For most eligible Pixel owners, the simplest way to install Android 17 QPR3 Beta is to enroll the phone in Google’s Android Beta for Pixel program, then download the offered over-the-air (OTA) update. Back up your data first: enrollment usually does not require a reset, but flashing a factory image or returning from beta to public software wipes the device.
Check whether your Pixel is supported
Google’s QPR3 guide lists these supported devices. Confirm your exact model on Google’s Android 17 QPR3 guide before enrolling; eligibility should not be assumed for models that are not listed.

Choose the right installation route
| Route | Best for | Data and setup implications |
|---|---|---|
| Beta enrollment and OTA | Most people installing QPR3 for ordinary use | Google says enrollment usually does not require a full reset. Back up before installing. |
| Android Flash Tool or factory image | People who need manual control, such as for testing or repeated reinstalls | Requires a computer and USB connection; factory image flashing resets the device and erases user data. |
| OTA recovery image | Recovery when a beta OTA update leaves the device unable to start | Not the normal installation method. Follow Google’s recovery instructions for the specific situation. |
Google recommends the QPR3 getting-started guide for normal installation. Its Android Developers documentation says QPR3 has no API changes, but provides beta images so developers can test apps against the releases.

Install QPR3 through the beta program
- Back up important data. Although enrolling generally avoids a full reset, a beta is pre-release software and Google recommends backing up before installation.
- Enroll your eligible Pixel. Open Google’s Android Beta for Pixel page, sign in with the Google account used on the phone, and enroll the device shown there.
- Check for the offered system update. On the Pixel, open Settings > System > Software updates > System update and follow the prompts to download and install the beta if it is offered. Availability can take time after enrollment.
- Allow the phone to restart and finish setup. Keep the device charged and connected while the update installs. Once enrolled, the phone receives regular beta OTA updates unless you opt out.
Install manually with Android Flash Tool
Use this route only if you specifically need to flash an image rather than receive the beta OTA. Google’s QPR3 factory images page provides device-specific images and points to Android Flash Tool. Factory-image flashing erases the device, so save anything important elsewhere first.

- In Settings > System > Developer options, turn on USB debugging.
- Connect the unlocked phone to a computer with a USB data connection, open Android Flash Tool, and follow its onscreen prompts to select and flash the appropriate image.
- Expect a full reset and complete the device setup again after flashing.
Google’s QPR3 factory-image page lists a release date of October 2, 2026, builds DP11.260918.005 and DP11.260918.006, security patch level 2026-08-05, and Google Play services version 26.32.34. These are release-specific details and can change; check the page for the image and build currently offered for your device.
Return to the public Android release
Leaving the beta for public software can trigger a full device wipe. Back up your data before opting out or installing the public build, then use the opt-out and update instructions on Google’s Android Beta for Pixel page. Do not assume that opting out preserves data when moving from a preview build back to public software.

If an OTA update leaves the device unable to start, use Google’s QPR3 OTA image recovery instructions. Recovery OTA images address this failure case; they are not a substitute for the ordinary enrollment-and-update process.
