To repeat prerecorded videos in a fixed order during a YouTube 24/7 live stream, set the order and loop behavior in the system that plays out the videos, then send its continuous feed to YouTube Live. YouTube’s playlist Loop button repeats playback for a viewer; it does not turn a playlist into a live broadcast.
Why YouTube’s playlist Loop button is not enough
YouTube Help says viewers can loop a video or playlist while watching. That is a playback control, not a broadcast automation feature. A live stream is an incoming video feed: an encoder sends video to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key. The playlist order and repeat behavior therefore need to be handled by the playout system or a suitable hosted service, not by the viewer’s Loop button. YouTube’s playlist-loop instructions and encoder setup guidance describe these as separate functions.

Choose where the ordered playlist will run
Run playout locally
A software or hardware encoder can send a feed to YouTube; the system supplying that feed must also play the videos in the intended order and repeat them. This route leaves the local computer, playout software, and internet connection as part of the operation. YouTube does not prescribe a particular encoder or playlist-loop configuration in its general setup guide, so confirm that the software you choose supports a fixed sequence, repeat behavior, and recovery when playback or the connection stops.

A hosted 24/7 prerecorded-video service runs playout in the cloud rather than relying on a computer at home. YouTube’s encoder guide names Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos, but that mention does not establish its current fixed-order controls, plan limits, or terms. Verify those details with the provider before relying on it.

Set up the YouTube Live connection
- Check channel eligibility early. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time activation of live streaming may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until launch day. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Create or schedule the live stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. In the Stream tab, obtain the stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Configure the playout encoder. Enter the YouTube stream URL and key in the encoder or hosted service’s stream settings. Configure the video playlist in that system—not in the YouTube viewer’s playlist controls.
- Preview before making the stream public. Start sending the feed, wait for it to appear in Live Control Room, and check that the expected video and audio arrive before starting the broadcast. YouTube recommends previewing and monitoring stream audio and video quality.
- Monitor the run. Confirm the playout system advances through items in order, returns to the first item after the last, and resumes appropriately if an item ends or the connection drops. Those behaviors depend on the selected system; YouTube’s ingest documentation does not configure them for you.
Use YouTube-compatible encoder settings
YouTube’s live encoder settings list H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, with AAC or MP3 audio. The same guidance recommends constant bitrate encoding, a 2-second keyframe interval, and no more than 4 seconds between keyframes. It recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. The appropriate bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use YouTube’s current live encoder settings rather than relying on a copied bitrate table that may become outdated.
These settings govern the feed YouTube receives; they do not determine playlist order or looping. If using a hosted service, check that its output settings are compatible with YouTube and that it sends the quality you intend.

Plan for the stream archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A broadcast intended to run 24/7 should not be treated as one guaranteed uninterrupted archive. Consider the duration and archive needs of the specific setup, and check YouTube’s current guidance before depending on a recording of the full run. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Troubleshooting a playlist that will not repeat as intended
- The viewer sees a playlist, not a live broadcast: The Loop button applies to playback. Configure the sequence in a playout system and send its output to YouTube Live.
- No preview appears in Live Control Room: Check that the encoder is running and that the correct stream URL and key are entered. Confirm channel live access is active; first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- The wrong video appears or items play out of order: Check the playlist order in the playout system. Do not assume YouTube’s playlist page controls the live feed.
- The stream stops after an item or a connection ends: Review the playout system’s repeat and recovery settings. The behavior is specific to that system; YouTube’s general encoder instructions do not supply those controls.
- Video or audio is missing or unstable: Check the incoming preview, codec and audio format, constant bitrate configuration, keyframe interval, and bitrate against YouTube’s current encoder settings. Monitor the live feed as YouTube recommends.
- You expect one archive for the entire day: YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed single archive for a 24/7 broadcast.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Only stream videos and audio you have the rights to use for a live broadcast. Uploading a recording or placing it in a playlist does not itself grant streaming rights. Check the licenses and permissions for every item, including music, visuals, and any third-party material, and review YouTube’s policies before going live. A continuous prerecorded stream also does not guarantee monetization or audience growth; assess the channel’s content and eligibility under YouTube’s current rules.
