Before you set up the stream
Check YouTube live-stream eligibility
YouTube requires a verified channel and says the channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Set up an encoder stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room; scheduling it lets you prepare ahead of time. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.

Prepare content you have permission to use
Use original recordings or audio and visuals whose license allows public livestreaming and use in any resulting archive. YouTube may terminate live streams for copyright violations, and archived streams can receive Content ID claims. A technically successful loop does not establish that you have the rights to the material.

How to loop one meditation recording in OBS
- Create or open a scene. In OBS, choose the scene for the meditation broadcast, or create one for it.
- Add a Media Source. In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Create a new source, name it, and select the local audio or video file.
- Enable looping. Open the source properties and turn on Loop. The file will start again after playback completes. OBS documents common supported formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, MP3, AAC, WAV and OGG; availability can depend on the file and your system. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation.
- Check the picture and sound. Confirm the visual fits the canvas as intended, then listen for an audible start, end or gap when the recording repeats. Check that OBS’s audio meter moves during playback and that the level is clear without clipping.
How to loop a playlist of meditation files
- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. For 64-bit OBS, OBS specifies 64-bit VLC.
- Add a VLC Video source. In the scene’s Sources panel, select +, choose VLC Video, and add the files in the sequence you want them played.
- Enable Loop Playlist. Check the source properties and make sure Loop Playlist is on. OBS documents this setting as on by default, but verify it rather than relying on the default.
- Preview the whole sequence. Check file order, transitions, audio levels and whether the final item returns to the first as expected. OBS’s source options are described in its Media Sources documentation.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream. If you want to prepare in advance, schedule it.
- Configure OBS streaming. In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube or YouTube RTMPS if offered, then connect your account or enter the stream URL and key shown in YouTube Studio. Interface labels may vary by OBS version.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not share it publicly. If it is exposed, a channel owner or manager can reset it in YouTube Studio. YouTube explains stream keys in its encoder setup guidance.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Select Start Streaming in OBS. Wait for the feed to appear in YouTube’s Live Control Room, then check the preview and stream health before selecting Go live where applicable. YouTube’s setup and ending guidance is at Set up your encoder.
Choose OBS settings the connection can sustain
For a basic SDR stream, YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies RTMP or RTMPS, H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds; frame rates up to 60 fps are supported. These are platform settings, not a guarantee that a particular computer or connection can maintain them.
For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube lists 5 Mbps as the minimum and 14 Mbps as the recommended bitrate. If your upload connection cannot sustain the selected setting, lower the resolution or bitrate. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends reserving 20% of upload capacity. Run an upload test and leave that headroom instead of setting OBS to use the entire measured rate. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrates and YouTube’s streaming tips.

Test the stream before leaving it unattended
- Run the playlist through at least one complete cycle and listen for silence, abrupt cuts, unwanted gaps or volume changes.
- Test the same scene, audio and output settings you intend to use live. Confirm YouTube receives both video and sound.
- Start OBS early enough to check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before the planned broadcast.
- For an overnight session, rehearse for as long as practical. Keep in mind that a PC, OBS process, file or network connection can fail; there is no guarantee that an individual setup will run without interruption.
- Have a way to notice a stopped encoder or dropped connection and restart the stream if needed.
End the broadcast and understand archiving
When the session is over, end the event using the Live Control Room controls where applicable, then stop the encoder in OBS. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a longer broadcast will be archived; if retaining a replay matters, plan around YouTube’s stated limit and confirm the archive after ending.

Troubleshooting a looping meditation stream
- The recording stops instead of restarting: Reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For several files, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source.
- The VLC Video source is missing or does not play: Install VLC. If OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC, as OBS specifies.
- YouTube receives no feed: Check that OBS is streaming, the correct stream URL and key are entered, and the key has not been reset. Wait for the Live Control Room preview before going live.
- The feed buffers or loses health: Check available upload capacity and reduce the OBS bitrate or resolution if necessary. YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom; a wired connection may help with an unreliable local Wi-Fi link but cannot increase the capacity of your internet service.
- The video appears but sound is missing or distorted: Check the selected file and OBS audio meter, then listen to the stream preview. Recheck the recording’s audio level and the audio encoder settings.
- The stream ends during the night: Check whether the computer slept, OBS closed, the source stopped, or the connection dropped. Adjust power settings and run a longer rehearsal; a loop setting repeats media, but does not prevent device or network interruptions.
