How to Move SingleFileZ Settings to Another Browser

SingleFileZ settings are meant to be imported into its successor, SingleFile. Use the destination extension’s options help, then review and test the imported configuration.

SingleFileZ was merged into SingleFile, so the documented route is to import your existing SingleFileZ settings into the successor extension—not to rely on a browser’s general data-import feature. Install or open SingleFile in the browser where you want the settings, then use its options page and the import guidance provided there. Because the public project documentation does not specify stable control labels or guarantee that every setting maps identically, inspect the imported options and test a saved page.

What happens to SingleFileZ settings?

The SingleFileZ project README says, “SingleFileZ has been completely merged into SingleFile.” It adds: “Alternatively, you can simply import your existing settings in SingleFile.” That makes SingleFile the destination for this migration. The statement documents importing the old extension’s settings into its successor; it does not establish a universal export-and-import process between arbitrary browsers or profiles. Mozilla’s listing identifies SingleFileZ as a Firefox add-on and lists version 1.4.45, last updated February 15, 2024. Those are listing details, not a promise about current availability or compatibility in every browser. Mozilla Add-ons: SingleFileZ

Import the settings into SingleFile

  1. Keep access to the old setup. Do not uninstall SingleFileZ, delete its browser profile, or clear extension data before attempting the migration. This is a precaution in case you need to refer back to the original configuration.
  2. Install or open SingleFile in the destination browser. SingleFile’s project README lists Chrome, Firefox (desktop and mobile), Microsoft Edge, Safari, Vivaldi, Brave, Waterfox, Yandex Browser, and Opera as compatible browsers. Availability and installation steps depend on the browser; use the project’s listed browser-store links. SingleFile README
  3. Open SingleFile’s extension options page. Follow the settings-import instructions in the options page’s own help. The maintainer confirms that existing SingleFileZ settings can be imported there, but the public README does not give a stable sequence of buttons or menus. Labels and availability may differ by browser or extension version, so use the current in-page guidance rather than looking for a particular named button.
  4. Review the imported configuration. Check the options you rely on before using SingleFile for important saves. The available documentation does not provide a per-setting compatibility matrix, so do not assume every old value has a direct equivalent.
  5. Make a small test save. Save a representative page and open the resulting file to confirm the settings that matter to you behave as expected. This is a verification step, not a specific procedure prescribed by the maintainers.

Why browser data import may not move the extension settings

Browser-native migration generally refers to browser data such as bookmarks or history; the SingleFileZ migration statement instead directs users to import the existing settings within SingleFile. The reviewed project documentation does not say that importing data through Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or another browser automatically transfers SingleFileZ preferences. Treat extension settings as a separate migration unless the destination extension’s own help confirms otherwise.

SingleFileZ’s FAQ says its storage permission allows it to store settings. It also says SingleFileZ does not upload data to third-party servers. That privacy statement applies to SingleFileZ as described in its FAQ; it is not a general claim about every extension or browser migration process. SingleFileZ FAQ

If the import does not work

  • No import guidance appears: Confirm you opened SingleFile’s options page rather than the browser’s general settings. Check the extension’s current in-page help; the public README does not establish that all platforms expose identical controls.
  • The source settings are unavailable: Return to the original browser profile where SingleFileZ was installed. Avoid clearing its extension data or removing the extension until you have checked whether the original configuration remains accessible.
  • Some options differ after import: Compare the destination options with the settings you can still inspect in the source setup. The sources do not guarantee one-to-one transfer for every option, so adjust the destination manually where needed and verify with a test save.
  • You changed profiles or reinstalled before importing: Preserve the old browser profile and extension data if possible, and avoid further cleanup until you have checked the source profile. This is a conservative recovery suggestion; the official materials reviewed do not describe a recovery procedure.
