For videos playing one after another in a single YouTube Live broadcast, configure an OBS VLC Video playlist, choose how it behaves when hidden, and test every transition with your actual files. OBS documents playlists and looping, but does not promise gapless audio or document an audio crossfade between playlist items. If a brief silence is unacceptable, prepare the audio as one continuous track or use a playout workflow that supports overlaps, then test the complete stream. 4K60 encoder settings affect the outgoing stream—not the handoff between files.
First, identify which kind of “switching” you mean
This answer focuses on a creator playing prerecorded files in sequence as one live broadcast. That handoff occurs in the media playback and source workflow; YouTube’s resolution, bitrate, and keyframe settings govern the outgoing stream. Changing those encoder settings is not a documented fix for a gap at a file boundary.

- Files changing within one broadcast: configure and test the OBS playlist, as described below.
- A 4K60 stream going to YouTube: set the encoder and network capacity separately; correct output settings do not make separate files join seamlessly.
- HLS ingestion: HLS media segments are parts of an encoder output, not an OBS playlist of separate video files.
- A viewer switching between separate live broadcasts: the available platform guidance does not establish a setting that guarantees uninterrupted audio across that switch.
Set up a video playlist in OBS
- Install VLC if needed. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC. Match the VLC architecture to the OBS build: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. If VLC Video is unavailable, check the installation and architecture before troubleshooting the playlist.
- Add the source. In OBS, add a VLC Video source and add the local media files to its playlist in the intended order. Check that the files are present and playable on the computer running OBS.
- Choose the playback order and loop behavior. Use the playlist’s ordered or shuffle behavior as appropriate, and enable looping if the sequence should repeat. Confirm the last-to-first transition as well as transitions between ordinary items.
- Set behavior when hidden. Decide whether playback should continue, pause, or stop when the source is not visible. Scene changes can alter source visibility; do not assume hiding a source leaves playback running.
- Watch the audio mixer. Play the entire playlist and monitor the relevant OBS mixer meters and output. Listen through every boundary using the actual files, including the loop point. A playlist setting does not certify that audio will be gapless.
What to do if there is still a gap
Silence occurs exactly at a file boundary
Start with the media and playout layer. Listen to the source files around their start and end points, then test the transition in OBS. If continuous sound is required, prepare a continuous audio bed or use an editing/playout workflow that can create the needed overlap. This is a production workaround, not a claim that OBS’s VLC playlist has a built-in per-item crossfade.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The stream drops, buffers, or reports poor health
Investigate the encoder and network path rather than treating the symptom as a playlist crossfade problem. Check the encoder’s stream-health messages, verify that the upload connection can sustain the chosen output, and run a representative test before the event. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast, monitoring stream health, and reviewing messages.
#1 Best Overall
- [XLR Mic Input] One XLR microphone input interface is set on the gaming audio mixer, which is great to up your audio quality with your XLR setup. The XLR mixer is a stepping stone to upgrade your live streaming. Audio mixer offered built-in 48V phantom power which opens up more choices for mics. Directly use it with your condenser microphone but do not solve added peripherals. (NOT available for USB mic)
- [Individual Channel Control] Gaming audio mixer for one mic recording with smooth volume slider fader take your streaming recording to a whole new level with full pleasure. Four independent channels set on the DJ mixer give audio volume of the MICROPHONE, LINE IN, HEADPHONE, and LINE OUT channels individual control. Configurable on the PC audio mixer instead of just operating on your game or streaming software.
- [Mute and Monitor] The front mute and monitor buttons but not at the back, make it easier to get the audio interface use. Ability to mute audio, the audio mixer for streaming prevents background noise from damaging your live broadcast. Real-time feedback between speaking and hearing will not distract your attention, which encourage you to speak more confidently. The sturdy-built control button allow you to operate freely and easily during live streaming.
- [Sound Effects] The computer sound mixer supports four pre-recorded customized button that can be recorded and activated at the press of button to post production. 6 kinds of voice changing modes change your output style. 12 auto tune changes the tone of your voice. The podcast mixer being able to add different and fun effects is a huge bonus for your streaming or game voice.
- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
Audio stops after a scene change
Recheck the VLC Video source’s hidden-source behavior and the scene layout. A source configured to pause or stop when hidden will not behave like one configured to continue in the background.
Only the repeat point is affected
Test the last-to-first boundary separately. Looping repeats a playlist; it does not establish that the final audio sample of one pass will meet the first sample of the next without a gap.

Set YouTube’s 4K60 encoder output separately
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists 2160p (4K) at 60fps. For that output, its table gives AV1 and H.265 a 10–40 Mbps minimum-to-maximum range, and lists 35 Mbps as the recommended H.264 bitrate. These are YouTube’s published encoder settings, not a guarantee that a particular internet connection can sustain the stream.
| Setting | YouTube guidance relevant to this setup |
|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 2160p (4K) at 60fps |
| Video bitrate | AV1/H.265: 10–40 Mbps minimum-to-maximum range; H.264: 35 Mbps recommended |
| Rate control | CBR |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| Video codec | H.264, H.265, or AV1 |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 |
| Ingest protocol | RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS |
| Latency at 4K | Low-latency mode is unavailable for 4K streams; normal latency is used |
Use a speed test and a representative test stream before relying on a 4K60 broadcast. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into formats for different devices and network conditions. A consistent keyframe interval can help transitions between quality options; it is not an audio crossfade between playlist items.

Why HLS continuity does not solve an OBS playlist handoff
Google’s HLS documentation describes a media playlist as a list of media segments that can be concatenated into a continuous, decodable multimedia stream. Those segments belong to an encoded stream. That does not mean YouTube or OBS automatically joins distinct files in an OBS playlist gaplessly, nor does it describe switching between separate live broadcasts.
YouTube’s HDR HLS guidance includes a limit of no more than five outstanding segments. That constraint applies to HDR HLS ingestion; it is not a setting for ordinary OBS VLC playlist transitions.

Preflight checklist for a dependable broadcast
- Confirm VLC Video is available and VLC matches the OBS architecture.
- Verify playlist order, loop behavior, and hidden-source behavior.
- Play all items and inspect every audio transition, including the loop point.
- Test representative audio and motion before going live; monitor stream health and review any messages.
- Check that the upload connection can sustain the chosen encoder settings.
- If a gap remains and seamless sound is essential, prepare the audio as one continuous bed or use a workflow with the required overlap.
