Google Account two-step verification does not, by itself, turn on YouTube live streaming. To unlock streaming, verify the intended YouTube channel by phone, then check its live-streaming eligibility in YouTube Studio. Mobile streaming has extra requirements, including at least 50 subscribers, and first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
Two-step verification and YouTube channel verification are different
Google Account two-step verification adds a sign-in security check. YouTube channel verification is a separate eligibility step: YouTube says verifying the account by phone unlocks features including live streaming. YouTube’s cited setup guidance does not say that enabling Google Account two-step verification alone grants live access or is required to do so. If a security prompt appears in your account, follow it, but do not assume it replaces channel verification.

YouTube also requires that the channel have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Phone verification does not override a restriction or guarantee that every account is eligible.
Enable and check live streaming on a computer
- Select the right channel. Sign in to YouTube with the account that owns the channel you want to use, and switch to that channel if the account manages more than one.
- Verify the channel if needed. Open YouTube’s account verification flow and request a code by text message or voice call. Enter the code to complete verification.
- Check feature access. In YouTube Studio, go to Settings > Channel > Feature eligibility. Find the live-streaming status under the available feature access. YouTube places “Live streaming on a computer” in its intermediate feature tier, which is accessible through phone-number verification. See YouTube’s feature-access guidance.
- Allow time for activation. If you have not streamed before, live access may not appear immediately. Check the status again after verification; do not treat completing two-step verification as a substitute for this check.
YouTube’s general live-streaming getting-started guidance also requires no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If the feature remains unavailable, review the channel’s eligibility and any restriction notices rather than assuming two-step verification is the cause.

If you want to stream from a phone or tablet
Mobile streaming has additional requirements beyond channel verification. YouTube’s current mobile live-streaming guidance specifies:
- At least 50 subscribers.
- A verified channel.
- No live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- Live streaming turned on for the channel.
- A supported device running Android 8.0 or later, or iOS 8 or later.
For your first mobile live stream, activation can take up to 24 hours. If you meet the requirements but cannot start from the app, wait for that first-time activation period to pass, then check the channel status and app again.

Computer versus mobile eligibility

Troubleshoot missing live-stream access
- Feature eligibility does not show live streaming: Confirm that you are viewing the intended channel and that phone verification is complete. YouTube’s feature-status page is the place to check channel access.
- The code does not arrive: In the verification flow, try the voice-call option if text delivery is unavailable, and make sure the phone number can receive the selected type of message or call.
- You are trying to go live on mobile with fewer than 50 subscribers: The mobile threshold is not met. Check access from a computer separately; the mobile subscriber threshold is an additional mobile requirement.
- The channel has a recent live-streaming restriction: A restriction in the preceding 90 days fails YouTube’s stated eligibility condition. Phone verification or two-step verification does not remove it.
- You verified recently and mobile access is still missing: Allow up to 24 hours for first-time mobile activation before troubleshooting further.
- Everything appears eligible but access is still blocked: Review any account or channel notices and contact YouTube through the available account support or feedback route. The cited YouTube guidance does not document a special fix tied specifically to Google Account two-step verification.
