To keep cookie banners and pop-ups out of a SingleFile archive, use SingleFile’s HTML content > remove specific elements option and enter CSS selectors for the elements you want excluded. For a one-off cleanup, use the selection workflow instead. SingleFileZ’s official repository says it “has been completely merged into SingleFile,” so current instructions should follow SingleFile’s documentation, even if you still have a SingleFileZ installation or see its Firefox listing.
Use CSS selectors for repeatable cleanup

Open SingleFile’s options and find HTML content > remove specific elements. The option removes elements matched by CSS selectors.

Find the banner or pop-up container on the actual site. Use your browser’s developer tools to inspect the page, or use SingleFile’s selection workflow to identify an element you can point to.

Enter the site-specific selector or selectors in the option. Separate multiple selectors with commas. The official documentation does not establish a universal selector for cookie banners, so do not assume a generic selector will work across sites.

Save the page and inspect the archive. Confirm the overlay is gone and that the main page content, images, and any interactive elements you need remain.

Be precise: a selector that matches too broadly can remove article content, navigation, or unrelated dialogs. Selectors also depend on a site’s markup, which can change over time.
Remove an element once without maintaining a selector
For a single page, use SingleFile’s selector-assisted Save Selection interaction. Invoke it without first selecting content, then hover over and choose the element you want to keep or remove as offered by the extension’s workflow. Check the resulting saved page before treating it as a clean archive. The exact controls may vary by installed version, so consult the current help if the labels differ.

Choose the method that fits the job

Use a pre-capture user script for advanced cases
SingleFile’s official wiki documents a user-script mechanism that runs before capture and demonstrates replacing matched elements before saving. This can suit recurring, site-specific cleanup when selectors alone are not enough. Treat it as an advanced SingleFile workflow: check the documentation for your current version rather than assuming a legacy SingleFileZ build has the same controls.
Why “remove hidden elements” is not the same thing
SingleFile’s hidden-element option is documented for removing hidden elements. It is not an automatic detector or guaranteed remover for a visible cookie banner. For visible overlays, use an explicit selector or the editor’s selection workflow, then inspect the archive.
Troubleshoot a banner that remains

The selector did not match: inspect the banner on the live page and check that your selector identifies its container, not just text inside it. The selector must match the target site’s actual markup.

The selector removes too much: narrow it to the specific overlay container and check the saved article, navigation, images, and dialogs.

The visible banner is still present: do not rely on hidden-element cleanup for visible overlays. Try the explicit selector or selection workflow.

The option label is different or missing: SingleFileZ has been merged into SingleFile, and controls can change across versions. Check the installed extension’s options and the current SingleFile help.

A rule used to work but no longer does: the site may have changed its markup. Inspect it again and update the site-specific selector or script.
