In Playwright, set deviceScaleFactor: 2 on the browser context, set the viewport in CSS pixels, navigate to the page, then call page.screenshot(). Use fullPage: true separately if the image should include the entire scrollable page. The device scale factor controls pixel density; it does not mean you should double the viewport dimensions.
Set up a 2× screenshot with Playwright
Configure the scale factor when creating the browser context, before opening or navigating the page. This example captures the visible viewport at a 1280 × 800 CSS-pixel viewport:

const context = await browser.newContext({
viewport: { width: 1280, height: 800 },
deviceScaleFactor: 2,
});
const page = await context.newPage();
await page.goto(url);
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png' });
Playwright documents deviceScaleFactor as a browser-context option for emulating device scale. See the Playwright emulation guide and Page API documentation.

- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
fullPage changes the capture area, not the device scale. Choose the page extent and pixel scale as separate settings.
Understand viewport size and output pixels
The viewport width and height are CSS pixels. With a 1280 × 800 CSS-pixel viewport and a 2× device scale factor, a viewport screenshot is expected to be roughly 2560 × 1600 image pixels. The exact output can depend on the capture area and browser behavior.

Playwright’s screenshot API distinguishes CSS-pixel and device-pixel output with its scale option: device scaling produces one output pixel per device pixel. A high-DPI screenshot can therefore be twice as large or more. The context’s deviceScaleFactor and the screenshot’s capture area answer different questions: how densely to render, and how much of the page to include.

Wait for the page state your agent needs
A completed navigation does not guarantee that every client-rendered component, lazy image, animation, or consent screen is ready. Select a wait condition that matches the target site before taking the screenshot. For example, wait for a known element when the page renders asynchronously:

await page.goto(url, { waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded' });
await page.waitForSelector('.page-content');
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png' });
Replace .page-content with a selector that indicates the content your agent requires. Puppeteer’s official screenshot guide also demonstrates navigation with a waitUntil option; navigation waits should be chosen for the page rather than treated as proof that all dynamic content is ready: Puppeteer screenshot guide.
Choose the browser automation library available to the agent
If the agent already runs Playwright, the context-level setting above is a direct way to request 2× device scale. An agent built around another library must expose an equivalent device-scale configuration as well as the required viewport and capture-area options. The cited Puppeteer screenshot workflow covers navigation and capturing, but does not establish an equivalent device-scale setting here; check the API for the installed version rather than assuming the same option name works.

The exact agent framework is not specified, so the example is browser-automation code, not a framework-specific adapter. Confirm that the agent runtime can create or configure a browser context before navigation.

- The image is not twice as wide and tall: Confirm
deviceScaleFactor: 2is on the context used by this page, and that the screenshot is taken from that context. Keep viewport dimensions in CSS pixels; do not double them to request 2× density. - The image only shows the visible region: Add
fullPage: truewhen the entire scrollable page is wanted. Without it, the screenshot call captures the current viewport. - Content is missing or unfinished: Wait for a page-specific selector or other readiness condition before capture. A navigation event alone may not cover client-side rendering, lazy-loaded images, or delayed UI.
- The agent cannot set device scale: Check whether its browser integration permits context-level configuration. If it does not, use an automation runtime that exposes that setting or use a screenshot service with the required output options.
Or skip the browser setup

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a 2× device scale factor change the CSS viewport size?
No. It changes device-pixel rendering; set the viewport dimensions in CSS pixels.
Can I use full-page capture and 2× scaling together?
Yes. Set the context’s device scale factor and pass fullPage: true to the screenshot call.
