1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsA practical way to learn C++ and data structures and algorithms (DSA) is to build programming fundamentals first, then study core structures and algorithms while writing programs and solving problems. There is no single required roadmap: university courses sequence topics differently, so use your own course syllabus and current fluency to decide what comes next.
Start with C++ fundamentals
Before tackling a broad set of data structures, get comfortable reading and writing small programs. A useful foundation includes data types, assignment, input and output, conditionals, loops, and functions. Add classes and methods as you learn to organize code, and practice tracing how values change as a program runs.

The University of Bologna’s 2026/2027 programming course outline brings together these basics with recursion, vectors, memory allocation, dynamic structures, and object-oriented topics such as overloading and inheritance. It is an example of a university course, not a universal prerequisite list. See the University of Bologna course catalog.

Once you can write and understand basic C++ programs, begin learning structures and the algorithms that operate on them. A representative sequence appears in UCLA’s Winter 2026 CS 32 syllabus. It starts with a C++ review and data abstraction, then covers pointers and resource management, lists, stacks and queues, recursion, templates and the Standard Template Library (STL), efficiency and sorting, trees, hash tables, heaps, and graphs.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That sequence is one course’s design, not a rule that every student must follow exactly. For example, UCLA places inheritance and polymorphism among its topics, while another course may arrange object-oriented material differently. Use the syllabus for your own course as the local guide, especially when it lists prerequisites or introduces topics in a particular order. Read the UCLA CS 32 syllabus.
Connect each structure to code
For each new idea, write a small program that makes the structure or algorithm visible. A linked list, for example, becomes easier to reason about when you can follow how nodes are connected and how an insertion changes those connections. When studying a library structure, learn how to use it as well as what problem it solves; later, implementing a simple version can clarify what the library is handling for you.

Learn efficiency alongside problem solving
Do not leave algorithm analysis until after you have learned every structure. UCLA includes efficiency and sorting before its later structures, and Stanford’s CS106B syllabus includes algorithm analysis alongside recursion, data abstraction, and classic structures and algorithms. Learning to compare approaches helps explain why two programs that produce the same result may behave differently as input grows.
Stanford also emphasizes applying these concepts to problems. The point is not only to memorize definitions: practice recognizing which idea fits a problem, implementing it, and checking whether your solution works. See Stanford CS106B’s syllabus.

Make practice part of the learning sequence
Pair conceptual study with programming exercises as you go. After learning a topic, try a small implementation or use the relevant C++ facility in a short program; then solve problems that require you to choose and apply that idea. The Bologna course description includes written programming exercises and a project, while Stanford describes practice applying techniques to problems. Together, these course examples support a study pattern built around both implementation and application.
- After learning a language feature, write a compact program that uses it.
- After studying a data structure, practice operations or problems that depend on its properties.
- When a solution fails, trace the program and identify whether the issue is in your understanding, implementation, or choice of approach.
These sources do not establish a best number of problems per day, hours per week, or a guaranteed finish date. Set a pace that fits your classes and revisit topics when you cannot explain or use them confidently.

Use references and course materials purposefully
A structured course or book can give you an ordered path; a language reference is better for answering a focused question about syntax or a standard-library feature. Illinois CS 225 points students to cppreference for C++ and library documentation. Treat that kind of reference as a companion to learning and practice, rather than a substitute for them. See the Illinois CS 225 syllabus.

If you prefer a physical textbook, Pearson’s Introduction to C++ Programming and Data Structures, fifth edition, by Y. Daniel Liang is described by its publisher as a fundamentals-first, problem-driven introduction intended for introductory computer science courses. UCLA also lists C++ data-structures books as textbook options. A book is one possible source of structure, not a required purchase. View Pearson’s catalog entry.
Should you learn OOP before DSA?
You do not need to treat object-oriented programming (OOP) and DSA as a rigid either-or sequence. The course examples include object-oriented topics and data structures, but they arrange them differently. Build enough C++ fluency to understand classes and use them where they help, then follow your course’s progression while continuing to learn and apply DSA. If your course expects a specific prerequisite, follow that requirement rather than a generic roadmap.
