How to Make a Better MC BMC3 Server for Minecraft 1.19.2 (Forge Guide)

Install the correct BMC3 Forge 1.19.2 Server Pack v20, configure Java and memory safely, match every client, reduce lag, and preserve this discontinued legacy pack.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To run a Better MC BMC3 server for Minecraft 1.19.2, download the BMC3 Forge 1.19.2 Server Pack v20, install Java 17 or newer, launch the scripts included in that pack, and give the server a starting allocation of about 4 GB. The installation guide recommends 6–8 GB for a smoother modded experience, while the host should have at least 8 GB of system RAM (16 GB is the recommended amount). Never allocate more than half of the machine’s total memory.

Use the exact Forge server pack that matches the clients. BMC3 is a discontinued legacy pack, so preserving the downloaded files, Java build, Forge build, configuration, and world backups matters more than chasing newer mod updates.

What Better MC BMC3 is

Better MC [FORGE] BMC3 is a Minecraft 1.19.2 Forge modpack from LunaPixelStudios. Its project description calls it “A Proper Vanilla+ Modpack | Don’t play Vanilla play this!” and lists more than 250 mods in the v20 release context. The pack substantially changes exploration and progression instead of simply adding a few decorative blocks.

  • Overhauled world generation with hundreds of dungeons and structures.
  • More than 100 quests to provide an organized progression path.
  • Five additional dimensions, including The Aether.
  • New bosses, mobs, building blocks, and exploration content.
  • Quality-of-life features such as Waystones and XP Tomes.
  • Xaero’s Minimap, built-in world sharing, shader support, and included optimization components.

The BMC3 project’s latest listed release is v20, dated November 22, 2023. The versions listing identifies it as a Forge/Minecraft 1.19.2 pack, marks it discontinued, and shows more than 2.3 million downloads on the current listing. Those figures describe the project’s published listing, not a guarantee of server capacity or performance.

Choose the correct BMC3 server pack

For a manual server, download the file named BMC3 Forge 1.19.2 Server Pack v20 from the project’s Additional Files or server-pack listing. Do not download only the main CurseForge manifest and expect it to be a complete server installation. The manifest is intended for the launcher application; the manual setup requires the full server bundle.

The server pack contains the libraries, mods, configuration files, and launch scripts that belong together. Extract all of it into a dedicated directory. Do not combine files from BMC3 Fabric, another Better MC release, a different Minecraft version, or an unrelated Forge pack.

Why the Forge/Fabric distinction matters

Some generic Better MC troubleshooting text says that BMC3 or BMC2 requires Fabric. That statement conflicts with the exact project named in this guide: Better MC [FORGE] BMC3. The project’s loader field, release name, and server-pack filename identify this edition as Forge for Minecraft 1.19.2.

Use Forge instructions and the Forge server pack for this title. A Fabric loader, Fabric mods, or a BMC3 Fabric guide cannot be substituted for the Forge files. If a startup log mentions Fabric classes while you are trying to run the Forge pack, stop and check that the extracted directory contains the v20 Forge bundle rather than a different edition.

Requirements before installation

Hardware and operating system

A modded server needs more memory and storage bandwidth than a vanilla 1.19.2 server. The published Better MC guidance gives these starting points:

Rank #2
Minecraft | Java & Bedrock Ultimate Collection | Windows Digital Code
  • ULTIMATE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, five Bedrock add-ons, five exclusive Character Creator items, and 1000 Minecoins.
  • CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
  • EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.

  • PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).
Resource Starting guidance How to interpret it
Java heap allocation 4 GB minimum; 6–8 GB recommended These are setup figures, not a player-capacity guarantee.
Total system RAM 8 GB minimum; 16 GB recommended The host also needs memory for the operating system and other services.
Maximum allocation rule Less than half of total system RAM Leaving memory for the operating system helps prevent swapping and instability.
Java runtime Java 17 or newer Pin the executable used by the launch script so a later Java upgrade does not silently change the runtime.

Use an SSD where possible, especially for a world with many structures and dimensions. Reserve free disk space for world growth, backups, logs, and temporary Forge files. The published guidance does not specify a universal CPU model or maximum player count, so test with the actual number of players and view distance you intend to support.

Network and account preparation

  • Use a stable wired connection for a self-hosted machine when practical.
  • Give the server a fixed local address if you will configure port forwarding.
  • Allow the Java server through the operating system firewall only on the networks you intend to use.
  • Have every player install the identical BMC3 client release before attempting to connect.

Install the BMC3 Forge 1.19.2 server

  1. Download the full server pack. Select the BMC3 Forge 1.19.2 v20 server-pack file from the project’s additional files. Keep the original archive as a recovery copy.
  2. Create a clean server directory. Use a path dedicated to this installation, such as a folder named for BMC3 v20. Avoid placing it inside another modpack’s directory.
  3. Extract every file. Preserve the bundled mods, config, libraries, scripts, and other directories. Do not merge the extraction into an existing Forge server.
  4. Install Java 17 or newer. Confirm that the version is the one supported by the pack’s installation guidance. If several Java versions are installed, edit the launch script to point to the intended executable explicitly.
  5. Run the supplied Forge launch script. Use the script included in the server pack rather than copying a command from a different Forge build. The exact command can vary with the pack’s generated files.
  6. Accept the EULA when prompted. The first launch normally creates an EULA file and stops. Open that file, change the acceptance setting as required by Mojang’s terms, save it, and run the same supplied script again.
  7. Let the first complete startup finish. Forge must create the world, dimensions, configuration, and caches. The initial launch can take considerably longer than later restarts; do not kill the process merely because the console is quiet for a while.
  8. Stop cleanly and make a baseline backup. Use the server console’s stop command, then copy the world and configuration directories before inviting players.

The cited installation pages do not prescribe one universal startup command for every operating system or server-pack revision. That is why retaining and running the command generated by the downloaded v20 bundle is safer than pasting a command intended for another Forge build.

Configure the first world

Start without changing the mod list. Allow the pack to generate its default dimensions, structures, and configuration first. Join with one correctly installed client and verify that the player can enter the world, travel through a Waystone, open the quest interface, and use the pack’s map and inventory features.

Record the world seed, server directory, Java executable path, launch arguments, and pack filename in a deployment note. If you later need to restore the server, those details let you reproduce the same environment instead of guessing which files were used.

Install matching clients

  1. Install the Better MC [FORGE] BMC3 client for the same release as the server, preferably v20 if the server uses the v20 server pack.
  2. Confirm that the client uses Minecraft 1.19.2 and Forge, not Fabric or another Minecraft version.
  3. Do not add optional mods until the unmodified pack connects successfully.
  4. Have every player update or roll back to the exact same pack version when the server changes.

A client with a different mod, configuration, or pack revision can fail during the handshake, disconnect after joining, or produce missing-content errors. Treat the server and clients as one versioned installation.

Memory allocation and Java tuning

Begin with 4 GB allocated to the server if the host is modest, then move toward the recommended 6–8 GB range when the machine has sufficient RAM and the player load warrants it. Allocation is not the same as total system memory: an 8 GB host cannot safely devote all 8 GB to Java because the operating system, file cache, and background services still need room.

Practical allocation examples

Total host RAM Reasonable starting heap Notes
8 GB About 4 GB at most, with care This is the minimum host size in the published guidance; avoid running other heavy services.
16 GB 6–8 GB This aligns with the recommended Better MC allocation while leaving memory for the operating system.
More than 16 GB Start at 6–8 GB and test More heap is not automatically faster; increase only when monitoring shows a real need.

Use the pack’s generated launch script and its existing JVM arguments as the baseline. Change only the memory values you understand, and record every change. Excessive heap can lengthen garbage-collection pauses, while too little heap can cause out-of-memory crashes during exploration.

How to reduce lag on a BMC3 server

Lower view distance first

If players report delayed chunk loading, rubber-banding, or a host that remains near full CPU usage, lower the server’s view-distance setting to 8–10 first. This reduces the number of chunks the server must keep active around each player and is usually less disruptive than removing mods.

Edit the server configuration file containing the setting, save it while the server is stopped, and restart cleanly. Lower values improve workload at the cost of how far each player can see and how much terrain remains active around them.

Keep the included optimization stack

BMC3 includes optimization components and shader support. Keep the pack’s original files together before considering additions. Randomly adding a performance mod can conflict with the fixed Forge 1.19.2 stack, duplicate a library, or change rendering and server behavior in ways that are difficult to diagnose.

Test under the intended load

  • Measure behavior while several players explore in different directions, not only while one player stands at spawn.
  • Watch memory use, CPU load, disk activity, and the server console during exploration and dimension changes.
  • Generate or pre-explore important areas before a group event if first-time chunk generation causes a noticeable spike.
  • Stop large automated farms or redstone machines temporarily to determine whether a particular base is creating the lag.

No independent benchmark or published tick-time study establishes a guaranteed player count for BMC3. Treat the 4 GB and 6–8 GB figures as configuration guidance, then validate the result on your own hardware and connection.

Backups, updates, and safe changes

Back up before every risky operation

Stop the server cleanly before copying files. At minimum, back up the world directories and the config directory. Keep one local copy and one copy on separate storage. Include the original server-pack archive so a future restore does not depend on finding the same discontinued download.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not casually add or remove mods

The multiplayer guidance warns against changing the mod list without checking compatibility. A mod that works in another 1.19.2 pack can still conflict with BMC3’s versions, registries, or configuration. Test any change on a copy of the world, not on the only live save.

Record a reproducible deployment

Your deployment note should contain:

  • BMC3 server-pack filename and release, including v20 if that is the deployed version.
  • Minecraft and Forge versions shown by the server.
  • Java version and the full path to the executable.
  • JVM memory values and any changed arguments.
  • Server properties such as view-distance.
  • Dates and locations of world and configuration backups.

Because BMC3 is discontinued and no longer receives normal updates, freezing this information is more reliable than assuming a launcher will reconstruct the same environment later.

Self-hosting or managed hosting?

Both approaches can run a Forge pack. The right choice depends on whether you value direct control or reduced administration.

Best Value
Minecraft - Bedrock Edition PS4
  • Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
  • discover community creations in the new in-game store
  • access new mini games and game modes through servers
Consideration Self-hosted machine Managed Minecraft host
Setup effort You install Java and Forge, extract the pack, configure the firewall, and handle port forwarding. The provider may offer a one-click Forge or modpack installer; verify that BMC3 v20 is available before paying.
Control Full access to files, scripts, JVM arguments, backups, and network settings. Control depends on the provider’s panel and terms, though file managers and console access are common.
Recurring cost No hosting subscription, but you pay for hardware, electricity, storage, and your internet connection. Monthly cost varies by memory, location, support, and backup options; check the current quote.
Backups and support You design and test your own backup and recovery process. Automated backups and support may be included, but confirm retention and whether full legacy-pack restores are supported.
Latency Excellent for players near the host, subject to your upload capacity and ISP routing. You can select a geographic region, but the available locations determine latency.
Legacy version preservation You can archive the exact v20 files and Java runtime yourself. Confirm that the panel permits custom server files and does not force an unintended pack update.

Any provider that supports Forge can be a technical option, but current BMC3 availability, pricing, geographic locations, and partner terms change. Confirm those details directly before moving an existing world.

Troubleshooting common failures

The server reports Fabric classes or refuses to load Forge mods

Check the project name and archive filename. You need Better MC [FORGE] BMC3 for Minecraft 1.19.2 and the matching Forge server pack. Remove the incorrect extraction, create a clean directory, and unpack the Forge v20 archive again. Do not try to repair a mixed Forge/Fabric directory by replacing one loader file.

Players receive a mod-list or registry mismatch

Compare the client and server pack versions, then compare the contents of their mod and configuration directories. Remove client-side additions that are not part of the server’s approved setup. If the server was changed, restore the previous backup or distribute the exact revised pack to every player.

The process exits during startup

  • Verify Java 17 or newer and confirm that the launch script points to that executable.
  • Run the supplied script from the server directory so relative paths resolve correctly.
  • Check the latest log for a missing library, malformed configuration, or incompatible mod.
  • Restore the untouched server-pack files if you manually replaced a jar.
  • Reduce other applications on an 8 GB host and check that the configured heap is not greater than half of total RAM.

The server starts but becomes unresponsive during exploration

Lower view-distance to 8–10, test with fewer simultaneous explorers, and watch memory and CPU use. If the issue appears only in one base, temporarily disable heavy farms or redstone systems there. Keep the included optimization components intact before attempting any mod replacement.

Friends cannot connect from outside the home network

For self-hosting, verify the firewall rule, router port-forwarding entry, and the server’s local address. Confirm that the server is listening after startup and that players are using the correct public address. If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, inbound forwarding may not work without an alternative hosting arrangement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A maintenance routine for a discontinued pack

  1. Keep the v20 server archive, client installation files, and deployment note in more than one location.
  2. Schedule regular world and configuration backups and periodically test restoring one.
  3. Do not accept an automatic modpack or Java change without testing it on a copy.
  4. Review disk space and log growth before the world becomes difficult to back up.
  5. Apply configuration changes during a planned stop, then test joining, dimensions, quests, and common player bases.
  6. When recruiting a new player, distribute the exact client release rather than telling them to install a similarly named pack.

This process keeps a legacy BMC3 world reproducible even after launchers, hosting panels, or download listings change.

Final setup checklist

  • Correct project: Better MC [FORGE] BMC3 for Minecraft 1.19.2.
  • Correct file: BMC3 Forge 1.19.2 Server Pack v20.
  • Java 17 or newer installed and pinned in the launch script.
  • Server pack extracted into a clean, dedicated directory.
  • EULA accepted through the generated EULA file.
  • Initial world generated and stopped cleanly for a baseline backup.
  • Every client uses the identical Forge pack version.
  • Heap starts around 4 GB, moves toward 6–8 GB only when the host allows it, and remains below half of total RAM.
  • view-distance is reduced to 8–10 if the server struggles.
  • World, configuration, archive, Java, Forge, and JVM details are recorded for restoration.

Following those checks gives you a stable BMC3 1.19.2 Forge server without mixing loaders, over-allocating memory, or losing the exact files needed to recover a discontinued pack.
