How to Make an Origins SMP Server in Minecraft 1.19.2

A complete Minecraft Java 1.19.2 guide to building an Origins SMP server with Fabric, Origins 1.7.1, matching client mods, optional Origins OG packs, datapacks and remote-host deployment.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To make an Origins SMP server in Minecraft 1.19.2, build a Fabric server on Java Edition 1.19.2, install Fabric API and Origins 1.7.1, and give every player the identical Minecraft, Fabric, API, Origins and pack-mod versions. Start the server with Fabric, verify that the origin-selection screen works, then add optional origins through datapacks.

The important rule is version parity. A 1.19.3 or 1.19.4 Origins file, a different Fabric setup, or a missing client-side mod can prevent players from joining. The procedure below keeps the stack pinned and gives you a recoverable way to add custom content.

What you need before you start

This guide applies to Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2. Bedrock Edition is not the target platform. You need access to the Minecraft launcher, a Java runtime capable of starting the Fabric server, and a computer or host where the server files can remain online.

  • A Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2 installation for the server operator and every player.
  • A Fabric installation for Minecraft 1.19.2.
  • Fabric API built for the same Minecraft/Fabric environment.
  • Origins 1.7.1, the project release listed for Minecraft 1.19.2 on Fabric.
  • File access to the server directory and permission to copy files into its mods folder.
  • A backup location for the world before you change mods or datapacks.

Origins is designed around asymmetric abilities: its documentation describes a mod in which each player chooses an Origin that grants benefits and drawbacks. That choice is made after the mod is working; it is not a substitute for installing the server and client files correctly.

Pin the exact 1.19.2 mod stack

Write the versions down before downloading anything. Origins 1.7.1 is the release listed for Minecraft 1.19.2 in the Origins project’s 2022 release listing. Fabric Loader and Fabric API are required by the project. Do not substitute a file marked for Minecraft 1.19.3 or 1.19.4 simply because its filename looks newer.

Component Version or selection Purpose
Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2 The game version used by the server and all clients
Fabric Loader Loader for Minecraft 1.19.2 Starts the Fabric server and Fabric client
Fabric API Build matching Minecraft 1.19.2 and the selected Fabric setup Required library for Origins and other Fabric mods
Origins 1.7.1 for Minecraft 1.19.2 Adds Origins, powers and origin selection
Optional curated pack Origins OG – V13, a 1.19.2 Fabric release Creator-inspired baseline with a larger, predefined mod set

The Origins SMP: Fabric project also lists Origins OG – V6 as a 1.19.2 Fabric release. The project was updated on March 22, 2025, while the V13 release listing is dated 2023. Those dates identify the listings; they do not make a newer Minecraft version compatible with this 1.19.2 server.

Choose a hand-built server or a curated pack

Hand-built installation

A hand-built server contains the minimum stack: Minecraft 1.19.2, Fabric for 1.19.2, Fabric API, Origins 1.7.1 and any datapacks or carefully selected add-ons you approve. This approach makes it easier to audit every jar, remove an offending mod and explain the setup to players. It also puts responsibility for checking dependencies and keeping client installations synchronized on the administrator.

Origins SMP pack

The Origins SMP: Fabric project offers creator-inspired releases, including Origins OG – V13 for 1.19.2. A pack is convenient when everyone wants the same baseline, powers and supporting mods. Download the 1.19.2 release and copy its complete, matching server-side mod set; do not combine a few pack jars with unrelated versions from another release.

Decision point Hand-built stack Origins OG-style pack
Version control You select and record each 1.19.2 component Use the pack’s complete 1.19.2 release
Mod set Minimal set is easier to audit Predefined set is faster for a creator-style baseline
Updates Each update can be tested independently Update the pack as a matched release rather than individual jars
Customization Add datapacks and approved mods one at a time Keep the pack baseline, then add tested datapacks
Control Maximum control over included content Less assembly work, but more dependence on the pack’s selection

Neither approach has a universal player-capacity or RAM guarantee. The Fabric documentation’s 2 GB command example is an invocation example, not a measured Origins requirement.

Install the Fabric 1.19.2 server

  1. Create a clean server directory. Use a folder dedicated to this world so that old jars, logs and saves from another Minecraft version cannot be mixed into it.
  2. Run the Fabric server installer. Select Minecraft 1.19.2 and the server option. Let the installer generate the Fabric launcher and supporting files in the new directory.
  3. Start the generated launcher once. This first run creates the standard server files, including the world directory and eula.txt. It may stop until the EULA is accepted.
  4. Review and accept the EULA. Open eula.txt, read the license, and change the acceptance setting only if you agree to it. Save the file.
  5. Stop the server before editing it. Do not copy mods into a running directory. A clean stop reduces the chance of a partially written world or an unreadable configuration file.

Fabric’s documented launch pattern is:

java -Xmx2G -jar <fabric server launcher jar file name> nogui

Replace the angle-bracket placeholder with the actual launcher filename generated in your directory. The -Xmx2G option sets a 2 GB maximum heap for that invocation; it is an example supplied by Fabric, not a promise that every Origins world needs exactly 2 GB. If your host uses a control panel, enter the equivalent Java command in its startup settings and keep the same launcher jar.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Install Origins and the required server mods

  1. Locate the server’s mods directory. If the first Fabric run did not create it, create a folder named exactly mods beside the launcher and server files.
  2. Copy Fabric API into mods. Use the build intended for Minecraft 1.19.2 and your Fabric environment.
  3. Copy Origins 1.7.1 into mods. Keep the original jar filename unless your host requires a naming convention; changing a filename does not change its compatibility.
  4. Add pack mods only when using a pack. For Origins OG – V13 or another 1.19.2 release, copy the complete matching server-side set. Do not take individual jars from V13, V6 and unrelated releases and assume they form a supported combination.
  5. Check for duplicate versions. Remove older copies of Fabric API, Origins or a pack mod from the same folder. Two versions of one mod can produce confusing loader errors.

Keep a text inventory of the jars and their versions. This list becomes the reference you send to players and the checklist you use when restoring a backup.

Make every player’s client match

Players need a Fabric client, not an unmodified vanilla profile. Each player should create a Minecraft 1.19.2 installation and select the same Fabric loader family used by the server. Their mods folder must contain the same Fabric API, Origins 1.7.1 and every extra mod required by the chosen pack.

  1. Install or select Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2 in the launcher.
  2. Install Fabric for 1.19.2 and launch that profile once to create the client’s folders.
  3. Copy the exact client-required jars into the client mods directory.
  4. If you use a curated pack, distribute the pack’s 1.19.2 client set as a single checklist or modpack archive so nobody accidentally omits a dependency.
  5. Remove duplicate or newer Origins and Fabric API jars before connecting.

The server and client do not need identical screenshots, key bindings or video settings, but their game version, Fabric environment, required libraries, Origins version and selected gameplay mods do need to match. A client missing a required mod, or using another Minecraft or Fabric version, can be rejected during the connection handshake.

Start the world and perform a controlled test

  1. From the server directory, run the Fabric command with the real launcher filename and wait for the console to finish loading.
  2. Connect from the same machine or local network first. Testing locally separates a mod-installation problem from a router or firewall problem.
  3. Confirm that the Origins selection screen appears for a new player. Select an Origin and inspect its listed powers and drawbacks.
  4. Join with a second client using the same mod inventory. Verify that both players can enter the world and that the second player can make an Origin selection.
  5. Stop the server cleanly, make a world backup, and only then open access to the wider group.

Origins documentation establishes the selection and power mechanics. It does not publish a universal performance benchmark, maximum player count or one-size-fits-all memory requirement, so treat those as properties to measure on your own hardware rather than promises attached to the mod.

Configure origins, rules and datapacks

Datapacks are the supported way to add origins or configure powers without replacing the core Origins jar. An Origins datapack can define additional origin files, modify power behavior or change which choices are presented to players.

Add a datapack safely

  1. Download or create a datapack that explicitly targets Minecraft 1.19.2 and your Origins release.
  2. Back up the world while the server is stopped.
  3. Place the datapack in that world’s datapacks directory, preserving the pack’s internal folder structure.
  4. Start the server and use the datapack reload mechanism appropriate to the pack, or restart if its instructions require a restart.
  5. Test the new origin in a disposable world or with a test player before allowing it on the live SMP.
  6. Write down which origins are permitted, especially if your server has a role-play rule set or balance restrictions.

Keep a copy of the previous datapack set. If a new power behaves incorrectly, stop the server, restore the backup and remove the last change instead of repeatedly editing a live save.

Plan origin rules before inviting players

  • Decide whether players may choose any installed origin or only a curated list.
  • Explain benefits and drawbacks before the first session so a player does not select an ability that conflicts with your SMP rules.
  • Use a test account to check movement, health, inventory and interaction powers that affect shared builds.
  • Record the datapack filenames and versions alongside the server mod inventory.

Deploy the server to a remote host

For a remote machine, upload the complete Fabric installation rather than only the Origins jar. Fabric’s installation guidance calls out the launcher jar, server files and libraries for remote deployment.

  • fabric-server-launcher.jar (use the actual generated launcher filename if it differs).
  • server.properties.
  • server.jar.
  • The libraries folder and its contents.
  • The server’s mods folder with the exact Fabric API, Origins and pack jars.
  • The world files and any approved datapacks.

Set the host’s startup command to the Fabric launcher, not directly to a vanilla server jar. Check the host’s working directory so relative paths to libraries, mods and the world resolve correctly. After the first remote start, connect with one fully matched client before distributing the address to everyone.

Troubleshoot the failures you are most likely to see

The server stops during startup

Read the first loader error rather than the final cascade of messages. Confirm that the launcher is Fabric, that Minecraft is 1.19.2, and that Fabric API and Origins are present in the server’s mods folder. Remove duplicate jars and any file marked for another Minecraft version. If you installed a pack, restore the pack’s complete 1.19.2 set instead of replacing one jar with a release from a different pack version.

A player is refused during connection

Compare the player’s Minecraft version, Fabric loader profile, Fabric API, Origins jar and extra pack mods against the server inventory. A missing required mod or a different version can fail the handshake even when the player can launch the game offline. Have the player close the launcher, remove duplicate jars and relaunch the 1.19.2 Fabric profile.

The Origins selection screen does not appear

First verify that the server actually loaded Origins 1.7.1 and that the client is using the same Origins version. Test with a newly created player in a fresh world. If the screen still does not appear, temporarily remove optional datapacks and pack additions, restart, and test the minimal Fabric API plus Origins stack. Reintroduce one datapack at a time after the base selection works.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A datapack has no effect

Check that it is inside the correct world’s datapacks directory, that its internal structure is intact, and that it targets Minecraft 1.19.2 and your Origins release. Reload or restart as required by the datapack, then test with a new player or a newly selected origin. Restore the pre-change backup if the world reports errors.

The remote server launches but cannot be joined

Confirm that the host started fabric-server-launcher.jar from the directory containing server.jar, libraries, mods and server.properties. Test from the host or its local network first. If local access works but outside access does not, investigate the host’s network and firewall settings separately from the mod installation.

Back up before every content change

Stop the server, copy the world, and preserve the current mod and datapack inventory before updating anything. Keep at least one backup from the last known-good startup. This makes it possible to roll back a broken power, an incompatible datapack or an accidental world edit without guessing which file changed.

Stage updates with a test copy

Copy the world backup to a separate test directory and try the new mod or datapack there first. Test origin selection, existing players, shared storage and any powers that affect redstone or movement. Only promote the tested set to the live server after every client can reproduce the same startup result.

What this setup can and cannot promise

The documented stack establishes compatibility targets and installation steps, not a guaranteed frame rate, player capacity or RAM figure. Hardware, world size, view distance, datapacks and the number of concurrent players all affect performance. The 2 GB value in Fabric’s sample launch command should therefore be treated as a starting example for the command syntax, not as a measured minimum or maximum for Origins.

If you keep Minecraft 1.19.2, Fabric, Fabric API, Origins 1.7.1 and every optional mod aligned on both sides, a hand-built server is straightforward to audit. If your group wants a creator-inspired baseline with less assembly, the 1.19.2 Origins OG release provides a matched starting point; retain its complete mod set and do not mix releases.
