Businesses moving from private AI prompts to team-wide agent workflows need shared context, visible agent identity, traceable work and clear human accountability. Atlassian is building products around that model, but its company claims do not prove that agents improve productivity or establish when, or whether, they will replace human workers.
What “multiplayer” AI work means
Using an AI assistant alone is a private interaction: one person supplies a prompt, receives an answer and decides what to do with it. A multiplayer workflow makes the work visible to a team. People and agents can contribute to the same work, see relevant context, hand off tasks and review what happened.

Atlassian president Anu Bharadwaj described this as “multiple agents and multiple humans working together” in a VentureBeat report published July 9, 2025. That is Bharadwaj’s framing, not a verified quotation from Atlassian CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes.

Atlassian’s Agentic Multiplayer Protocol sets out a product-design framework, not a neutral industry standard or a comparison of vendors. Its principles offer a practical checklist for organizations considering shared agent workflows.
#1 Best Overall
Shared context
An agent needs relevant information about the work and team to contribute usefully. For a shared workflow, the context should not exist only in one employee’s chat history; teammates need access to the information that informs decisions and handoffs.
Visible identity and presence
People should be able to tell which participants are humans and which are agents, and see where agents are involved. Clear identity helps teammates understand who or what acted, rather than treating an automated contribution as an invisible part of the system.
Real-time and asynchronous collaboration
Work cannot depend on every participant being available at once. Atlassian’s framework accounts for both synchronous collaboration and asynchronous work, so agents and people can contribute across handoffs and different schedules.

Traceability and governance
Organizations need to see what an agent did, in what workflow and under what controls. Atlassian says its approach is intended to make agent interactions auditable, traceable and governed. Those are product claims; businesses should assess how a particular system implements them and whether its controls fit their own requirements.
Rank #3
Human accountability and judgment
Automation does not remove the need to decide who is responsible for reviewing consequential work. Atlassian’s design page says, “Humans must play the pivotal role in transparency, accountability, and judgment.” That principle means teams should define which actions agents may take, which require human review and who is answerable for outcomes.
How Atlassian is applying the idea
In a company update dated May 6, 2026, Atlassian described Jira as a place to assign and track work for Rovo and third-party coding agents, with interactions designed to be auditable, traceable and governed. This is Atlassian’s account of its products, not independent evidence that all agent workflows deliver those properties or business benefits.
The same update reported a sevenfold increase in agentic automations across its customers over the preceding six months. Atlassian also said Rovo was used by 75% of Fortune 500 companies and more than 90% of its enterprise customers, and that it facilitated more than 14 million actions in the prior month. These are company-reported usage figures; the update passage does not provide methodology or independent validation, so they should not be read as industry-wide adoption or proof of results.

Does this establish that AI agents will not replace human workers?
No. The available sources describe a collaboration model in which people and agents work together, and Atlassian’s framework assigns humans a central role in accountability and judgment. They do not establish a forecast about employment or prove that agents will not replace workers. The headline’s specific claim about what Cannon-Brookes said could not be verified in the cited material, so it should not be presented as his confirmed position.
Best Value
For a business, the useful near-term question is narrower: which tasks can an agent perform, what evidence and permissions does it need, when must a person review its work, and who remains accountable? A multiplayer design makes those decisions visible in the workflow; it does not settle the broader question of how AI will affect jobs.
