Windows can reopen Streamlabs Desktop when you sign in, but that does not mean it will automatically resume your previous live broadcast. Set Windows update restarts for a safer time, enable Streamlabs to launch at sign-in, and check the scene, audio, destination, and live status yourself before relying on the stream.
Before an update: reduce the chance of an interruption
Windows may need to restart to finish installing an update. Set active hours around the times you normally use the PC, or schedule a required restart for a convenient time. These options help manage when an automatic restart occurs; they do not keep Streamlabs live while Windows restarts. Microsoft’s Windows Update FAQ explains restart scheduling and active hours.

Set active hours or schedule the restart
- Open Windows Update settings and look for the active-hours or restart-scheduling options available on your Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC.
- Set active hours to cover your usual streaming period, or schedule a required restart for a time when the stream can be offline.
- Before streaming, check whether Windows has a pending restart for an update and plan around it.
Windows labels and available options can vary by version and update state. Microsoft does not recommend removing installed updates as a routine way to avoid interruptions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesMake Streamlabs Desktop open after Windows signs in
Windows startup settings launch an app at sign-in; they do not restore a Streamlabs live session. Microsoft documents two places to check: Settings and Task Manager. Configure Startup applications in Windows covers these options and the Startup folder.

Enable it in Settings or Task Manager
- Open Settings > Apps > Startup.
- If Streamlabs Desktop appears in the app list, turn it on.
- If it is not listed, open Task Manager > Startup apps and check whether you can enable it there.
If Streamlabs is not listed
Microsoft documents using the Startup folder to start an app at sign-in. Add a shortcut for Streamlabs Desktop there if you want Windows to open it automatically. This still starts only the application; it is not a setting for automatically going live or restoring the previous broadcast.
After Windows restarts: check Streamlabs before relying on it
Once Windows has restarted and you have signed in, open Streamlabs Desktop if it did not open by itself. Confirm the stream is configured correctly before going live again:

Do not assume that enabling app startup resumes a broadcast. Windows’ startup guidance describes opening apps at sign-in, not restoring a live Streamlabs session.

If Streamlabs Desktop will not launch or crashes

- Update Windows and graphics drivers. Install available Windows updates and check for a current graphics driver from the relevant manufacturer.
- Repair the Visual C++ redistributables. Streamlabs identifies these runtimes as a troubleshooting step for launch or crash problems.
- Try administrator access. Run the installer or app as administrator when appropriate, then test whether it opens.
- Check security software. Confirm your firewall or antivirus is not blocking Streamlabs; allow it only through security settings you trust.
- Reinstall if the earlier checks fail. Follow Streamlabs’ troubleshooting guidance and preserve any configuration you need before making changes.
If Streamlabs keeps looking like a fresh install
If Streamlabs repeatedly behaves as though it is launching for the first time, Streamlabs Support says leftover background processes may be the cause. Its article, “Streamlabs Desktop – Launching like it is the first time using it,” dated August 16, 2026, recommends closing the app and ending lingering processes before reopening it.
- Close Streamlabs Desktop.
- Open Task Manager and look for lingering Streamlabs, Electron, OBS, or crash-handler processes.
- End the relevant leftover processes, then reopen Streamlabs Desktop.
- Check whether your normal configuration appears before attempting to stream.
Keep cache clearing as a last resort
Streamlabs Support says Clear Cache and Restart wipes user data and starts the app clean. Do not use it as an early troubleshooting step. First preserve settings or configuration you may need, and try the less destructive process cleanup above. See Streamlabs’ getting-started guidance for its cache-reset warning.

- Nothing has to stay on at home.
- Uploaded video streams at its original quality, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required.
