If one recorded match starts over immediately, turn off Loop for that file’s OBS Media Source. To keep a live broadcast running while cycling through multiple matches, load distinct recordings into an OBS VLC Video playlist and choose either a deliberate order or shuffle. The playlist controls the footage sent by your encoder; YouTube Studio’s DVR and archive settings do not control match rotation.
Stop one match from restarting in OBS
- Select the scene and source: In OBS, open the scene containing the match recording and select its Media Source in the Sources list. If the source is hidden or the scene is not active, changing its setting will not fix what viewers see.
- Turn off Loop: Open the source’s properties and clear Loop. OBS documents this setting as controlling whether a file plays again when it finishes; the documented default is Off. (OBS Project, Media Sources, dated 2022-01-11.)
- Choose what happens at the end: With Loop off, that file will not restart itself. If you need uninterrupted footage, use a multi-file playlist as described below rather than relying on a single looping file.
Rotate multiple match recordings with an OBS playlist
OBS’s VLC Video source supports a playlist of media files. It requires VLC to be installed; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. If VLC Video is missing from OBS’s source options, check that dependency and the matching architecture. (OBS Project, Media Sources, dated 2022-01-11.)

- Add the source: In the OBS scene that will carry the gameplay footage, add a VLC Video source.
- Load distinct recordings: In the source properties, add the match files you want in rotation. Use clear filenames and remove duplicate recordings or alternate exports of the same match if you do not want them to recur close together.
- Set the rotation behavior: Enable Loop Playlist if the list should start over after its final item. OBS documents this option as On by default. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for the listed order; its documented default is Off. Turn shuffle on if you prefer randomized file order.
- Check the loaded result: Before going live, play through enough of the sequence to confirm the right files, order, scene visibility, and wraparound behavior. These are practical checks, not a guarantee that OBS recognizes match content.
Choose predictable variety or randomized variety

There is no established universal number of matches to place between repeats or ideal repeat interval. If a particular match appears in several files, remove or manually space those files; shuffling cannot identify their shared content.

What OBS controls and what YouTube Studio controls
OBS or another encoder supplies the gameplay or media feed. YouTube’s getting-started guidance describes encoders as a way to stream gameplay, overlays, and hardware such as microphones and cameras; supported modern consoles can also stream directly. In YouTube Studio, create or select the live broadcast and manage its metadata, stream key, and broadcast options. YouTube’s DVR setting lets viewers pause or rewind the live event; it does not change the encoder’s media playlist. OBS Profiles and Scene Collections are workflow tools, not match-rotation features: OBS documents Profiles for output settings and distinguishes them from Scene Collections. Keep a YouTube archive without confusing it with rotation
Playlist rotation affects the live feed. Archiving is a separate question: YouTube’s current help guidance says live streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends keeping a local backup, and warns that a stream over 12 hours may not be captured at all. Treat the under-12-hour threshold as archive eligibility guidance, not a promise that every stream will be saved. If the archive matters, record locally as well; manage the resulting archive’s visibility or delete it in YouTube Studio’s Content/Live area when appropriate. Troubleshooting repeated or missing matches
- The same file restarts as soon as it ends: Check that the source is a Media Source and clear its Loop option. If you need a continuing rotation, switch to a VLC Video playlist.
- The playlist does not advance or loop as expected: Confirm that the intended recordings are loaded and that Loop Playlist is enabled if you want the list to wrap. Test the end of the sequence before broadcasting.
- VLC Video is not available: Install VLC and match its architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- A match still comes back too soon with shuffle on: Remove duplicate files or alternate exports. Shuffle randomizes files and does not identify their match content.
- The playlist order is unpredictable: Turn off Shuffle Playlist and arrange the files manually, spacing similar matches apart.
- Viewers can rewind but the next match is still wrong: YouTube DVR affects viewer playback controls, not the footage selected by OBS. Correct the source or playlist in OBS.
- The live stream exists but no archive appears: Check the stream duration against YouTube’s archive guidance and keep a local recording when preservation matters. Streams over 12 hours may not be captured.
