The most practical homemade Minecraft Verity costume is not a heavy enclosed mascot sphere. Build two lightweight, 15-inch yellow EVA-foam circles backed with corrugated cardboard, add Verity’s two black oval eyes and thin curved smile to the front, and wear the panels over black clothing. Black elastic straps hold the panels in place while leaving your head, arms and natural field of view uncovered.
This fan-made design targets Verity’s friendly yellow-orb appearance. It is not an officially licensed pattern or a representation of the later horror and demon forms, which can have different expressions and silhouettes.

What Verity looks like and what this costume should reproduce
Verity is presented as a yellow, smiley-faced AI assistant at the center of a Minecraft horror series created by YouTuber ThatMob in May 2026. The official Java mod describes a local AI companion, and CurseForge descriptions similarly portray a strange yellow companion. VerityMinecraft reported more than 22 million combined downloads on September 8, 2026, evidence of substantial fan interest rather than evidence of an official costume range.
The recognizable friendly form is visually simple: a bright yellow rounded body, two upright black oval eyes and one narrow black smile. That simplicity is an advantage for a home build. Do not add eyebrows, a tongue, cheek marks or a large emoji-style grin unless you are deliberately making a personal variant. Extra facial details make the result look like a generic smiley rather than Verity.

Minecraft’s official explainer says, “A Minecraft skin is like a big pixel-painting that is wrapped around your character.” A skin is therefore not a ready-made three-dimensional costume pattern. The panels below translate the yellow character into a wearable shape while preserving the flat, graphic face people recognize from the game community.
Choose the build before buying materials
There are several ways to signal “Minecraft,” but they do not perform equally well for Verity. Compare the options against the things that matter at a party or while trick-or-treating: resemblance, effort, visibility, heat, movement and whether the item can be reused.
Recommended Free Tools
| Approach | Visual match to friendly Verity | Construction effort | Mobility and visibility | Heat and comfort | Reusability | Recognition among Minecraft fans |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Two yellow foam-and-cardboard panels | Best match for the yellow orb and simple face | Moderate; requires cutting, gluing and strap fitting | Head and arms remain uncovered; good visibility | Better airflow than an enclosed shell | Panels store flat and can be worn again | High when the face is kept simple |
| Large enclosed yellow sphere | Potentially close in silhouette, but easy to make bulky | High; needs a frame, openings and a harness | Restricted unless viewing and access openings are designed well | Hotter, with ventilation concerns | Awkward to store and transport | High only if the expression and proportions are right |
| Ready-made Creeper or Steve costume | Low for Verity | Fast setup | Usually designed for general Minecraft movement | Depends on the costume | Useful for other Minecraft events | High for Minecraft generally, not for Verity specifically |
| Minecraft-themed apparel | Lowest character specificity | Minimal | Usually the easiest and coolest option | Generally comfortable | Highest everyday reusability | Recognizable as Minecraft, not necessarily as Verity |
For a first build, use the two-panel design. It puts the yellow face at chest height, avoids turning the character’s painted eyes into your viewing system, and can be removed quickly if you need to sit, eat or move through a crowded doorway.
Materials and tools
The structural purchase is a yellow EVA-foam roll. Look for that exact phrase at a craft supplier; the foam must be large enough for two matching circles. Felt and elastic are supporting purchases, while the cardboard can usually come from a clean shipping box.
| Material or tool | How much or what to look for | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow EVA foam roll | Enough to cut two 15-inch circles, with a little margin | Bright, lightweight outer surface |
| Recycled corrugated cardboard | Two pieces large enough for matching circles | Stiffens each foam panel |
| Black adhesive felt | Enough for two oval eyes and one narrow smile | Creates the high-contrast face without painting |
| Black elastic roll | Long enough for paired shoulder or side straps | Holds the front and rear panels against the torso |
| Paper | Large enough for a circle template | Lets you test the diameter before cutting foam |
| Pencil and ruler | Any reliable measuring tools | Marking circles, eye dimensions and strap positions |
| Scissors | Sharp enough for foam and felt | Cutting the flexible materials |
| Craft glue | Labelled as compatible with both EVA foam and cardboard | Bonding each foam circle to its backing |
| Packing tape | Several strips | Reinforcing strap slits on the cardboard side |
| Needle and thread | Strong thread suitable for elastic | Securing elastic ends to themselves |
| Black long-sleeve shirt and black joggers | Comfortable clothing that fits the wearer | Dark visual background and practical base layer |
| Slip-on shoes | A secure pair that does not require tying while wearing panels | Easy, safe footwear for movement and quick removal |
Use a cutting surface and keep scissors, needles and adhesive away from children unless an adult is supervising. Follow the glue manufacturer’s ventilation and curing directions; “compatible with EVA foam and cardboard” is a requirement, not a guarantee that every adhesive behaves the same way.
Step 1: Make and test the circle template
- Draw a 15-inch starting circle. The researched fan pattern uses 15 inches as its starting diameter. Mark the center of a sheet of paper, measure 7.5 inches from that point in several directions, and connect the marks into a smooth circle. A large plate, compass or string-and-pencil method can help, but measure the finished diameter with a ruler.
- Hold the paper against the wearer. Put the template on the torso below the neck. The circle should cover the chest without pressing into the throat, and the shoulders and upper arms must remain free. Check the width while the wearer stands naturally with arms down.
- Resize before cutting foam. Reduce the diameter for a smaller wearer or if the paper reaches the hands when the arms are relaxed. Make a second paper template if necessary. It is much easier to alter paper than to recover a circle already cut from foam and cardboard.
- Mark strap zones. While holding the template in place, mark approximate upper and lower side points where elastic can pass without crossing the neck, armpit or elbow. The exact position depends on the wearer’s torso, so use the paper fitting rather than copying a fixed measurement.
The two panels do not have to form a complete sphere. Their job is to create a rounded, yellow front-and-back silhouette while preserving a safe opening around the wearer.

Step 2: Cut and reinforce the two panels
- Trace twice on EVA foam. Place the paper template on the yellow foam and trace two circles. Cut slowly so the edges remain smooth. If the roll has a textured side, use the more even surface as the visible face.
- Trace twice on cardboard. Use the same template for two matching cardboard circles. Matching sizes prevent a hard cardboard edge from protruding around the foam.
- Glue each pair. Apply craft glue labelled for EVA foam and cardboard, then press one foam circle onto one cardboard circle. Repeat for the second panel. Work on a protected surface and let the adhesive set for the full time printed on its label.
- Trim the backing. After the bond has set, inspect the circumference. Trim any cardboard that extends beyond the yellow foam so it cannot catch clothing or another person.
- Round the practical edges. Do not add wire, exposed staples or sharp reinforcement. The foam should be the contact edge, with cardboard hidden behind it.
Lift a panel by its cardboard back rather than pulling on the foam rim. That habit reduces the chance of the foam separating from the backing during repeated use.
Step 3: Lay out Verity’s face
Decorate only the front panel. Keep the rear panel plain yellow so the costume reads as a rounded character from behind and the expression remains the visual focal point.
- Cut two upright oval eyes. A useful starting size is approximately 1.5 inches wide by 2.5 inches high for each black felt oval. Draw the first oval on scrap paper, cut it out, and use it as a repeatable template so both eyes match.
- Center the pair. Place the ovals on the yellow panel without removing the felt backing. Keep them upright, with a consistent gap between them and equal distances from the panel’s centerline. Step back several feet to judge the expression at costume distance.
- Make the smile narrow and curved. The researched pattern uses a smile about 8 inches wide. Draw a shallow curve on paper, transfer it to black adhesive felt and cut a strip rather than a thick emoji mouth. The smile should sit below the eyes with enough yellow space to keep the face open.
- Press only after the layout is even. Once the eyes and smile look balanced from straight on, peel the felt backing and press from the center outward to reduce wrinkles.
Do not cut holes through the face for your eyes. The wearer looks around the panel’s edge and through the open space above and below it; the painted eyes are decoration, not transparent windows.
Step 4: Add elastic straps without tearing the cardboard
- Mark paired slits. On each panel’s cardboard side, mark two points on the upper sides and two on the lower sides, using the paper fitting as your guide. Keep enough material between a slit and the edge that the cardboard will not split.
- Reinforce every slit. Apply packing tape over and around the marked areas on the cardboard side. Press the tape firmly and add another layer if the board is soft or corrugated channels are exposed.
- Cut narrow openings. Make slits only wide enough for the elastic. Avoid a large hole, which concentrates stress and can let the strap pull through.
- Thread the elastic. Pass black elastic through the paired openings so the front and rear panels connect around the shoulders or sides. Keep the elastic flat; a twist creates pressure and changes how the panels hang.
- Secure the ends. Stitch each end back onto itself or use another secure method that cannot leave a hard point against the wearer. Trim loose tails and cover any rough end on the cardboard side.
- Adjust both sides evenly. The front panel should sit below the neck, with the rear panel at a similar height. Uneven straps make one circle tilt and can pull the face off center.
Elastic should hold the costume close enough to stay stable but not so tight that breathing, shoulder movement or removal becomes difficult. Build in a way for an adult to release the panels quickly.

Wear a black long-sleeve shirt, black joggers and slip-on shoes under the panels. The black clothing is not part of Verity’s character design; it is a functional visual background that keeps attention on the yellow shape and hides gaps between the front and rear circles.
Choose a shirt that does not bunch under the cardboard and joggers that permit a full stride. Tuck loose drawstrings and remove bulky items from pockets that could press into the panel. Slip-on shoes make it easier to remove the costume quickly, but they must still fit securely and have soles suitable for the surface where you will walk.

Put on the base clothing before making the final strap adjustment. Fabric thickness changes the panel height, and a strap set over a thin T-shirt may feel too tight over a long-sleeve shirt.
Step 6: Test movement before the event
A costume that looks correct while standing can become unsafe when the wearer turns, sits or reaches. Perform the complete test with both panels installed and the intended clothing underneath.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Walk at normal speed and take a few longer steps.
- Turn left and right to check whether the panel catches your arms or another person.
- Sit in a chair, stand up and bend enough to pick up a lightweight object.
- Climb a few steps while holding the handrail if one is available.
- Reach for a door handle, open the door and move through the doorway.
- Look in all directions. Confirm that the panel does not block your peripheral view or force your chin down.
- Have an adult observe from the side and behind for strap slipping, exposed cardboard and snag points.
- Practice removing both panels quickly without stepping on them.
Adjust the elastic or reduce the circle diameter if the hands, knees or feet repeatedly hit the panels. Do not solve a mobility problem by adding rigid bars or sharp hardware near a collision zone.
Vision, ventilation and quick removal
The open two-panel design leaves the head uncovered, so the wearer does not need to see through painted eyes. It also leaves the arms and much of the torso exposed to moving air. Keep the face panel below the neck and do not raise it into the wearer’s line of sight.
If you attempt an enclosed sphere despite these advantages, treat it as a different engineering project. The guidance for a larger shell calls for all of the following:
- A clear forward viewing opening positioned for the wearer, not merely painted eye shapes.
- Ventilation gaps that prevent heat and stale air from building up.
- Lightweight materials rather than a heavy rigid shell.
- Edges that are covered, rounded or otherwise unable to cut or scrape.
- A harness that distributes the load across the torso instead of hanging from the neck.
- A quick-release support so another person can remove the sphere immediately.
- A full movement test before final decorations are attached.
Never let a child or adult wear an enclosed version unattended. If the wearer feels overheated, short of breath, dizzy or unable to see clearly, remove it immediately.

Troubleshooting common build problems
The front panel tilts
Check that the upper and lower elastic lengths match on both sides and that the strap is not twisted. Reposition the slits symmetrically or shorten only the loose side. The panel should hang from balanced tension, not from a single strap.
The cardboard tears at a strap
Remove the load before the tear grows. Add packing tape over a wider area on the cardboard side, move the slit farther from the edge if the design permits, and stitch or secure a fresh elastic end. If the board is crushed, replace that backing rather than relying on a small patch.
The felt face wrinkles or peels
Lift and reposition adhesive felt before pressing it firmly, if the adhesive allows. For a completed panel, warm the area only if the felt manufacturer permits it; otherwise replace the individual eye or smile piece. Press from the center toward the edges during application and keep the panel flat while the adhesive settles.

Return to the defining proportions: two upright black ovals, one thin curved smile, a bright yellow rounded field and no extra emoji decorations. Check the expression from several feet away, where a Halloween viewer will actually see it.
The foam edge catches on clothing
Trim protruding cardboard, smooth rough foam cuts and inspect the circumference by hand. Do not cover a snag with a sharp fastener. A clean, rounded edge is safer and also makes the panel look more finished.
The wearer cannot move comfortably
Reduce the circle diameter, raise or lower the strap points slightly, or loosen the elastic. Verify that the panel sits below the neck and outside the natural swing of the arms. Do not add weight to make the shape more rigid until movement has been retested.

Make the sizing work for different wearers
The 15-inch diameter is a starting point from a practical fan guide, not an official Verity specification. A smaller wearer may need a reduced circle so the lower edge does not reach the knees or interfere with the hands. A taller wearer can test the same template, but should still confirm that the face remains centered on the chest and that the panel does not press into the neck.
Keep the eyes and smile proportional when resizing. If the circle becomes substantially smaller, make a reduced paper face template rather than placing the original 1.5-by-2.5-inch eyes and 8-inch smile unchanged. The goal is a balanced expression, not adherence to numbers that no longer fit the panel.
Storage, transport and reuse
Store the panels flat, with the cardboard backs supported. Avoid folding the foam, stacking heavy objects on the felt face or leaving the costume in a damp place where cardboard can soften. Carry each panel by its backing and keep the elastic from rubbing across the adhesive felt.
Because the panels separate, you can transport them in a car or store them behind a bed or wardrobe. Before the next wear, inspect the elastic stitches, taped slit reinforcements, foam-to-cardboard bond and felt edges. Repair those points before putting the costume on, then repeat the walking and quick-removal test.
What this fan build can and cannot claim
This construction is a practical interpretation of the friendly yellow orb for a home Halloween costume. It is not creator-approved, officially licensed or a verified commercial pattern. No mainstream official physical Verity costume or licensed sewing pattern has been established. The later horror and demon interpretations may require a different face, color treatment or silhouette, so do not describe this panel build as covering every Verity form.
