To locate a lost Android phone, open the Find Hub app on another Android device or visit android.com/find. Sign in with the Google Account associated with the missing phone, select it, then check its location and available actions. You may be able to ring it, mark it as lost, or erase it; what Find Hub can do depends on the phone’s power, connection, account, and settings.
Find your phone with the app or a browser
- Open Find Hub. On another Android phone or tablet, open the Find Hub app. If you do not have another Android device, go to android.com/find in a browser.
- Sign in with the right Google Account. Use the account associated with the missing phone. If you are helping someone else, Google says the owner can sign in on your device using guest mode.
- Select the missing phone. Choose it from the device list and review the map and controls. Google notes that selecting the phone may trigger a notification on it.
- Choose the next action. If the phone may be nearby, try Find nearby if it is offered, or make it ring. If recovery is uncertain, consider the available secure-device action or Mark as lost before deciding whether to erase it.
Find nearby may be offered when the phone is within 10 metres, according to Google. Ringing is useful only if the phone is close enough for you to hear it.

What the location means—and how accurate it may be
A map result may be a current location, a recent stored location, or a location supplied through the Find Hub network. If the phone is offline, a displayed position may be its last stored location rather than a live fix.
Recommended Free Tools
- GPS: Google estimates around 20 metres, but GPS can be inaccurate indoors or underground.
- Nearby Wi-Fi: Nearby networks can help estimate location.
- Mobile towers: The estimate may be off by a few thousand metres.
These are general estimates in Google’s help material, not a guarantee for a particular phone or situation. A location pin should be treated as an area to check, not proof that the device is at an exact spot.

Can Find Hub locate a phone that is offline or switched off?
Sometimes. A phone without a live connection may still have a recent stored location available. It may also be discoverable through the crowdsourced Find Hub network if the relevant settings and conditions were enabled before it went missing. Google describes the network as using end-to-end encrypted location information; a PIN, pattern, or password is required for network assistance.
Google’s offline settings distinguish between disabling offline finding, using stored recent locations without the network, and allowing network finding in busy areas or everywhere. The option selected beforehand affects what can be found. Google also says some supported phones, including the Pixel 8 series, can be located for several hours after powering off if the required network option was selected and Bluetooth and Location were on when the phone shut down. This capability is not available on every Android phone.

For remote securing or erasing, Google lists these conditions: the device has power, is connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data, is signed in to a Google Account, has Find Hub turned on, and is visible on Google Play. If the phone does not meet them, remote actions may not be available even if a recent or network location appears.

Mark it as lost or secure it
If you still hope to recover the phone, use Mark as lost or the secure-device action available in Find Hub. This is the more recovery-friendly choice: it lets you protect access without deliberately removing the phone’s location from Find Hub.

Erase it only when data protection takes priority
Factory reset permanently deletes data on the device, may not delete data on an SD card, and makes the phone’s location unavailable in Find Hub. If you recover the phone after erasing it, Google says you will need the Google Account password to use it again. Erasing is therefore a last resort when protecting the data matters more than continuing to track the phone.
If the phone does not appear or Find Hub cannot locate it
- Check that you signed in with the Google Account associated with the missing phone and selected the correct device.
- If the phone appears but has no current location, it may be offline or location data may not be available. A recent stored location or network finding is possible only when the necessary settings and conditions were in place.
- If a sign-in verification prompt blocks access, use Google’s guidance for account verification and offline settings. Do not assume verification can always be bypassed.
- Remember that Google says the most recent location is available to the first account activated on the device. On Android 9 or higher, Find Hub may ask for the phone’s lock-screen PIN; on a phone without a PIN or running Android 8 or lower, it may ask for the Google password.
Google’s troubleshooting guidance is available at Find, secure or erase a lost Android device and its readiness guide at Be ready to find a lost Android device.
