Short answer: for a single prerecorded store-promo loop, an Intel N100 mini PC is a sensible low-power category to investigate—not a proven “best” model. Intel lists the N100 at 6 W TDP, but that is the processor specification, not the power draw of a complete PC. Compare measured whole-system power and sustained-operation behavior for the exact mini PC before buying.
A local PC gives you control over the encoder and hardware, but must stay powered and recover after interruptions. If you would rather not keep a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option for looping uploaded videos to YouTube.

What kind of PC does a nonstop store promo need?
A single prerecorded video or simple playlist is a relatively light streaming workload: the PC reads the media, encodes a live output, and sends it to YouTube. That is different from streaming several cameras, adding complex effects, using capture hardware, or recording locally at the same time. Those heavier workloads can change the hardware requirement.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

YouTube supports software encoders running on a computer as well as standalone encoding hardware. Its guidance defines supported streaming settings, but does not certify a minimum PC model for a 24/7 stream. The right machine is therefore one that can encode your chosen format reliably, stay cool under continuous use, and maintain a stable network connection.

Is an Intel N100 mini PC a good starting point?
Intel’s specifications list the N100 as a four-core, four-thread processor with a maximum turbo frequency of 3.40 GHz, Intel UHD Graphics, Quick Sync Video, and a maximum memory size of 16 GB. Intel lists its TDP as 6 W. Those are processor specifications, not measurements of a mini PC’s wall power, temperatures, noise, or reliability while streaming continuously. Check Intel’s N100 specifications.
Hardware encoding may reduce the work done by the CPU, but check that the exact PC’s graphics hardware and your chosen encoder software support the codec, resolution, and frame rate you plan to use. The N100 name alone does not establish those details for a complete system. No comparable whole-PC power measurements or specific-model nonstop YouTube Live tests are established here, so there is no defensible basis to rank named N100 machines by energy use or continuous-streaming performance.
How to choose the complete PC
Judge the whole system against the job, not the processor’s TDP in isolation. Before ordering, check the exact model’s specifications and look for measured power data and sustained-workload observations that match your intended use.

- Power: look for whole-PC idle and encoding measurements. Confirm what was connected and running during the measurements; a CPU TDP is not a substitute.
- Thermals and noise: seek evidence from a sustained workload, not just a short benchmark. A machine that gets too hot or noisy in its intended location is a poor fit for continuous operation.
- Encoder support: verify hardware encoding for your chosen codec, resolution, frame rate, and encoder software. YouTube’s supported settings are a target for configuration, not proof that a particular PC can sustain them.
- Network: prefer a dependable wired Ethernet connection when the PC supports it. If it does not, check that the available network path is stable and has enough upload capacity.
- Ports and storage: confirm the display and USB connections you need, included memory and storage, and whether they can be upgraded. External storage is useful only if you plan to keep local recordings or need more media space.
- Recovery and support: check warranty and support terms, what happens after a power loss or network interruption, and whether the PC can restart the encoder automatically. A UPS may help if brief power interruptions are a concern, but it is conditional on your outage risk and setup.
Which YouTube encoder settings should you plan around?
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP and RTMPS ingestion and the H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video codecs. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. For the listed 30 fps settings, its recommended bitrates are:
| Output | AV1 or HEVC | H.264 |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p30 | 6 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
These are YouTube recommendations for the named resolution, frame rate, and codec—not a claim that higher quality is always better for a store promo. Choose an output that suits the source footage and available upload bandwidth. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
How to set up and keep the PC stream running
- Prepare the promo: choose the prerecorded video or playlist you intend to loop. Check that the footage is yours or that you have the necessary rights; continuous availability does not grant permission to use copyrighted material.
- Check upload capacity: run an upload speed test from the location and network the PC will use. YouTube says total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Its guidance says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.”
- Configure the encoder: in your chosen encoder, select YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS destination and the stream key from your YouTube Live setup. Set a supported codec and a suitable resolution and frame rate, then configure CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. Use the bitrate guidance above as a starting point.
- Test before relying on it: start a test stream, check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and confirm the image and audio are correct. YouTube recommends allowing time to set up the encoder and monitoring quality; this reduces setup surprises but does not guarantee against outages.
- Plan for interruption: decide how the encoder will be restarted after a PC reboot, power loss, or network failure. Test recovery rather than assuming the stream will resume automatically, and monitor the live output during operation.

Common problems and what to check
- Stream health reports insufficient bandwidth: compare the configured total bitrate with actual upload capacity, leave the recommended 20% headroom, and retest from the streaming location.
- The PC runs hot, gets loud, or becomes unstable: check airflow and sustained-load evidence for the exact model. A processor’s TDP does not predict a complete PC’s temperatures or behavior.
- The stream does not resume after a disruption: check whether the encoder restarted, whether the PC has network access, and whether the YouTube stream key and destination remain configured. Test the recovery procedure during setup.
- The promo looks poor despite a high bitrate: check the source footage, selected codec, resolution, and frame rate. More bitrate cannot restore detail absent from the original video.
- The mini PC lacks a needed connection: verify Ethernet, USB, and display ports on the exact model before buying. Consider an adapter only if it suits the required connection and does not undermine network reliability.
How much power will an always-on streaming PC use?
There is no universal wattage answer for an always-on YouTube PC in the available product evidence. The N100’s 6 W figure is Intel’s processor TDP, not the wall-power consumption of a complete mini PC. To estimate energy use, find a credible measurement for the exact system in both idle and the intended encoding workload, then account for how continuously it will run and any connected equipment. Without those measurements, a precise power-cost estimate would be guesswork.
