How to Loop Hindi Videos on YouTube Live with FFmpeg and Optional SRS

A practical guide to sending a prerecorded Hindi video on repeat to YouTube Live with FFmpeg, with SRS as an optional self-hosted relay.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To loop a prerecorded Hindi video on YouTube Live, publish it from FFmpeg to the RTMP or RTMPS server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. Use FFmpeg’s input pacing option for a file, and verify the loop syntax against your installed FFmpeg build. SRS is optional: add it only if you need your own RTMP relay between FFmpeg and YouTube. Hindi audio or captions do not change the technical process, but you must have the necessary rights to stream the video and soundtrack.

Choose a direct connection or an SRS relay

Route What it connects What you operate
Direct FFmpeg publishes to the YouTube ingest URL and stream key. FFmpeg, the computer running it, and its network connection.
Via SRS FFmpeg publishes to an SRS RTMP endpoint; SRS relays the feed to YouTube. FFmpeg plus the SRS process, host, and network configuration.

The direct route has fewer components and is the simplest starting point. SRS is useful when you specifically need a self-hosted RTMP endpoint or relay control; it is not required for a file-to-YouTube stream. The SRS documentation’s sample publisher sends to SRS, not to YouTube, so keep the two destinations distinct.

Before you start

  • Video and rights: Have a video file FFmpeg can read, and confirm you have permission to stream its video, music, and other included material. This is an operational check, not legal advice.
  • YouTube access: Be able to create or select a live stream in YouTube Live Control Room. The applicable account eligibility and settings can vary; follow the requirements shown in your account.
  • FFmpeg: Install a build that can read your file and publish to the selected endpoint. Check that build’s local help and documentation because command options and support can differ by version.
  • Network and power: For the do-it-yourself route, keep the computer running FFmpeg and its internet connection available throughout the planned event.

Create the YouTube live stream and protect its key

  1. Open YouTube Live Control Room and create a stream or select a scheduled event.
  2. Copy the server URL and stream key currently displayed for that stream. Use the exact endpoint YouTube provides; prefer its RTMPS endpoint if your encoder supports it. Google describes RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL and specifies port 443 for the connection.
  3. Keep the key private. Do not place it in a public command example, screenshot, repository, or chat. Treat it like a credential; if it is exposed, replace it through the controls available in YouTube Studio.

YouTube’s encoder setup guidance covers creating the event, connecting the encoder, checking the preview, and starting a scheduled stream: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. Google’s technical explanation of secure ingest is at Delivering Live YouTube Content via RTMPS.

Loop the file directly to YouTube with FFmpeg

Check the loop syntax for your installed build

FFmpeg’s command-line options are order-sensitive and generally apply to the next input or output. Put file-input options before that file’s -i. The -re option paces file reading at the input’s native frame rate; it is useful when output should flow at a live rate, but it does not make a file repeat.

Before building the command, inspect the locally installed documentation with ffmpeg -h and the relevant input-format help, or consult the documentation matching your installed version. The FFmpeg project’s online documentation is regenerated nightly, so it may not describe an older local binary. Confirm that your build supports the input-loop option and syntax you intend to use.

FFmpeg documents a filter-level infinite frame loop as loop=-1, but a frame-loop filter is not interchangeable in every case with looping a media-file input. Choose the input-loop method appropriate to your file and build rather than assuming one loop flag works universally. See the FFmpeg command-line documentation and FFmpeg filters documentation.

Build and start the direct command

  1. Replace VIDEO_FILE with the path to your Hindi video. Put the verified input-loop option and -re before -i. For example, the command’s structure is:
ffmpeg [verified input-loop option] -re -i "VIDEO_FILE" [output options appropriate to your file and YouTube settings] -f flv "YOUTUBE_SERVER_URL/STREAM_KEY"
  2. Replace the destination with the exact server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Do not paste a real key into a public post or save it in a shared script.
  3. Choose output options that are compatible with the source and the current YouTube settings displayed for your stream. This does not establish a universally suitable resolution, frame rate, bitrate, or account preset, so do not treat any single set of values as correct for every channel and file.
  4. Run FFmpeg and check its output for input, encoding, and connection errors. Leave the process running for the intended event; stopping FFmpeg stops this encoder feed.
  5. In Live Control Room, wait until YouTube shows the encoder preview. Check picture and sound, then click Go live for a scheduled stream when the preview is ready.

The placeholders above are deliberately not a copy-and-run command: input-loop syntax and output settings must match your FFmpeg build, file, and YouTube stream configuration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use SRS as an optional relay

The relay topology is video file → FFmpeg → SRS → YouTube. First run SRS on a host you control and configure its RTMP application and stream path. Then point FFmpeg at that SRS endpoint, using the loop and real-time pacing pattern shown in the SRS documentation. Configure SRS to forward the resulting feed to the YouTube server URL and stream key from Live Control Room.

The SRS stable 6.0 getting-started guide includes a Docker server example and an FFmpeg publisher example using -stream_loop -1 and -re. Its example endpoint is for SRS, not YouTube; do not substitute it for YouTube’s ingest address. Follow the guide’s server and publishing steps, then configure the relay destination separately: SRS v6 Docker getting started.

  • Benefit: SRS gives you a self-hosted RTMP endpoint between your encoder and destination.
  • Trade-off: It adds a server process and host to configure and maintain. The cited setup instructions do not establish a particular hardware requirement or cost.
  • When not to add it: If FFmpeg can publish directly to YouTube and you do not need a relay, the direct route has fewer moving parts.

Plan event duration, archives, and content eligibility

YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is not a promise that a loop will run indefinitely, nor does it remove the need to manage event duration and archive handling. Decide how long the event should run and monitor it rather than treating a file loop as a guaranteed perpetual broadcast.

Looping a video technically does not establish that the channel is eligible for monetization or that repetitive programming meets YouTube’s applicable policies. Rights to the Hindi video, soundtrack, and images are separate from the encoder setup. Check the current policies and your channel’s status before relying on a stream for monetization.

Troubleshoot common failures

Symptom Likely cause What to check
FFmpeg reads the file but YouTube does not receive a feed. Wrong server URL or stream key, or a connection problem. Copy the current endpoint and key from the selected event; check FFmpeg’s connection errors and use the exact RTMPS address if that is the endpoint selected.
The video plays once and stops. The command is paced but not looping, or the loop option is unsupported or misplaced. Remember that -re only paces input. Check loop syntax for the installed build and place input options before the matching -i.
The file loops locally but YouTube preview is absent. The encoder has not connected to the event’s actual ingest endpoint, or output options are unsuitable. Verify endpoint, key, output format, and the event’s current stream settings; inspect FFmpeg output and the Live Control Room preview.
There is no sound, or audio is wrong. The file’s audio stream or chosen output handling may not match the output configuration. Inspect the source streams and FFmpeg messages, then use output settings compatible with the source and current YouTube requirements.
The scheduled stream is not publicly live yet. The encoder feed may be connected, but the event has not been started in Live Control Room. Wait for the preview, check the picture and sound, and click Go live when ready.
The SRS route works locally but not end to end. SRS may be receiving the publisher without being configured to forward to YouTube, or its host/network configuration may be wrong. Check each hop separately: FFmpeg to SRS, then SRS to YouTube’s current ingest URL and key.

Or let it run in the cloud

For an uploaded-video loop to YouTube without keeping a home computer on, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed.
