Open Settings → Connections → Mobile Hotspot and Tethering → Mobile Hotspot → Advanced, turn on Wi-Fi Sharing, then switch on Mobile Hotspot. The exact menu and availability vary by carrier, model, and software version.
What Wi-Fi Sharing does
Samsung says Mobile Hotspot disables Wi-Fi by default. On supported Galaxy setups, Wi-Fi Sharing is an additional Advanced option that lets the phone share the Wi-Fi connection it is already using with other devices. That can let a guest connect through your phone without giving them the original Wi-Fi password. This is different from a standard mobile-data hotspot, which shares the phone’s cellular connection. Your carrier may limit tethering or charge extra for mobile-data use. Android Help explains carrier limits and tethering. Samsung’s Auto Hotspot is also a separate convenience feature for eligible devices signed in to the same Samsung account or family group; it is not the Wi-Fi Sharing setting.
Turn on Wi-Fi Sharing

Open Settings → Connections → Mobile Hotspot and Tethering.

Tap Mobile Hotspot to open its settings. Do not only tap the on/off switch.

Open Advanced and turn on Wi-Fi Sharing. Depending on the phone’s software, Advanced may appear after opening or editing the hotspot details.

If the phone displays a Save button, tap it.

Turn on Mobile Hotspot, then connect the other device to the hotspot network shown on your phone.

Samsung notes that available hotspot options can vary by carrier, phone model, and software version. If Wi-Fi Sharing is missing, check the hotspot details or configuration page and consult the manual for your exact model rather than assuming every Galaxy exposes the same control. A work-managed phone may also have Wi-Fi sharing blocked by an administrator policy; Samsung Knox documents device controls that administrators can configure.

If the other device cannot find the hotspot
First confirm Mobile Hotspot is on and check the network name shown in its settings. If the network still does not appear, try these settings:

Change the band to 2.4 GHz. Samsung says 2.4 GHz is compatible with more devices; 5 GHz offers better performance. An older or less compatible client may not detect a 5 GHz hotspot.

Turn off Hidden network. Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series EU manual, dated April 17, 2024, recommends switching to 2.4 GHz and disabling Hidden network when a hotspot cannot be found. Menu labels may differ on other models.

If Wi-Fi switches off or Wi-Fi Sharing is unavailable
If enabling Mobile Hotspot turns Wi-Fi off, return to the hotspot’s Advanced settings and check that Wi-Fi Sharing is enabled. If the control is not there, availability can depend on the carrier, model, or software version. On a managed device, ask the administrator whether a policy blocks Wi-Fi sharing. Samsung presents this as a supported configuration option on eligible setups; the cited instructions do not require buying extra hardware or resetting network settings.

Manage hotspot use and battery
Samsung provides a hotspot timeout setting that can turn the hotspot off when no device is connected. Android Help recommends turning tethering off when you are finished to extend battery life. These are optional ways to manage hotspot use; neither is required to enable Wi-Fi Sharing.
