Podcast episode metadata and YouTube live-stream metadata are separate. YouTube treats a podcast as a playlist and each episode as a video; a live stream has its own title, description, settings, and stream key. If RSS supplies your episode details, keep the feed as the source of truth and avoid editing that episode’s details in Studio if you want future RSS updates to continue. Reusing a live stream copies settings from another stream—it does not import podcast metadata. After a live event, review its archive and add it to the podcast playlist only if it is a full episode.
How YouTube connects podcasts, episodes, and live streams
- Podcast: A YouTube podcast is a playlist with its own title, description, visibility, thumbnail, and episode order.
- Episode: Each episode is a video with its own title, description, and other video details.
- Live stream: A live event has separate stream metadata and settings. You can reuse settings from a previous stream, but that is stream-to-stream copying, not RSS-to-live synchronization.
Putting a live archive into a playlist organizes it; the official YouTube guidance described here does not say playlist membership automatically copies or synchronizes RSS episode metadata onto the archive.

Choose the source of truth for episode details
If your show already uses RSS
Correct the episode title, description, and release date in the feed before YouTube ingests it. YouTube can create videos from selected feed episodes and automatically upload new episodes. RSS ingestion is available only in select countries or regions, so check availability for your account and location in YouTube Studio.
Keep editing RSS-managed episode details in the feed if you want the feed to remain authoritative. YouTube Help says: “If you change episode details in YouTube Studio, we’ll block future edits to that episode made within your RSS feed.” This rule concerns episode details; podcast-level settings remain editable in Studio.

If the live archive will be a podcast episode
Decide whether the stream recording is a full-length episode that belongs in the show. If it is, review the archive’s video details after the event, then add that existing video to the podcast playlist. If it is a live event, bonus stream, clip, or other material, keep it in a regular live-events playlist instead. YouTube recommends that a podcast playlist contain full-length episodes, not clips, different shows, or videos from other channels.
Set up the live stream without relying on RSS metadata
- Create or schedule the stream in YouTube Studio. Enter the live event’s own title and description; do not assume the podcast feed filled them in.
- Reuse a prior stream only when its settings are appropriate. YouTube Help states: “The new stream will copy the previous stream’s metadata, settings, and the stream key.” Review the copied title, description, and settings for the new event. The copied stream key is part of stream reuse, not a link to the podcast feed.
- After the event, check the archive. YouTube says archives are uploaded by default after events. Confirm that the video exists and inspect its title, description, visibility, and other details rather than treating playlist placement as a metadata update.
- Place the archive deliberately. Add a full episode to the podcast playlist and verify its position. Put other streams in a regular archive playlist, whose title, description, visibility, and ordering can be managed in Studio.
Keep dates and episode order consistent
For RSS-uploaded episodes, YouTube says playlist order uses the RSS release date when present, otherwise the YouTube publish date. YouTube does not verify the RSS release date. Some YouTube surfaces show the feed release date while others show the YouTube publish date; changing a release date in Studio does not change the date in the RSS feed.

YouTube’s playlist guidance lists a maximum of 150 characters for a playlist title and 5,000 characters for its description. These are playlist-level limits, not limits for an individual episode’s title or description.

Use an RSS host only after checking its distribution support
YouTube notes that some podcast hosting platforms offer YouTube distribution and advises creators to check with their host. The availability of that route does not establish that a particular host will synchronize metadata for live streams or their archives. Confirm the provider’s specific behavior before relying on it.

What to check when metadata is missing or wrong
RSS updates stopped for one episode
Check whether its episode details were edited in YouTube Studio. If so, YouTube blocks subsequent RSS edits for that episode. Treat its Studio details as the active record, or use the feed for future episodes that have not had details changed in Studio.
The live stream has the wrong title or description
Review the stream’s own metadata in Studio. If you reused an earlier stream, its metadata was copied along with its settings and stream key; correct the details for the current event.

Or let it run in the cloud
For a pre-recorded episode you want to keep playing as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud playback option—not a podcast RSS metadata synchronizer. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a YouTube podcast RSS feed populate a live stream’s title and description?
The documented workflows keep RSS episode details and live-stream metadata separate; do not rely on RSS to fill the live event.
Does adding a live archive to a podcast playlist make it an RSS-managed episode?
No such metadata synchronization is documented. Review the archive’s video details and playlist placement in Studio.
