Prerequisites Before You Change Settings

If you want a reliable “force fullscreen” flag, tell me your exact platform and how you launch VRChat (Steam, Standalone, Oculus Link/Air Link, etc.). VRChat flags aren’t always consistent across builds.

Method 4: If You’re Using a Quest via Link/Air Link
When you play VRChat on a Meta Quest using Link or Air Link, fullscreen on the PC monitor is still just a desktop mirror setting. The headset display doesn’t follow the same fullscreen toggle.
What you should do instead:
- Start your VR session normally through the VR runtime you’re using (commonly SteamVR or OpenXR via your Quest connection).
- In VRChat, set your Desktop output and window mode to match your comfort, but focus on VR performance and resolution in VR.
- Check headset resolution/renderer settings inside your VR runtime (SteamVR/OpenXR) rather than chasing desktop fullscreen.
If your goal is “full-screen mirror on the monitor,” you can still use Method 1 to set VRChat to fullscreen on desktop. Just don’t expect it to affect what’s shown inside the headset.
Method 5: Fix Blurry Upscaling or Cropped Fullscreen on PC
Full screen can look worse if VRChat is rendering at a non-native resolution or if Windows/GPU scaling applies a different filter than you expect. You’ll usually fix this by matching resolution and scaling behavior.

- Close VRChat fully (make sure it’s not still running).
- Restart VRChat.

Alt-tab focus and “exclusive vs borderless”

In VR, the player experience is controlled by the VR runtime (SteamVR/OpenXR/Meta Link). Desktop fullscreen only affects what the spectator window shows on your monitor.
If your issue is “VR looks cut off” or “headset view is wrong,” your fix is almost always in your VR runtime settings (render resolution, eye buffer scaling, and compositor reprojection), not VRChat fullscreen.
Compatibility Notes for Multi-Monitor Setups
Multi-monitor setups can prevent consistent fullscreen placement. Windows may restore a window to a previous monitor, or your monitor arrangement can change after sleep/hibernate.

Is VRChat fullscreen supposed to be instant?
Most of the time yes. If it stalls for a second, VRChat may be reinitializing the render pipeline due to a resolution change. Set resolution to native first, then toggle fullscreen.
