You do not need to read every line of an AI-generated diff to catch the failures most likely to hurt a static site. Make the build inspect the finished dist/ directory, fail on known defects, run that check on every pull request, and make deployment depend on a passing result. A verifier catches dead links, duplicate headings, missing image text, stale migration markup, incomplete sitemaps and other mechanical regressions consistently. People should still decide whether an abstraction is sound, a feature belongs in the product, or an AI agent touched a high-risk area.
That division of labor is the practical answer to reviewing AI code at modern generation speed: machines handle repeatable evidence checks; humans spend their time on architecture, intent, scope and risk.

Why reading every AI diff stops scaling
The review-time mismatch
Othmane ETTAIB describes the mismatch plainly: “Claude produces a plausible two-hundred-line diff in roughly a minute.” Carefully checking those 200 lines, rather than skimming their shape, takes him 15 or 20 minutes. The generated code can look coherent while still introducing a broken route, an inaccessible image, invalid migration leftovers or a page omitted from the sitemap.
Trying to read faster does not solve that mismatch. ETTAIB’s conclusion is, “So I stopped trying to read faster.” He moved the repeatable questions into a build verifier. The verifier has no opinion about whether code is good; it answers narrower questions that can be tested against the artifact users will receive.

What a build can and cannot know
- Build-owned questions: Does every generated page have exactly one
<h1>? Does each image have analtattribute? Do internal links and redirect targets resolve in the built site? Are placeholder strings, Blogger remnants and missing sitemap entries present? Do standards-facing files have the required structure? - Human-owned questions: Is the feature worth shipping? Is an abstraction appropriate? Is the implementation understandable and maintainable? Did an agent modify a security-sensitive or otherwise high-blast-radius area?
Keeping those categories separate prevents a false promise that automation replaces engineering review. It also means the team can measure whether a check is deterministic and useful instead of adding rules simply because they sound thorough.
The verifier workflow: inspect what will actually ship
1. Build the site first
The verifier operates on the generated dist/ directory, not just source files. That matters because templates, routing and asset pipelines can change the final HTML in ways a source-only linter cannot see. A source file may look correct while the rendered output contains two headings, a stale link or missing metadata.
2. Run one command that builds and verifies
In this setup, npm run check runs the build and then the verifier. The underlying script is scripts/verify.mjs, a dependency-free Node.js program 169 lines long in ETTAIB’s example. A single command gives local development and continuous integration the same pass/fail contract.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
3. Make pull requests prove the contract
Every pull request runs the check. A contributor gets a failure before merge, while the generated files and the exact failing path remain available for correction. The check should inspect the same output that the deployment job will publish; otherwise a green source check can still hide a broken artifact.
4. Make deployment depend on the check
The deployment job depends on the verification job. If verification exits non-zero, the branch does not reach the internet. This dependency is the enforcement point: a warning in a developer’s terminal cannot protect production if a later job deploys regardless of the warning.
Rules that catch real static-site regressions
Each rule below came from a concrete failure rather than an attempt to write an exhaustive style guide. The useful question is whether the defect is mechanical, externally visible and cheap to test.

Exactly one <h1> per page
A generated template once emitted two <h1> elements. The verifier checks every built page and fails when the count is not exactly one. This is a structural invariant: it does not judge the wording of the heading, but it reliably catches a duplicated template slot or an accidental page-level heading.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →An alt attribute on every image
Lighthouse exposed accessibility regressions caused by images without alternative text. The check requires an alt attribute on every generated <img>. It catches omissions in content, components and templates before an accessibility audit has to find them. The rule does not decide whether the description is meaningful; a person still needs to review important wording, decorative-image handling and context.
Dead internal links
A renamed route once left a 404 behind. The verifier resolves site-absolute URLs against files actually present in dist/. Before checking, it strips URL fragments and query strings, then accepts either a matching file or an index.html directory target. That behavior models how a static host serves routes while avoiding false failures for an anchor such as /guide#install or a query-bearing URL whose path is valid.
Because the check runs after the build, it catches links introduced by generated navigation, content transforms and route renames. A link to /games/word-slot fails when neither that file nor its directory index exists.
Valid _redirects targets
Redirect rules can outlive the pages they point to. The verifier checks that every target named in _redirects resolves in the built output. This turns a redirect that silently leads to a deleted page into a merge-time error, while preserving intentional redirect behavior for pages that still exist.
No placeholder or filler copy
Draft text nearly reached production, so the build rejects known placeholder or filler copy. This rule is intentionally tied to phrases that have caused an incident in the project. Keep the list focused: a detector that flags ordinary editorial language will create noise and teach contributors to ignore the entire verifier.

No Blogger markup after migration
Migration leftovers resurfaced in generated output. A check for Blogger markup prevents those legacy fragments from returning unnoticed. It is particularly valuable when old content and new templates share a pipeline, because a clean source tree does not guarantee a clean artifact.
Every page listed in sitemap.xml
New pages were silently omitted from the sitemap. The verifier compares the built pages with sitemap entries and fails when a page is missing. This is an output-level completeness check: publishing a file is not enough if the site’s discovery file does not represent it.
Standards-facing files need deterministic checks too
IndexNow key validation
The verifier checks the IndexNow key file in two ways. First, the key must match the expected hexadecimal format. Second, the corresponding /<key>.txt file must exist at the site root. If that file is missing, crawlers silently ignore submissions, so a syntactically valid submission process can still have no effect. Checking both the value and its published location catches that mismatch in the build.
Field-by-field app-ads.txt parsing
app-ads.txt is parsed field by field against the IAB specification rather than treated as an opaque text file. A parser can reject malformed records and unexpected fields while leaving business decisions, such as which authorized sellers belong in the file, to the site owner.
These files illustrate why coverage should include external-facing artifacts, not only application syntax. Search crawlers, ad systems and redirecting hosts consume files that ordinary unit tests may never open.
Set a Lighthouse budget, then control its noise
The four thresholds
| Category | Required score | What a failure means |
|---|---|---|
| Performance | At least 90 | The generated page missed the minimum performance budget under the audit conditions. |
| Accessibility | 100 | An audited accessibility issue remains in the page. |
| Best practices | 100 | The page did not meet the configured best-practices checks. |
| SEO | 100 | The page did not meet the configured SEO checks. |
These are gates, not claims that every page is perfect in every environment. The performance threshold is especially sensitive to the machine running the audit. ETTAIB gives a concrete example of value: the budget caught a contrast failure in code-comment gray that might otherwise have shipped.

Retry only the noisy measurement
Shared CI runners make performance scores fluctuate. To avoid training people to click through random failures, the gate re-measures only when performance misses and stops after a retry limit. Accessibility, best-practices and SEO failures remain direct failures rather than receiving endless retries. A retry policy should be finite and visible; otherwise a genuinely slow page can be hidden behind repeated runs.
Design failures that lead directly to fixes
Put the page and defect in the message
An error such as ERROR /blog/index.html: dead internal link → /games/word-slot identifies the file, rule and offending value. It can be pasted into an AI coding session and usually points the next action toward the correct template or content entry.
By contrast, validation failed creates another conversation: Which file? Which rule? What value? The verifier should report enough context for a contributor to reproduce and repair the defect without reading its source code first.
Keep output stable
Deterministic ordering and consistent wording make failures easier to compare across local runs and CI. When several defects exist, report them in a predictable order or provide all actionable failures in one run. The goal is not a dramatic wall of diagnostics; it is a short path from failure to a verified fix.
A practical implementation sequence
Start with failures that have already cost time or reached users. Add one rule at a time, then wire the command into both pull requests and deployment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Inventory the artifact. Identify the built directory, generated HTML pages, redirect file, sitemap, IndexNow key file and
app-ads.txt. Confirm which files are truly published. - Write the smallest deterministic checks. Begin with one
<h1>, imagealt, internal-link resolution and redirect-target resolution. These produce clear pass/fail results from local files. - Add incident-driven content checks. Encode the placeholder phrases and Blogger markers that have actually appeared. Avoid a broad ban list that catches normal copy.
- Check completeness files. Compare generated pages with
sitemap.xml, validate the IndexNow key format and root file, then parseapp-ads.txtfields against its specification. - Add Lighthouse as a separate budget. Enforce performance at least 90, accessibility 100, best-practices 100 and SEO 100. Apply a finite retry only to a performance miss.
- Improve diagnostics. Include the exact path, rule and offending target in every error. Test a deliberate failure for each rule so the message is understandable before the first real incident.
- Enforce the dependency. Run
npm run checkon pull requests and require that successful check before deployment. Verify that a non-zero exit prevents publishing.
Do not start with an exhaustive rulebook
A long list of rules that almost never fire creates noise. Contributors begin treating the verifier as an obstacle, retrying until it turns green instead of investigating. ETTAIB recommends adding checks in response to observed failures: a second incident can justify a rule, while a hypothetical edge case may not.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Review each rule with four questions:
- Did this defect occur, or is there strong evidence it can occur in this pipeline?
- Can the build determine the answer without subjective judgment?
- Will a failure message identify a specific repair?
- Does the rule protect the published artifact rather than merely enforce a preferred source style?
Remove or redesign checks that produce frequent false positives. Reliability is part of correctness: a verifier that people routinely bypass is not a deployment control.
How to compare verification approaches
| Axis | Questions to ask | Strong implementation signal |
|---|---|---|
| Determinism | Does the same artifact produce a stable pass or fail? | Local and CI runs agree, with retries isolated to known noisy measurements. |
| Coverage | Does it inspect built output and external-facing files, not only source syntax? | It checks dist/, redirects, sitemap, IndexNow and app-ads.txt. |
| Signal-to-noise | Are rules tied to observed failures and actionable messages? | Each error names a page, defect and target or value. |
| Deployment enforcement | Can a failed branch still deploy? | The deployment job depends on the verification job. |
| Flake resistance | Are noisy measurements retried or isolated? | Only a performance miss is re-measured, with a retry limit. |
| Scope | Which decisions remain explicitly human-owned? | Architecture, feature value, code quality and high-risk areas stay with people. |
This comparison helps distinguish a real release gate from a collection of linters. A source-only syntax check may be fast but miss the broken route users will request. A comprehensive suite may cover more conditions but provide little value if it is flaky or impossible to interpret.
Failure scenarios and the fastest recovery path
A dead link appears after a route rename
- Read the reported page and target, for example
/blog/index.htmland/games/word-slot. - Check whether the destination was renamed, moved under an
index.htmldirectory, or intentionally removed. - Update the source link or restore the intended destination.
- Rebuild and run
npm run checklocally. - Confirm the pull-request check passes before deployment.
A page fails the single-heading rule
Inspect the generated page first, then trace both headings back to the template slots or content fields that produced them. Remove the duplicate at the source rather than adding an exception for that page. The invariant is about the final document, so the generated output is the right starting point.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Lighthouse performance fails intermittently
Allow the configured finite retry to run. If the retry passes, record that the first measurement was noisy; if the retry also fails, treat the page as a real budget miss. Do not add unlimited retries or weaken the accessibility, best-practices or SEO thresholds to mask a performance problem.
IndexNow submissions are ignored
Verify the hexadecimal key value and then verify that a file named exactly /<key>.txt is present at the published root. Both conditions must hold. A correct key in configuration does not compensate for a missing root file.
A migration marker returns
Search the built output for the Blogger markup flagged by the verifier. Trace it to the migrated content or transformation that reintroduced it, remove the source residue, rebuild and rerun the check. Do not silence the rule for one page unless that markup is intentionally required and the exception has a documented owner.
What still deserves human review
The build cannot decide whether code quality is good, whether an abstraction is appropriate, whether a feature is a bad idea or whether an agent touched a high-risk area. Those questions involve intent, context and consequences outside the generated files. A 169-line verifier can prove many structural properties without proving that a payment flow, authentication boundary or content strategy is sound.

The operating checklist
- Build the site into
dist/before validating. - Run
npm run checklocally and in pull requests. - Require the verification job to pass before deployment.
- Check exactly one
<h1>per page. - Require
alton every generated image. - Resolve site-absolute internal links after stripping fragments and query strings; accept file and
index.htmldirectory targets. - Resolve every
_redirectsdestination. - Reject known placeholder or filler copy and Blogger markup.
- Ensure every page appears in
sitemap.xml. - Validate the IndexNow hexadecimal key and matching root
/<key>.txtfile. - Parse
app-ads.txtfield by field against the IAB specification. - Enforce Lighthouse performance at least 90, accessibility 100, best-practices 100 and SEO 100.
- Retry only noisy performance misses, with a finite limit.
- Make every error name the exact page and defect.
- Keep architecture, feature scope, code quality and high-risk decisions with human reviewers.
The result is not an excuse to ignore AI-generated code. It is a more durable review system: the build catches the mechanical failures that repeat, while people apply judgment where a pass/fail rule cannot.
