To loop a prerecorded dealership walkaround on YouTube Live, play the video or playlist in an encoder such as OBS, enable its repeat setting, and connect the encoder to a YouTube stream with the stream URL and stream key. The encoder—not YouTube’s viewer-side replay control—repeats the footage. Date the recording, label it as prerecorded, and link viewers to current inventory so the broadcast does not imply that sold vehicles or old prices are still available.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel eligible to live stream: it must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days, according to YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A video file or playlist that the dealership is authorized to use, including its music and voiceover.
- An encoder—software such as OBS is enough for a simple prerecorded loop—and a stable connection and computer that can remain active for the broadcast.
- A current inventory page or contact destination to include in the stream description or on-screen graphics.
If this is the channel’s first time streaming, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Complete that step before the planned broadcast in YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

Loop a prerecorded walkaround with OBS
1. Prepare and review the footage
Use a walkaround that reflects what the dealership can currently show. Check the beginning and end for abrupt cuts, unwanted audio, and any identifying or customer information that should not be broadcast. Add a visible recording or last-updated date. If the video mentions prices, availability, or specific vehicles, establish a process to update or remove it when those details change.
Recommended Free Tools
Check that the dealership has permission to use the footage, music, and other material. YouTube requires live content to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service; those platform rules do not settle local filming permissions or dealership policy about customers, employees, license plates, or vehicles. Check the applicable permissions and policies before broadcasting.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
2. Add a single file or a playlist
- Open OBS and create or select the scene for the walkaround.
- For one video, select Sources > + > Media Source, create or choose a source, and browse to the file.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties. OBS will repeat the media file when it reaches the end.
- For a playlist, use an OBS VLC Video source, add the files in the order you want, and enable Loop Playlist. OBS requires VLC for this source; install it if the source is unavailable.
- Play the source in OBS and check the full sequence, picture, audio, and transitions before scheduling. OBS documents formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM, but a file extension alone does not guarantee that a particular system will play it correctly. See OBS’s Media Sources guide.
3. Create the YouTube stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live and create or schedule the stream. Set a title and description that make clear the footage is prerecorded and repeating; include the recording date and a link to current inventory.
- In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream details. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video for streaming; its setup uses the Live Control Room URL and key. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Treat the stream key as a credential. Do not show it on screen or share it publicly. YouTube says stream keys are like the stream’s password and address. If it is exposed, replace or regenerate it in the live settings; details are in YouTube’s live stream settings guide.
- Start streaming in OBS, then check the Live Control Room preview for the right video, framing, audio, and stream status before making the broadcast public or starting the scheduled event.
4. Monitor the loop and keep the listing current
Watch the stream after it starts and establish who will check it during operating hours. Confirm that the media source continues to repeat, the audio remains acceptable, and the inventory link works. When vehicles sell or details change, replace the footage or make the on-screen and description details unambiguous. A prerecorded loop cannot update itself to reflect a changing lot.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance is not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation or of the same archive behavior for longer streams. A long-running broadcast still depends on the encoder, computer, and network, so plan monitoring and restarts rather than treating an archive threshold as a 24/7 continuity promise.

Prerecorded loop or live camera walkaround?
| Decision | Prerecorded loop | Live camera walkaround |
|---|---|---|
| Inventory freshness | Refresh footage and overlays when stock or details change; show the recording date. | Can show vehicles present during filming, but descriptions and follow-up still need to be accurate. |
| Repeat behavior | OBS can repeat a file or playlist with Loop or Loop Playlist. | A live camera feed shows the current walk; it does not replay earlier vehicles automatically. |
| Production work | Prepare, review, and refresh footage; keep the encoder and network running. | Requires an operator or presenter, camera movement, and live monitoring. |
| Equipment | A software encoder can handle a simple file loop; YouTube also supports hardware encoders. | An encoder can work with external video and audio hardware, including more advanced multi-camera setups. |
| Viewer expectations | State that the video is prerecorded and repeating; point to current inventory. | Explain what the host will cover and how viewers can ask questions. |
YouTube documents software and hardware encoder workflows, including external video and audio equipment, in its encoder setup guide.

When a prerecorded loop is a poor fit
- The vehicles, prices, or availability change faster than the dealership can refresh the recording and overlays.
- The stream would give viewers the impression that footage is live or that every vehicle shown remains for sale.
- No one can monitor the encoder, connection, and accuracy of the information for the planned duration.
- The footage or audio rights, or permissions for people and property shown, are unclear.
If you need to show a changing inventory, a current listing link and a dated recording help, but they do not make stale footage current. Consider a live walkaround or a shorter scheduled broadcast when regular updates are not practical.

Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The video stops at the end instead of repeating. | Loop is off, or the wrong source is being used. | Open Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a VLC playlist, enable Loop Playlist and confirm the playlist contains playable files. |
| The VLC Video source is missing or will not play. | VLC is not installed or the media cannot be read by the system. | Install VLC as required for the OBS source, then test the media and playlist in OBS before going live. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed. | The stream URL or key is incorrect, or the channel is not enabled to stream. | Recheck the Live Control Room details in OBS, verify channel eligibility, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| The stream shows the wrong vehicle details. | The recording or overlay is out of date. | Update or replace the video, remove stale claims, and direct viewers to the current inventory page. |
| The picture or sound is wrong in the preview. | The selected source, scene, or audio mix is incorrect. | Review the OBS scene and source, play the full sequence locally, and verify the Live Control Room preview before starting the public broadcast. |
| The stream key may have been exposed. | The credential was shown or shared. | Replace or regenerate the key in YouTube live settings and update OBS with the new value. |

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How YouTube’s live limits affect the plan
YouTube’s current help pages say channels can have up to 10 active streams and each stream key up to 3 active streams; the channel must also meet the verification and restriction requirements noted above. These are platform limits, not a guarantee that any particular encoder can run continuously. Check YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance for the current rules. YouTube also requires live content to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
