If wireless Android Auto keeps disconnecting, leave Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Location Services available while you check compatibility, pairing and the car’s infotainment system. Those are the practical first steps—not blanket instructions to disable battery optimization or other phone protections. Use a wired connection as a comparison and fallback, not as a supposed repair for the wireless link.
First, confirm that wireless Android Auto is supported
Wireless Android Auto requires support from both the phone and the car or aftermarket head unit. Google’s current overview lists Android 11 or higher for wireless connections, but that requirement alone does not establish compatibility: check your exact phone and vehicle or receiver model against Google’s Android Auto overview and the vehicle or receiver maker’s information. A USB port by itself does not prove that a car supports Android Auto.

Pair with the features wireless setup needs
For initial wireless setup, Google advises keeping Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Location Services on. With the car parked and its infotainment system on, start the phone-pairing process from the car and complete the Bluetooth pairing on your phone. Android Auto should start within a few seconds; if it does not, follow the prompts on the car display and tap the Android Auto icon if it appears.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Do not turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth as a general attempt to improve a wireless session. Google’s setup guidance calls for these features during wireless setup, and the official troubleshooting guidance does not establish that switching them off fixes disconnections.

Bluetooth pairs, but Android Auto does not appear
- Keep the car parked and the infotainment system on while setup finishes.
- Follow any prompts on the car display. If the Android Auto icon is shown, tap it.
- If Android Auto still does not appear, check the car’s infotainment settings to confirm Android Auto is enabled, then restart the infotainment system.
Android Auto is missing or failing across connections
Start with the receiver, not phone-wide power settings: make sure Android Auto is enabled in the infotainment system and restart it. If you use an aftermarket receiver, check its manufacturer’s support site for firmware that applies to your exact model. Do not install firmware intended for another receiver.
The problem happens with a second car
Remove the remembered-car entries and pair the intended car again. In Android Auto settings, look for Previously connected cars and forget the relevant car before retrying. This removes saved-car information; menu wording or location may vary by Android release.

Wireless fails, but you can test a cable
Try wired Android Auto with a known-good data cable. Google recommends a high-quality cable shorter than 1 metre (3 feet), without a USB hub or extension; try the cable supplied with the phone or one that meets USB-IF standards. A cable that works consistently while wireless does not helps narrow the symptom to the wireless connection path, but it does not identify a specific failed component or repair wireless Android Auto.
Use the wired and wireless results to decide what to report
| What you observe | What it tells you | Useful next step |
|---|---|---|
| Both wired and wireless fail | The fault is not isolated to wireless by this comparison. | Recheck compatibility and the car’s Android Auto setting, then restart the infotainment system. |
| Wired works consistently; wireless fails | The problem appears specific to the wireless connection path, but this does not prove which component is at fault. | Contact the phone or vehicle/head-unit maker with the phone model, Android version, car or receiver model, and their software versions. |
| Wireless setup works in one car but not another | The issue may involve the second car’s compatibility, settings or remembered pairing. | Verify support for that exact car, check its Android Auto setting, and forget and re-pair it if appropriate. |
Why not disable battery optimization or other phone features?
There is no universal official instruction in the cited Google guidance to turn off battery optimization, adaptive connectivity, Wi-Fi scanning, Location Services, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth as a general reliability fix. Power and connectivity controls also vary by phone maker and Android version. Avoid changing broad protections as a first step; for a suspected device-specific issue, consult the phone maker’s current guidance for your exact model and Android version.
