To make a basic PNGTuber avatar in PngTuber Maker, prepare at least two PNG images showing different expressions, upload them, select a microphone, adjust the sound threshold, and test the expression switch. What you need before you start
- At least two PNG images of the same avatar with different expressions. YiMeta’s Steam listing does not specify required dimensions, resolution, file size, canvas alignment, or transparency settings.
- A microphone for sound detection and threshold setup.
- A Windows PC that meets the listed minimum requirements: 64-bit Windows 7 or later, an Intel Core i5-4570 at 3.20GHz or equivalent, a GeForce GTX560 or equivalent, and broadband internet. Steam’s client has required Windows 10 or later since January 1, 2024, so use Windows 10 or later for current Steam access.
Make the expression images
Create or obtain two PNG files showing distinct expressions, such as a neutral face and a speaking face. Keep the character’s position and scale consistent between images so the switch reads as one avatar changing expression rather than two pictures jumping around. This is a practical preparation tip, not a published PngTuber Maker image requirement.

Upload images and set up voice response
- Open PngTuber Maker and upload the expression PNGs. The listing describes the app as switching between uploaded expression pictures based on detected surrounding sound.
- Select or connect the microphone you intend to use. The product listing calls for a microphone but does not provide a detailed device-selection path or specify a particular model.
- Adjust the sound threshold using the app’s available control. There is no published numeric starting value, so do not treat any one threshold number as universal.
- Speak into the selected microphone and watch for the avatar to change to its speaking expression. If ordinary speech does not trigger a switch, adjust the threshold and test again. If background noise triggers it, adjust the threshold and retest in the environment where you plan to use the avatar.
Add more avatar states if useful
Two expressions are enough to begin. YiMeta says additional state pictures can make the speaking effect more realistic. The listing also names emotion-switch animation, backgrounds, and avatar accessories. These are optional refinements; add them after confirming that the basic microphone-driven switch works.

Choose how to use the avatar
PngTuber Maker’s Steam listing names two output paths: export the avatar to the desktop, or use virtual-camera output for a video stream. The listing does not provide an OBS-specific setup sequence, so the exact steps for selecting the output in OBS or another application are not established here. Use the application’s current output controls and the receiving program’s camera-source settings.
Troubleshooting
- The avatar does not change while you speak: Check that the intended microphone is connected and selected, then adjust the sound threshold and test again.
- The avatar changes when the room is quiet: Ambient sound may be crossing the threshold. Adjust it and test under the same conditions in which you will stream.
- An image will not import or looks wrong: Confirm it is a PNG. The published listing gives no dimensions, transparency, or alignment requirements, so there is no documented specification to compare against.
- The avatar works in the app but not in your streaming setup: Confirm whether you chose desktop export or virtual-camera output, then check that your destination application is using the corresponding source. PngTuber Maker’s listing does not document destination-specific configuration.
Price and availability
YiMeta’s Steam listing describes PngTuber Maker as free “for the time being” and says the developer plans to gradually raise the price as content and features ship. Price and Early Access status can change; check the current Steam listing before installing. The listing names YiMeta as developer and publisher and gives a release date of January 25, 2023.
