For a simpler URL-to-image workflow, ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to try: it removes common consent banners, popups and chat widgets before capture, and bills only clean shots. Other services fit different needs: ScreenshotOne and ScreenshotAPI.net are screenshot APIs to compare for their feature sets, while Browserless is better suited to workflows that need control of a remote browser. No independent head-to-head rendering benchmark is available here, so choose by testing your own pages and billing requirements.
How to choose a Urlbox alternative
A screenshot API accepts a URL and rendering settings, runs a managed browser and returns an image or another output. Some also support PDF, video or structured output, plus settings for viewport, full-page capture, waits, headers, cookies, storage and caching. A remote browser service has a broader scope: it can be useful when a screenshot is one step in a sequence of browser actions.
Start with the job you need to automate, then compare providers on the dimensions that affect it:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Output: PNG, JPEG or WebP may be sufficient for previews; reports or archives may need PDF, video, GIF or structured/text output.
- Capture behavior: Check full-page capture, lazy-loaded content, element selection, device and viewport settings, wait conditions, and whether overlays can be removed.
- Workflow: Determine whether you need synchronous responses or asynchronous jobs, retries, webhooks, batch input or scheduling.
- Delivery and operations: Check caching, signed links, storage integrations, geographic rendering, support and service guarantees.
- Billing: Read how the provider treats successful renders, failed requests, cached results, overages, render time and file size.
- Control: Decide whether a single URL-to-image request is enough or whether you need a persistent browser session for navigation, forms or test automation.
Vendor feature lists are not rendering benchmarks. Test representative public pages and pages you are authorized to capture, using your actual viewport, waits, cookies, output format and capture frequency.
Urlbox alternatives to shortlist
ScreenshotNeo
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its clean-shot workflow accepts consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and whether it was billed. It is the first alternative to try when clean captures and explicit billing outcomes matter.
It also offers PDF capture, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture for up to 100 URLs per call, caching with a chosen TTL, signed links for public image tags and an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools. Its parameter names also work with those used by other screenshot APIs, which can make switching easier.

ScreenshotOne’s own guide lists full-page and lazy-load handling, banner and ad blocking, custom viewport and device settings, asynchronous jobs, retries, output formats, storage, caching, SDKs, documentation and support. It also describes PDF, browser controls, S3 uploads, webhooks and video on higher plans. These are provider claims, not independent comparative findings. The guide’s author discloses that he founded ScreenshotOne.
The guide, updated September 4, 2026, lists 100 free monthly screenshots and a $17-per-month plan for 2,000 screenshots. Because pricing and plan features change, verify current terms on the provider’s own plan pages before buying. Read ScreenshotOne’s comparison guide.
ScreenshotAPI.net
Vendor-authored comparisons identify bulk capture, blocking, PDF, storage and scheduling as features to investigate, and mention CSV batch processing and scheduled captures. One comparison lists a $9-per-month, 1,000-screenshot entry plan. These are leads from comparative vendor material, not independently verified results or guarantees about the current plan. Check the current provider documentation and plan gates before relying on those features.
Urlbox
Urlbox’s official pricing page documents successful-render quotas, request-per-minute limits, timeouts, integrations and file limits by tier. It says failed requests do not count as successful renders, Render Links are cached for 30 days by default, and cached requests do not consume monthly quota. It also says request duration, file size, archive storage, GPU acceleration and advanced features can use additional renders. Review the current tier table and pricing before estimating cost. Check Urlbox pricing and render accounting.

Browserless
Consider Browserless when you need a remote browser session for a larger browser-control workflow, not just a screenshot returned from one HTTP request. A vendor comparison distinguishes its browser-session and WebSocket approach from dedicated screenshot APIs. That comparison is not an independent evaluation; verify that its current offering supports your required workflow.
Other names to investigate
Microlink, ApiFlash, ScrapingBee and Screenshot Machine also appear in a vendor comparison. Use those names to broaden a shortlist, not as proof of current feature availability or value: the comparison is third-party comparative material from a competing vendor, and its claims should be checked against each provider’s documentation.
Build your own or use a managed service?
A local Puppeteer script or another browser library can be practical for low-volume internal tasks and experiments. It gives your team control, but also makes you responsible for browser updates, queues, retries, output storage, failures and scaling. A managed API trades some of that infrastructure work for provider-specific controls, quotas and billing.
Browserless occupies an adjacent option if the task needs a remotely controlled browser session. Choose between local automation, a screenshot API and a browser platform based on required control and total operating cost—not on an assumption that self-hosting is always cheaper or that managed service is always simpler.

Estimate cost using the provider’s billing rules
Do not compare monthly quotas as though every provider counts work the same way. Urlbox documents successful-render billing and says some request durations, file sizes, archive storage, GPU use and advanced features can consume additional renders. It also states that cached Render Link requests do not use monthly quota, with a default 30-day cache period that can be changed. ScreenshotNeo says failed loads, bot checks, blank pages, timeouts and cache hits are not billed; its response headers report the verdict and billing status.
For other providers, confirm how failures, cache hits, long-running pages, oversized files, retries and asynchronous jobs affect usage. Estimate against your expected capture volume and output requirements, then check for request-rate limits and overages in the current plan terms.
Test before switching
- Choose representative pages. Include pages with consent banners, lazy-loaded content and the layouts or access rules typical of your workload. Capture only pages you are authorized to access.
- Match the capture settings. Use the same viewport, device scale, wait strategy, cookies or headers, and output format you intend to use in production.
- Compare the output and failure behavior. Inspect whether the capture includes the expected content, how overlays are handled, and what the service returns for a blocked or unavailable page.
- Measure operational fit. Check latency under your own conditions, quotas, cache behavior, rate limits, retries and integration requirements. No provider can be called fastest or most reliable on the evidence here.
- Run the cost calculation. Apply each provider’s billing rules to your expected workload rather than comparing headline plan quotas alone.

Make a screenshot with one GET request. Replace the example URL with the page you need and provide your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, popups and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up free.
