To import a Streamlabs Desktop scene collection into OBS Studio, enable the known-location search in OBS, then use Scene Collection > Import. Importing adds the collection to OBS; you must select it from the Scene Collection menu to activate it. You do not need the Streamlabs Plugin for OBS to do this.
Import a Streamlabs scene collection
- Open OBS Studio and go to Settings.
- Open Importers and enable Search known locations for scene collections when importing. This lets OBS look for Streamlabs Desktop collections in its known locations.
- In OBS’s top menu, choose Scene Collection > Import.
- Select the Streamlabs Desktop collection that OBS detects.
- To use the imported collection, open Scene Collection and select its name. Importing makes it available; selecting it activates it.
OBS’s built-in Scene Collection importer supports collections from Streamlabs Desktop, as well as OBS Classic and XSplit Broadcaster. See the Streamlabs import guide and OBS’s Scene Collections documentation.
What transfers—and what to check afterward
A scene collection contains scenes and their sources. It also includes global audio sources configured under Settings > Audio. That does not mean every part of a Streamlabs setup is carried over: Streamlabs notes that output configurations, hotkeys, and audio settings may need to be set up again in OBS.
- Check that each scene and source appears as expected.
- Verify output configuration and hotkeys in OBS rather than assuming they transferred.
- Review audio settings and global audio sources.
- Check external files and devices used by sources. A saved source does not guarantee that its file or device is available on this computer.
- Test the setup before going live.
These checks follow the migration caveats in the Streamlabs guide.

Scene Collections and Profiles do different jobs
Use a Scene Collection for scene layouts and sources. Use an OBS Profile for stream, video, and output settings. Profiles do not store scenes, and scene collections do not store output settings. If you need to move both, handle them separately.
| OBS item | What it stores | Relevant action |
|---|---|---|
| Scene Collection | Scenes and sources, including global audio sources configured under Settings > Audio | Use Scene Collection > Import for the collection |
| Profile | Stream, video, and output settings; it does not contain scenes | Profiles can be imported or exported as JSON |
For details, see OBS’s documentation on Scene Collections and Profiles.

If OBS does not find the collection
- No collection appears under Import: Return to Settings > Importers, enable Search known locations for scene collections when importing, then open Scene Collection > Import again. OBS’s instructions describe detection through known locations but do not enumerate every cause of a failed detection.
- The collection imported but your old scenes are not active: Open the Scene Collection menu and select the imported collection.
- Scenes appear, but output or hotkeys differ: Review and configure those settings in OBS; Streamlabs says they may need to be set up again.
- A source is missing or unavailable: Inspect the source and confirm its external file or device is accessible on this computer.
- Audio behaves differently: Review the audio settings and global audio sources in OBS.
Do you need the Streamlabs Plugin for OBS?
No. The plugin is an optional integration for using Streamlabs features such as widgets, alerts, and overlays within OBS; it is not the mechanism for importing a Streamlabs Desktop scene collection. Streamlabs’ guide, last updated October 1, 2026, says the plugin requires OBS Studio 28.0.0 or later and is available on Windows. It describes the plugin as free to download and use, while multistream and some premium overlays are Streamlabs Ultra features. Check the current plugin guide for any changes to compatibility or availability.
