To loop a prerecorded video in one continuing YouTube Live broadcast, keep OBS connected to YouTube and enable Loop on the video’s Media Source. For a sequence of files, use an OBS VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. These controls restart playback when it ends, but they do not guarantee a frame-perfect, gapless join. To make the restart appear seamless, the media’s ending and opening must connect cleanly, and the encoder and live broadcast must remain connected.
Choose the right OBS source

OBS’s loop control repeats source playback after completion; it is not a promise that every file, codec, and playback path will join without a visible or audible pause. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.

Set up a single video to loop in OBS
- In your OBS scene, add a Media Source and select the local video file.
- In the source properties, enable Loop. This makes the file play again when playback completes.
- Keep the source and scene active, and keep OBS connected to the YouTube stream. The loop option controls the media source; it does not reconnect the encoder or keep a stopped broadcast running.
- Check Restart playback when source becomes active only if you want playback to restart when the source becomes visible in the current scene. It is different from Loop, which repeats playback after the file finishes.
Loop a playlist of videos
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. Match its architecture to OBS: OBS’s documentation says 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Add a VLC Video source in OBS and create or select the playlist in the source properties.
- Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the sequence when it reaches the end.
- Keep the scene active and the encoder connected to YouTube while the playlist runs.
For a playlist, the restart boundary is between the final item and the first item. Check that pair as carefully as you would the end and beginning of a single file.

A loop setting restarts playback; it does not edit the media. If there is a blank or frozen image, or a pause in the sound at the boundary, first inspect the source transition and the file’s ending and opening. Trim or edit the media so the last frames and audio lead naturally into the first frames and audio. Then test the actual OBS-to-YouTube path: OBS’s documentation describes looping behavior but does not certify a gapless audiovisual transition for every file or setup.

- Play the video or playlist through the intended OBS source and watch and listen across the restart.
- Correct any dead air, black frames, abrupt audio cut, or mismatch between the final and opening shots in the media itself.
- Test the complete setup in a private or unlisted live stream and inspect the viewer-side playback at the boundary.
- Make any necessary edits and test again before relying on the loop for a public broadcast.
Keep the broadcast running; do not confuse it with a loop
A source loop repeats prerecorded media inside a broadcast that is still running. A stream interruption is different: it means the encoder feed or live broadcast has stopped. YouTube’s live stream settings describe the stream key and stream URL used to connect an encoder. The loop option does not maintain that connection or restart a stopped broadcast.
YouTube’s latency settings affect delivery and playback buffering, not where the media’s ending meets its beginning. Changing latency is therefore not a fix for a loop seam.

Looping is not Live Redirect or DVR
Live Redirect
YouTube Live Redirect hands viewers off after a live stream ends to a Premiere or another live stream. It is not a way to hide the restart point inside one continuous broadcast: YouTube says viewers may need to wait a few seconds while their screens reload. YouTube lists eligibility as more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes, and recommends setting up the Premiere first.

DVR
YouTube’s DVR feature lets viewers pause and rewind during a live stream, then continue from where they paused. On very long streams, rewind may be limited or unavailable, and viewers cannot seek to before the stream began. DVR affects viewer control of the live playback; it does not change how OBS loops the source.

Troubleshoot gaps and interruptions
