You can loop an ocean-wave video through FFmpeg and send it to YouTube Live, provided your channel is eligible, your media rights cover continuous streaming, and your computer and internet connection stay available. The setup is: prepare a seamless, rights-cleared loop; create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio; send it with FFmpeg; then monitor it and plan for restarts. This guide uses 1080p30 as an example and treats the command as a starting point, not a tested, guaranteed configuration.
Before you begin
Check YouTube Live eligibility
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. The streamer must be at least 16. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup guide.

Prepare media with the right permissions
Use your own ocean recording and visuals, or confirm that the license explicitly permits continuous public live streaming and any archive you want to keep. Keep a copy of the license. “Royalty-free” does not by itself establish that looping, monetization, edits, or archived copies are allowed. If you have permission to use third-party material, ask the rights holder whether your channel must be added to YouTube’s Content ID allowlist. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, and a license alone may not prevent an interruption. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
Check your computer and connection
FFmpeg must run for the duration of the broadcast. A local FFmpeg stream therefore depends on the host computer staying powered on, the process continuing to run, and the internet connection sustaining the upload. YouTube recommends choosing settings your connection can maintain and testing before going live. Its guide does not prescribe a particular computer or hardware encoder for this software workflow.

Prepare a loop that works for long listening
Make the audio and picture loop cleanly
Listen to the transition between the end and start of the audio, including on headphones. If the wave recording has a click, abrupt change in loudness, or obvious gap at the seam, FFmpeg will repeat that flaw indefinitely; edit or replace the source first. Check the video transition too. A static or slowly moving coastal scene can be appropriate for a meditation stream, but use visuals you own or are licensed to broadcast.
Choose a sustainable output quality
For a mostly static meditation scene, 1080p30 is a reasonable starting target if your computer can encode it and your upload connection can sustain the bitrate with headroom. It is an editorial recommendation, not a YouTube requirement. YouTube’s current encoder settings table recommends 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30. Audio-only listening does not require 4K, and you should favor a lower sustainable resolution over a stream that repeatedly drops frames or disconnects. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. It recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest. Consult its current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance when choosing settings for a different resolution or codec.
Create the encoder stream in YouTube Studio

Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into your local setup. Treat the key like a password: do not put a real key in a public article, screenshot, shared command transcript, repository, or log. If you expose it, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting.
-
Keep the stream’s Live Control Room available. You will use its preview, status, and stream-health messages to confirm that FFmpeg is reaching the intended broadcast.

Start FFmpeg and send the loop to YouTube
The following illustrative command loops one prepared video file and sends H.264 video and AAC audio to YouTube over RTMPS. Replace the ingest address and key locally with the values YouTube gives you; never publish a command containing a real key.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i ocean-loop.mp4
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
-r 30 -g 60 -b:v 6M -maxrate 6M -bufsize 12M
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://YOUTUBE_INGEST/STREAM_KEY"
What to adapt
-
-rereads the input at its recorded pace rather than sending a file as fast as possible.-stream_loop -1requests an endless input loop; confirm the behavior with your installed FFmpeg build and actual file. -
-r 30sets the output to 30 frames per second.-g 60sets a 60-frame GOP, which at 30 fps corresponds to a two-second keyframe interval. -
The example’s video bitrate is 6 Mbps, below YouTube’s recommended 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30. Treat it as an illustrative lower-bitrate starting point, not as matching YouTube’s recommendation. Set bitrate and resolution for your visual goal, encoder capacity, and available upload speed.
-
-b:a 128ksets the example AAC audio bitrate. Listen for clipping and noise in the test stream; choose audio settings appropriate to the source and your encoder.Quick wins for a faster PC:

Test, go live, and monitor
-
Start FFmpeg while the stream is selected in YouTube Studio. Wait for the preview and status information in Live Control Room before announcing the broadcast.
-
Test with audio and movement representative of the real stream. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy. -
Check that the intended stream is receiving the signal, audio is not clipping, the loop seam is acceptable, and stream health remains stable. Watch YouTube’s messages during the broadcast, not just the FFmpeg terminal.
-
Keep the computer awake and prevent planned updates, sleep, or shutdown from stopping the encoder. If the process exits or the connection fails, check both FFmpeg output and Live Control Room before restarting so you know whether YouTube still considers the stream active.
Plan for disconnects and the 24-hour archive limit
A 24/7 broadcast is not a promise of uninterrupted service. Local power, the host, the network, FFmpeg, or YouTube can interrupt it. Keep a manual restart procedure or use process supervision on the host, and check YouTube’s stream state after recovery. FFmpeg’s protocol documentation describes reconnect controls for supported protocol inputs, including retry and delay options, and reconnect_at_eof for treating end-of-file as an error in live or endless input workflows. Those input-side controls do not establish that every RTMPS output disconnect will resume seamlessly. See FFmpeg’s protocol documentation.

YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous 24-hour broadcast therefore will not automatically produce one complete archive under that rule. If keeping a full-day recording matters, plan a separate recording and archive workflow, and confirm the media license allows it.

FFmpeg cannot connect: Check that the server URL and stream key match the selected YouTube stream, that the key has not been exposed or replaced, and that the network permits the connection. Check FFmpeg’s error output and YouTube’s Live Control Room status.
-
The stream buffers, drops frames, or disconnects: Compare the selected bitrate with what your upload connection can sustain, leaving headroom for variation. Lower the output resolution or bitrate if needed, and test under conditions similar to the broadcast.
-
The broadcast looks or sounds wrong: Confirm the output frame rate, video codec, audio codec, and keyframe interval against YouTube’s current settings guidance. Inspect the source file and listen to its loop seam; an encoder cannot repair a defect already present in the recording.
-
YouTube interrupts the live stream over content: Review the notice and your rights for every audio and visual element. Contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting if you have a license; do not assume that a license automatically prevents matching or interruption.

The stream stops when nobody is at the computer: The local setup requires the host and its connection to remain available. Disable sleep for the planned run and arrange monitoring and a restart path, or consider a cloud-hosted YouTube looping service.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want your home computer and connection to be part of the uptime plan, StreamNeo is the #1 alternative to try first: it keeps an uploaded-video stream running to YouTube from the cloud, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free. The setup is three steps: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer can be off; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. A slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across your active slots, and 24/7 looping and playlists; the same features apply on every plan. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free day.
