Behance calls a project thumbnail a cover image. To make one for a website roundup, choose a representative website image, prepare it as a JPEG or PNG at least 808 × 632 pixels, then add it to the project and adjust the crop using Behance’s Edit Cover Image control. Check the result at the compact 202 × 158 pixel display size before publishing.
What a Behance thumbnail is—and what it needs to show
A Behance cover image is a preview of the work inside a project, meant to help viewers decide whether to open it. For a portfolio roundup, treat each cover as a quick visual cue: it might show a site’s distinctive interface, its overall visual identity, or the roundup’s theme. These are design choices, not official Behance rules.

For a collection of several websites, use a consistent visual approach across entries—such as similar crop logic, margins, or title treatment—while keeping each site recognizable. A single strong representative image is usually clearer than a crowded collage when the cover is viewed small.
Choose an image and prepare it to Behance’s specifications
Cover dimensions and file size
Behance says covers display at 202 × 158 pixels and recommends uploading an image at least 808 × 632 pixels for a better experience on retina displays. The crop control lets you adjust how the image fits the cover. These cover-specific dimensions are separate from guidance for images within the project.

For general project imagery, Behance recommends JPEG or PNG images 2800 pixels wide or smaller and under 10 MB; it does not accept images larger than 50 MB. Format and color
- Use JPEG or PNG. Behance recommends JPEG and also accepts PNG for images.
- Do not use GIF for a project cover. Behance lists GIF for project content, not covers.
- Use RGB when color fidelity matters. Behance accepts CMYK but converts it for display, which can change colors.
- Convert PDF pages to images. Behance does not support PDF uploads as project images.
Pick a crop that works as a small preview
Because the cover is displayed at 202 × 158 pixels, inspect your image at that approximate size. Make sure its focal point remains legible after cropping; fine interface details and small text may disappear. This is practical composition advice based on the display dimensions, not a Behance guarantee or design requirement.

Add and crop the cover in Behance
- Add the website screenshots or other relevant imagery to your project. You can use an image already included in the project, or add a separate image specifically for the cover.
- When setting up project details, choose Edit Cover Image.
- Select a project image or add another image, then adjust the crop to frame the intended subject.
- Continue, then review the cover at the compact preview size. Change the source image or crop if the key visual is cut off or too small to read.
- Complete the required project details before publishing: a cover image, a project title, and at least one creative field. Behance’s instructions are in its project publishing guide.
Keep a roundup consistent and easy to browse
For multiple entries, settle on a repeatable system before exporting all the covers. You might use a consistent aspect ratio, similar margins, and comparable framing, then adapt each crop to preserve the website’s most recognizable feature. Preview each one individually at the displayed size: consistency should not come at the cost of making the sites indistinguishable.

Do not confuse video thumbnails with project covers
A project cover is not the same as a video thumbnail. Behance says an uploaded video uses its middle frame automatically, while a Vimeo embed permits a chosen poster image. If a roundup entry includes video, review the separate audio and video upload guidance rather than assuming the project cover controls the video preview.
