Google named paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers as starting cohorts for that expansion, but has not published a general-app launch date or confirmed that Ultra guarantees access.
You can still switch among the models currently shown in your Gemini app: sign in, select the model name in the prompt box, then choose an available option. Which one to pick depends on whether you value speed, balanced performance or deeper reasoning.

How do I access Gemini 4 Argon?
Google’s September 30, 2026 announcement says Argon is initially rolling out to trusted cyber defenders through the Fairwind Program. Google plans to expand access to developers, enterprises and consumers, starting with paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers. That is a phased-release plan—not confirmation of general Gemini app access or a guaranteed entitlement for every subscriber. Google’s announcement gives no date or country schedule for wider availability.

Why can’t I see Argon in the Gemini app?
The announced first phase is limited to trusted cyber defenders in Fairwind, and Google has not said that Argon is generally selectable in the consumer app. Although Google identifies Google AI Ultra subscribers among the first cohorts for a planned expansion, it has not stated that every Ultra subscriber already has access or that Ultra is a prerequisite for all future access.
Google has not specified a general-app launch date, country availability or exact subscription eligibility. Avoid treating an absent model-picker option as a setting you can fix by changing plans: the public announcement does not establish that doing so will unlock Argon.

How do I switch Gemini models?
- Sign in to the Gemini app or go to gemini.google.com.
- Open the model selector by tapping or clicking the model name in the prompt box.
- Choose an option shown in the selector. The available choices depend on what Google currently makes available to your account.

For routine work, start with the faster option. Move to a more capable model when the task’s complexity warrants the extra response time or usage. Google’s plan and limits information describes features and allowances that vary by plan; treat it as a current snapshot rather than a permanent guarantee.
Which Gemini model is best for coding?
For ordinary coding questions, start with Gemini Flash if you want a balance of speed and reasoning. For difficult code problems or work that needs deeper reasoning, try Gemini Pro if it is available in your selector. These recommendations follow Google’s descriptions of the models; they do not establish a universal winner for every language, project or coding task.

Argon is not a choice to recommend to app users until it appears in their selector and Google publishes applicable access terms. Google reports a 77.9% score on the DeepSWE v1.1 long-horizon software engineering benchmark, but that company-reported benchmark result is not a guarantee of an individual user’s coding outcome.

Google characterizes Argon as a model for complex workflows including software engineering, enterprise knowledge work such as legal and finance, and cybersecurity defense. The company also says its output token limit is 1 million, increased from a previous 64,000-token limit. Those are claims in Google’s September 30, 2026 announcement, not evidence that Argon is available for every app user or task.

Google’s announcement includes examples from its own work: a quantum optimization result reported at 40% over a published baseline and a Rust video-decoder port reported as 2.7× faster. These are company-reported examples in specific contexts, not broad independent benchmarks of likely user performance.
Do I need Google AI Ultra?
Google has not established that Ultra is required for Argon, nor that every Ultra subscriber has it now. The company names Ultra subscribers among the initial cohorts for planned expansion beyond Fairwind, but does not specify exact app eligibility, a launch date or country-by-country availability. Check Google’s announcements and the model selector in your own account for current access rather than assuming a subscription guarantees it.
Google also announced introductory Argon API prices of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with later prices of $4 and $20 respectively. These are API prices announced by Google, not Gemini app subscription prices, and they do not establish consumer-app access.
