Review upcoming renewals, consider cheaper tiers or a useful bundle, and rotate services when your viewing changes. Check title availability and plan terms before making a switch: catalogs and prices change.
Start with your household’s watch list and bills
Make one list of every paid streaming service, its monthly cost, renewal date, billing provider, and the shows or live events someone in your household has watched recently or plans to watch soon. Include subscriptions billed through an app store, TV provider, or another package; the payment route can affect the plan and cancellation process.

This is a practical way to find costs that no longer match your viewing. In a 2025 affordability snapshot, the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation reported that nearly half of subscribers said they paid too much for the streaming services they used, while 40 percent believed the content was not worth the price. Those are the committee’s reported figures, not a measure of current prices. Read the committee’s executive summary.
- Record each service, the amount charged, the next renewal date, and who bills you.
- Write down the specific titles or live events your household wants, and when they expect to watch them.
- Mark services with nothing worth watching before the next renewal for a cancellation or pause review.
Choose a lower-priced plan only if its trade-offs work
A cheaper tier can preserve access to a service’s catalog while changing the viewing experience or features. Compare the plan’s actual title availability, ads, video quality, simultaneous streams, and downloads with what your household needs.

Netflix’s listed U.S. plans
Netflix’s Help Center lists these monthly U.S. prices and features; confirm the current offer and eligibility on the provider’s page, especially if Netflix is billed through another company.
| Plan | Listed price | Ads and viewing features |
|---|---|---|
| Standard with ads | $8.99/month | Ads; two simultaneous streams; 1080p; some titles are unavailable on this plan. |
| Standard | $19.99/month | Ad-free; two simultaneous streams; 1080p. |
| Premium | $26.99/month | Ad-free; four simultaneous streams; 4K/HDR. |
Netflix says it bills monthly, does not offer annual or multi-month memberships, and lets members change or cancel a plan at any time. A lower price is not a saving if the ad tier lacks a title you want or a feature your household relies on. Check Netflix’s current plans, pricing, and account terms before changing tiers.

Compare bundles with the plans you actually pay for
A bundle is worthwhile only when its included services and tiers fit your watch list. Hulu lists its Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max bundle in the U.S. at $21.99 per month with ads or $34.99 per month without ads. Hulu compares those amounts with $35.97 and $61.47 per month, respectively, for the separate tiers used in its comparison. The savings are not necessarily the savings for your household: compare the bundle with your existing plan prices, billing arrangements, and needed features.

The bundle is U.S.-only and, according to Hulu, applies to direct-billed purchases. It uses three separate apps and libraries rather than combining every title in one place. The no-ads option includes HBO Max Standard, Disney+ Premium, and Hulu No Ads; HBO Max Premium and certain plans or add-ons are not available with the bundle. Hulu also notes that some HBO Max content appears in Hulu while additional content is available only in the HBO Max app. Select live and linear content may still include ads in the no-ads option. See Hulu’s bundle page and HBO Max’s bundle help page for the current included tiers and limits.

Rotate subscriptions around what you plan to watch
You do not have to keep every service active at the same time. If a service has no upcoming title or live event on your list, review its cancellation terms before the next renewal. You can subscribe again when there is something you want to watch, then review the next renewal rather than letting it pass unnoticed.
- Check the service account’s billing and cancellation page for the renewal date and cancellation instructions.
- If another company bills you, check that company’s account or package terms; cancelling directly with the streamer may not end a third-party subscription.
- Cancel or change the plan before the charge you intend to avoid, and set a reminder for any service you plan to restart.
Netflix says members can cancel at any time. Hulu says bundle service continues through the end of the billing cycle after cancellation. Terms differ by service and billing channel, so verify the instructions for your account rather than assuming one provider’s policy applies to another.

Follow the provider’s account-sharing rules
Do not count on sharing a password to reduce costs without checking the provider’s rules. Netflix says an account cannot be shared outside its household, which it defines around devices connected to the internet at the main residence. Paid extra-member slots are available on eligible plans, but price and eligibility can vary by package. Check Netflix’s household and extra-member terms for your account.
Review the plan before each renewal
Prices, catalogues, bundle contents, and billing terms can change. Revisit your list after a show’s season ends or before a renewal, and verify the current provider page before switching plans. A useful choice is the lowest-cost combination that still includes the titles, features, and access your household actually needs.
