Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →OBS Studio can automatically reconnect after a network interruption, but its reconnect setting does not restart OBS after the application itself crashes. For a 24/7 meditation stream, those are different failures: connection recovery can happen inside a running OBS process; a stopped process needs a separate restart mechanism, and YouTube’s broadcast must also return to a live state. Test that full chain on your setup rather than assuming one setting handles all three.
First identify what stopped
“OBS crashed” can mean either that OBS is still open but has lost its connection to YouTube, or that the OBS application has exited. Check the computer and OBS before changing settings: if OBS is still running, troubleshoot the connection; if the process has stopped, reconnect settings inside OBS cannot act until OBS is launched again.

| Failure | What may help | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Network or connection interruption while OBS remains open | OBS automatic reconnect can retry the output connection. Adjust retry delay and maximum retries in OBS’s stream settings. OBS connection troubleshooting | That YouTube’s watch page has resumed the intended broadcast. |
| OBS process crash or computer restart | A separate process supervisor or operator must launch OBS again. | A specific watchdog setup that safely relaunches OBS and restores the same YouTube broadcast is not established by the cited sources. |
Set up OBS to retry a dropped connection
When OBS is still running, its automatic reconnect feature can retry a dropped stream connection. In OBS Studio, open Settings → Advanced → Network and find the automatic reconnect controls. The exact labels or placement can vary by version; the OBS locale strings include reconnect, retry delay, and maximum-retry settings. See the OBS Studio English locale strings.
- Enable Automatically Reconnect.
- Choose a retry delay and maximum retry count that suit your connection and the version of OBS you use.
- Save the settings, then test by briefly interrupting the network while OBS is running. Confirm that OBS retries and that YouTube receives the stream again.
There is no universally correct retry delay or retry limit in the cited guidance. A longer wait between attempts may reduce repeated rapid connection attempts; a larger retry limit may allow more attempts before OBS gives up. Neither setting relaunches a crashed application.

If OBS itself crashes
OBS’s in-process reconnect option cannot restart OBS after its process has ended. Restart OBS manually or use a process-supervision facility appropriate to your operating system, but do not assume that a generic watchdog, scheduled task, or command will restore the same YouTube event. The cited sources do not verify a platform-specific configuration for doing that safely.
For any restart approach, verify the whole recovery path on the actual computer before leaving the meditation stream unattended:

- Confirm OBS launches after the failure or restart.
- Check that it loads the intended scene and the correct media or playlist.
- Confirm the intended YouTube stream key and output are selected. Treat the stream key as a credential; do not publish or share it.
- Verify OBS is sending data, then open YouTube Studio and the viewer-facing watch page to confirm the intended broadcast is live.
These checks matter because encoder data flowing from OBS and a live viewer-facing YouTube broadcast are separate states. A successful OBS relaunch alone does not prove that viewers can see the meditation stream.
Check YouTube’s broadcast settings and viewer expectations
YouTube’s scheduled-broadcast Auto-start and Auto-stop controls affect how a broadcast transitions when streaming data begins or stops. OBS’s older YouTube streaming guide describes these controls, including allowing a later reconnection when Auto-stop is disabled. Because the guide was created in 2015, confirm current labels and behavior in YouTube Studio rather than relying on its interface descriptions. These controls can shape transitions; they do not guarantee that every crash resumes the same event.

YouTube also says DVR may be limited or unavailable for live streams longer than 12 hours. If meditation viewers expect to rewind a long session, see YouTube’s DVR guidance and plan around that limitation. An older OBS forum guide says broadcasts can eventually end after multiple hours without streaming data, but it does not establish a precise current timeout; do not count on an interrupted scheduled broadcast remaining available indefinitely.

OBS notes that dropped frames or intermittent disconnections can indicate a network problem between the computer and the ingest server. Those symptoms call for connection troubleshooting, not an application watchdog. Follow the steps in OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide.

- OBS is open, but the stream disconnects: check the computer’s connection to the network and YouTube ingest, then observe whether OBS’s reconnect attempts continue or reach the configured limit.
- Security software may be interfering: review the relevant firewall or security-software rules for OBS and its network connection.
- The connection remains intermittent: OBS’s guidance includes restarting modem or router equipment as a possible fix for some connectivity issues. This addresses network trouble, not a crashed OBS process.
- OBS has closed: capture any error details you need, relaunch it, and check the stream and broadcast states separately in OBS and YouTube Studio.
