If Steam appears linked to the wrong EA Account, check the existing connection and try to recover that account before unlinking: unlinking can affect access to progress, purchases, and other content.
Link your EA Account to Steam
EA says you generally link the accounts the first time you play an EA game on Steam. Use the EA Account you intend to keep long-term; the account connection can affect progress and entitlements.

- Sign in to your EA Account on EA’s website.
- Open Connected Accounts.
- Select Steam, then select Continue.
- Sign in to the Steam account you want to connect and complete the prompts.
- Check Connected Accounts to confirm the connection. Steam installs the game and notifies you when it is ready.
Alternatively, launch the EA game from Steam and complete the linking prompt shown the first time you play. Sign in with the intended EA Account, then verify the connection in Connected Accounts. See EA’s account-linking instructions.
Fix common EA and Steam linking problems
Steam is linked to another EA Account
Sign in to each EA Account you can access and inspect Connected Accounts to identify where Steam is linked. If the existing EA Account is yours but you cannot access it, use EA’s account recovery guidance before considering an unlink. Linking Steam to a different EA Account does not transfer the first account’s games or persona.

EA says the account is invalid or ineligible
EA recommends resetting the EA Account password. Then confirm which EA Account and Steam account are involved before trying the linking flow again. If the error persists, consult EA’s troubleshooting guidance.
You cannot switch to a different EA Account
EA’s current help guidance says platform accounts may be switched up to three times in a rolling year. Its linking troubleshooting also says a link made less than a year ago may not be eligible for unlinking and relinking. These are policy guidelines, not a guarantee that a specific account can be switched: eligibility depends on account circumstances and EA’s current rules. Check the account-specific guidance or contact EA Help before taking action.

The unlink option is unavailable
EA says a disabled, banned, or suspended account cannot unlink its platform account. Resolve the account access or account-action issue through EA rather than using a third-party workaround. EA also warns users not to share passwords, verification codes, or passkeys.

You no longer control the EA Account email
Try signing in to the EA Account from a computer or mobile device. EA may require a password reset or a two-factor authentication code. If you cannot access the account email or complete verification, follow EA’s recovery and official support routes. Do not give credentials or verification codes to anyone claiming they can recover the account for you.

Your game progress is missing
Check that you are using the correct Steam account and that it is connected to the EA Account that holds your progress. EA says progress may become available after relinking to the original EA Account if you can still access it; recovery is not assured if that account is inaccessible. Unlinking is not a routine login fix. EA warns it can remove access to game progress, DLC and expansions, memberships and subscriptions, previous drops and rewards, and in-game purchases. For Steam specifically, entitlements such as rewards, points, and items remain on the EA Account to which Steam was first linked. Players cannot move games or personas themselves; users seeking an account merge should contact EA support.

EA advises: “Always link to an account you’ll keep long-term to preserve your progress and purchases.” Read EA’s unlinking guidance and linking troubleshooting page before changing the connection.

Choose recovery or unlinking
- Recover first when the old EA Account is yours but inaccessible. This gives you the best chance of using the original account connection and its associated progress and entitlements.
- Consider unlinking only after checking the consequences and eligibility. The switch limit, account status, and connection history may prevent relinking, and content tied to the original EA Account may not move.
- Contact EA Help if recovery fails, the account is restricted, or you need help with a possible account merge. Never share credentials or security codes with helpers.
