To restart an OBS yoga nidra stream automatically after Windows restarts, configure OBS to launch at your Windows account’s sign-in with the --startstreaming argument. OBS will start its streaming output when it opens, but this does not guarantee that your streaming platform restores the same live event or reconnects after every network outage. Test the setup with your actual account and destination before relying on it unattended.
What automatic restart does—and does not—do
OBS Project’s Launch Parameters documentation, dated May 30, 2021, lists --startstreaming as “Automatically start streaming.” That launches OBS’s streaming output; it is not a monitor that relaunches OBS if it later crashes or stops. Nor does it resolve missing media, expired credentials, audio problems, or platform-side restrictions.

Windows startup and platform recovery are separate steps. A logon-triggered task can open OBS, but the destination platform determines whether the stream reconnects to an existing broadcast or needs a scheduled event or other live controls. The platform is not specified here, so confirm its behavior and automatic-start settings directly.

Choose how OBS should start
| Method | Visibility and control | Timing and network handling |
|---|---|---|
| Startup-folder shortcut | Starts OBS when the user signs in, in the normal desktop session. | Simple, but offers limited timing and network controls. |
| Task Scheduler logon task | Can be tied to the account that runs OBS; a logon-triggered executable action is documented by Microsoft. | Supports a configurable logon delay and an optional Windows network-availability condition. |
| Pre-logon or system-start task | May start a process before the desktop session is available, so the visible OBS interface may not appear as expected. | Starts earlier, but does not by itself ensure a working connection to the streaming service. |
For a yoga nidra stream you may need to check or control in the desktop, a Task Scheduler logon task is a practical default. Microsoft describes a logon trigger as one that “starts a task when a user logs on.” Prefer the ordinary user-logon workflow unless you have verified a specific headless setup on your PC.

Prepare OBS before automating it
- Open OBS manually and check the intended scene, video or media source, audio source, stream destination, and credentials.
- Start the stream normally and verify that the platform displays the intended live event. Confirm that the video loops as intended and the audio remains audible throughout the relevant playback.
- Save the OBS profile and scene collection. Check that media files remain at stable paths accessible to the same Windows account after restart.
- Stop the manual test cleanly. Automation should reproduce a working setup, not conceal a problem that already exists.
Set up automatic streaming at Windows sign-in
1. Find the OBS executable
Locate obs64.exe on the PC. A typical 64-bit installation uses C:Program Filesobs-studiobin64bitobs64.exe, but use the actual path on your system.
2. Add the launch argument
Create or edit an OBS shortcut. In its Target field, put the executable path in quotation marks, then add a space and --startstreaming outside the closing quotation mark:

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
3. Create a logon task in Task Scheduler
- Open Windows Task Scheduler and create a task for the Windows account that normally runs OBS.
- Add a trigger that starts the task At log on for that account. Microsoft’s LogonTrigger documentation describes a user-specific logon trigger and a delay option.
- Add an action that starts
obs64.exewith--startstreaming, or launches the shortcut containing that argument. Check the executable path and argument fields carefully. - Set Start in (the working directory) to the folder containing
obs64.exe. OBS specifically calls for this folder when launching through scheduled or other automation. For the typical path above, the folder isC:Program Filesobs-studiobin64bit. - If startup activity makes the PC slow to respond, configure a short logon delay and test it. The right delay depends on the PC; no fixed value guarantees that a router or streaming service will be ready.
Microsoft documents an optional setting to run a task only when a network is available. This checks Windows’ reported network availability, not whether your streaming endpoint is reachable or your credentials work. It does not create a retry loop if OBS starts before the service or router is ready.
Alternative: the Startup folder
For a simpler setup, place a shortcut with the --startstreaming argument in the Startup folder for the Windows account that runs OBS. This launches at sign-in but does not provide Task Scheduler’s configurable delay or network condition. Confirm that the shortcut’s target and working directory are correct.

Test the restart safely
- Choose a planned restart or sign-out/sign-in when an unattended live broadcast is acceptable.
- Sign in to the account configured for the task. Confirm that OBS opens with the intended profile, scene, media, and audio.
- Check that OBS reports streaming and that the platform shows the intended live event. An OBS window opening alone is not proof that viewers can see or hear the stream.
- If recovery after a router or modem restart matters, test under that actual network arrangement as well. A fixed delay can help with ordinary startup ordering but cannot guarantee that equipment will be ready after an unusually slow reboot.
Troubleshoot common restart failures
- OBS opens, but streaming does not start: Check that
--startstreamingis in the task’s argument field or the shortcut target, and verify the executable path. - The task runs but OBS is missing or behaves differently: Confirm the task uses the intended Windows account and saved OBS profile. A task that runs before sign-in may not provide the visible desktop interface expected in a normal workflow.
- OBS starts, but the scene is blank or silent: Check the saved scene collection, media-file paths, audio routing, and whether the relevant files are available to that account after sign-in.
- OBS reports streaming, but the platform does not show the expected event: Check the destination credentials and the platform’s event or live-start controls. OBS’s launch argument does not determine how a platform restores a broadcast.
- The PC restarts before the network is ready: A logon delay or network-availability condition may help with ordinary startup, but neither verifies service reachability nor retries a failed connection. A dependable retry loop requires additional automation that must be designed and tested separately.
- A recovery or safe-mode prompt blocks startup: Resolve the cause of the abnormal shutdown and verify behavior on the installed OBS release. Do not assume an unattended task will dismiss prompts.
- OBS stops later after launching correctly:
--startstreamingstarts streaming at OBS launch; it does not continually relaunch OBS after a crash or stop.
