You can keep a rights-cleared Hindi news playlist on YouTube Live by running an encoder on an Azure virtual machine (VM), connecting it to a YouTube Live event with that event’s stream URL and stream key, and monitoring both the encoder and YouTube’s stream health. Before starting, confirm you have permission to retransmit every video, verify that your channel is eligible for live streaming, and estimate the full Azure bill—not just the VM’s compute cost.
Before you start: rights and channel eligibility
Confirm permission to retransmit every video
Use only news videos you own or have explicit permission to retransmit. Publicly viewable does not mean licensed for rebroadcast. YouTube’s live-stream terms require creators to have the necessary rights for live content and its archive, including applicable music and other licensing rights. The relevant territory and license depend on your particular playlist, so confirm them with the rights holder; this guide cannot determine whether a specific broadcast is authorized.

Check that the channel can go live
YouTube requires the channel to be verified and not to have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast. YouTube’s encoder-based streaming documentation lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge, but it does not establish a particular OBS playlist configuration; confirm that the encoder you choose can repeat your playlist and recover after an interruption.

- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live event for the playlist. Set the event details and visibility appropriate to your channel and audience.
- Choose encoder-based streaming. Retrieve the event’s stream URL and stream key from the Live Control Room. The URL tells the encoder where to send video; the key associates the incoming feed with your event.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password. Enter it only in the encoder you control, do not publish it or include it in screenshots, and reset it if you think it has been exposed.
- Configure the encoder’s output. Use the resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval supported by your source files and the current YouTube guidance for the chosen output. The correct values depend on the actual video and encoder configuration; do not assume a single bitrate fits every playlist. If the encoder offers a stream-health preview, check it before making the event public.
Run the playlist from an Azure VM
Provision a VM for the workload
Create an Azure virtual machine in the region and with the operating system and size that suit your encoder. Install the encoder on the VM, place the rights-cleared video files where it can read them, and configure the playlist to repeat. The VM must remain running, and its outbound connection must remain available, for the encoder to keep sending the stream. A VM that is up does not guarantee that the encoder or connection is healthy.

Connect the encoder and test before launch
- Open the encoder on the VM and set its stream destination to the YouTube stream URL.
- Enter the event’s stream key in the encoder’s stream-key field, then save the configuration securely.
- Load the playlist, enable repeat or loop using the encoder’s available controls, and confirm that the order and transitions are what you intend. Test this behavior before relying on it for an extended broadcast.
- Start the encoder and check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream-health indicators. Confirm that video and audio are present and that the intended event is receiving the feed.
- Keep an eye on the encoder, VM, outbound connectivity, and YouTube stream health during the broadcast. Rehearse an encoder restart and your recovery procedure before the scheduled start.
Plan upload capacity, monitoring, and recovery
YouTube recommends upload capacity with 20% headroom above the combined primary and backup bitrates. Apply that recommendation to the stream’s actual configured bitrates and check the VM’s outbound network path; a healthy VM can still lose its stream if the encoder stops or connectivity fails. Test the preview and monitor quality and stream health throughout the broadcast rather than assuming that a successful initial connection will last all day.
- If the feed stops: Check whether the encoder is still running, whether the VM has connectivity, and whether YouTube reports a stream-health problem. Restart the encoder only after identifying the likely failure and confirming that it reconnects to the intended event.
- If the VM is intentionally idle: Azure’s stopped and deallocated states differ for compute billing. Deallocation stops VM compute charges, but disks and other resources can continue to incur charges.
Understand archives and Azure costs
Do not assume a long broadcast will be archived
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If an archive is important, plan events shorter than 12 hours or arrange a local recording path; do not assume a longer uninterrupted broadcast will be archived in the same way.

Estimate the whole Azure bill
Your total depends on the VM’s region, size, operating system, runtime, storage, and traffic, along with any monitoring or supporting resources. Compute is only one component: storage, virtual networking, bandwidth, and monitoring may also contribute. Use the Azure pricing calculator for your configuration and set Cost Management budgets or alerts. Do not treat an hourly compute estimate as the full cost of keeping the broadcast running.
