To launch OBS with the saved settings for a YouTube loop, select a Profile for stream, video, and output settings and a Scene Collection for scenes and sources, then start OBS with both launch parameters. For example, on a Windows-style installation:
obs64.exe --profile "YouTube Loop" --collection "Loop Scenes" --scene "Loop" --startstreamingThis is an illustrative command, not a verified command for every installation. The executable name and path vary by operating system and installation. The flags choose saved configurations and, if included, start streaming; they do not by themselves confirm that media is playing or that a YouTube broadcast is eligible to run continuously.

What the saved Profile and Scene Collection control
OBS keeps these settings in separate places. A Profile stores most stream, video, and output settings, including the stream destination or connected account and video resolutions. A Scene Collection stores scenes, sources, and Global Audio Sources. It does not store output settings, and a Profile does not store scenes. OBS summarizes the distinction in its Profiles and Scene Collections documentation.

OBS documents launch parameters for automation and portable use on its Launch Parameters page. The page is dated 2021-05-30; check the current OBS documentation if behavior differs in your installed release.

Prepare the saved configurations and loop source
- Create or select a Profile. In OBS, open Profile and choose the intended saved Profile, or create one. Set the stream destination/account and the video and output options you intend to use. Profiles can be duplicated and exported for backup.
- Create or select a Scene Collection. Open Scene Collection and choose the collection that contains the intended loop scene, or create a collection and add a scene.
- Add the video or playlist. For a single local file, add a Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop. The Media Source documentation says Loop is off by default; see Media Sources.
- For a playlist, use VLC Video. VLC Video provides Loop Playlist, on by default, and requires VLC to be installed. Match VLC’s bitness to OBS: 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC. The two options differ by input shape and dependency, not by which saved configuration they use.
- Check the exact names. Use the Profile, Scene Collection, and scene names as they appear in OBS. Names with spaces need quotation marks in the command.
Launch OBS with the saved Profile and Collection
The command-line switches are --profile "name" to select a Profile, --collection "name" to select a Scene Collection, --scene "name" to select a scene, and --startstreaming to begin streaming. The scene flag is optional if the desired scene is already selected. The streaming flag is optional and should be included only when you intend an automatic start.
obs64.exe --profile "YouTube Loop" --collection "Loop Scenes" --scene "Loop" --startstreamingReplace the example names and executable location with those for your system. The invocation is an illustrative Windows-style pattern, not a tested command or a guarantee that a particular OBS installation will launch successfully.

Windows shortcut or scheduled launch
For a shortcut, make a copy of the OBS shortcut and append the parameters after obs64.exe in the shortcut’s Target field. For a scheduled or automated launch, set Start in to the folder containing obs64.exe. The executable path and filename may differ on your system. OBS notes that --version is unavailable on Windows, so do not use that switch as a Windows version check.

open -a "OBS" --args --profile "YouTube Loop" --collection "Loop Scenes" --scene "Loop" --startstreamingThe same form can be used in an Automator Run Shell Script action. Confirm the installed app name and the exact argument names against OBS’s launch documentation if your setup differs.
Verify the stream before relying on automation
A successful OBS launch is not proof of a working live broadcast. Before depending on an unattended run, check the OBS preview, confirm the intended scene and media playback, listen for audio, and manually verify that YouTube reports the stream as live. The launch flags and loop controls do not establish YouTube scheduling, continuous-stream eligibility, or policy compliance.

YouTube requirements can change and may depend on the channel and content. Check the current YouTube rules for live streaming, copyright, and reused content before leaving a repeated video live. The OBS documentation cited here does not establish current YouTube limits or whether a particular loop qualifies.

Portable mode is not required to select a saved Profile and Scene Collection. It loads OBS configuration from beside the application, but does not make the media files referenced by a Scene Collection portable. Moving the OBS folder without moving or relinking its media can leave sources unavailable. OBS says portable mode is unsupported on macOS and Linux; see Running in Portable Mode.

Troubleshoot common launch and loop problems
- OBS opens with the wrong settings: check the spelling and quotation marks in
--profileand--collection, and confirm those names in OBS. These are separate selections; specifying only one does not choose the other. - The wrong scene appears: check the Scene Collection first, then add
--scene "Exact Scene Name"if needed. Confirm that the scene exists in the selected collection. - The video stops at the end: for a single file, open its Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, check Loop Playlist in VLC Video and confirm VLC is installed with matching bitness.
- The media source is missing: check that the local file still exists at the path saved in the source. Portable mode does not package scene media files.
- The scheduled Windows launch fails or starts unpredictably: verify the executable path and set the task’s Start in directory to the folder containing
obs64.exe. - OBS launches but YouTube is not live: inspect the selected Profile’s stream destination/account, the OBS stream status, media playback, and audio. Do not treat
--startstreamingas proof that YouTube accepted or kept the broadcast live.
