Adjust Kindle before changing hardware
Amazon documents Kindle controls for font type, size and boldness, brightness, margins, line spacing, and text and background presentation. The precise controls or their location can vary by Kindle app version, so look in the reading view’s settings rather than relying on a fixed menu path. Make text easier to follow
Increase font size or boldness if the text feels small or faint. Wider line spacing and margins can also make lines easier to track. Adjust one setting at a time and read a few pages before deciding whether it helps; a larger font may mean more page turns, while wider spacing can reduce how much text fits on screen.
Set brightness for the room
Use Kindle’s brightness control to suit the lighting around you. There is no single brightness level established as best for every reader or room. If the screen seems uncomfortably bright, try lowering it; in a bright room, a brighter screen may be easier to see. Judge by your own comfort rather than targeting a prescribed number.

Compare the display themes
Amazon says Kindle on the new Alexa Tablet lineup offers three display themes: warmer natural color, a softened paper tone, and grayscale. Try each under the lighting where you normally read. Preferences differ, so none should be treated as the universally best choice.
Consider reflections separately from Kindle settings
The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is offered with a standard display or an optional Nanomatte display. Amazon describes Nanomatte as a precision-etched anti-glare surface intended to reduce reflections while retaining detail and color accuracy. That is the manufacturer’s product description, not an independent comparison or a guarantee that the screen will resolve an individual reader’s discomfort. Amazon’s October 9, 2026 announcement lists the two display options.

Amazon announced US launch prices of $499.99 for the standard configuration and $549.99 for Nanomatte. Those are launch prices from October 9, 2026; check Amazon’s current listing for present pricing and availability. The 12 Pro is announced with a 12-inch, 280-PPI, 120Hz display and a 3:2 aspect ratio. The specifications do not establish an eye-health benefit.

Use accessibility tools only after checking this Android tablet’s menus
Amazon’s published system accessibility instructions for Fire tablets describe options such as Font Size, Screen Magnifier, High Contrast Text, Color Correction, and Color Inversion. For Fire OS 5 and later, the documented path is Settings > Accessibility; the magnifier instructions include triple-tap to zoom, two-finger panning, and pinching to change magnification. Amazon’s Fire tablet accessibility help documents those controls.

The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro runs Android, according to Amazon, so those Fire OS menus and gestures are not verified instructions for this model. Look in the tablet’s own Settings for accessibility options and follow its on-screen help. Kindle also documents a Reading Ruler for focus and following lines, but availability and location can differ between app versions.
For listening, check Assistive Reader compatibility
Amazon says Kindle Assistive Reader can read Kindle books aloud and offers controls for pausing and resuming, navigating by chapter or time, and adjusting reading speed. Its support page explicitly says Assistive Reader is not available on Alexa+. Because the 12 Pro’s Alexa+ compatibility is not established by the cited support information, do not assume this reading feature will work on it. Check the current app and device support details before relying on read-aloud. Amazon’s Kindle Assistive Reader help describes the feature and its limitation.

What these settings can—and cannot—establish
Font, spacing, brightness, themes, and glare handling let you tailor how reading looks on the screen. Amazon’s product announcement and help pages do not establish that any particular setting prevents eye strain, improves eye health, or changes sleep outcomes. Treat the adjustments as ways to find a more comfortable reading presentation, not as medical advice or a health guarantee.
