Choose the duration you want from the dropdown.
Microsoft describes this dropdown as the setting for how long notifications are displayed. Its documentation does not list the available duration choices, so use the options shown on your Windows 11 device rather than relying on a list that may not match your build. See Microsoft’s Visual effects guidance.
Is the timeout in System > Notifications?
No. Settings > System > Notifications controls whether notifications are enabled and lets you manage notification behavior by app, including banners, Notification Center visibility, and sounds. The banner-duration dropdown is under Accessibility > Visual effects. Microsoft’s Windows notifications guidance describes these controls separately.
Find a notification after its banner disappears
When a banner goes away, the notification may still be available in Notification Center. Open it by selecting the clock or notification bell on the taskbar, or press Windows key + N. Notification Center is useful for catching up on alerts; changing the timeout controls how long a banner stays on screen.
How Do Not Disturb and Focus differ from banner duration
Do Not Disturb silences notifications, with selected alarms, reminders, or chosen apps still able to show banners. Focus sessions turn on Do Not Disturb by default and can hide taskbar badges and flashing while active. Neither is the duration setting: use the Accessibility visual-effects dropdown to change how long a displayed banner remains visible. Details are in Microsoft’s notifications and Do Not Disturb documentation.
