There may be many files using names such as “ReTour APK,” but a matching filename is not proof of provenance. A mirror can rename a different application, add advertising code, replace the original package, or distribute an old build with altered behavior. - Record the exact filename. Include capitalization and the extension. A renamed file is not necessarily malicious, but an unexplained name change is a reason to stop and ask in the project’s official release channel.
- Record the file size. Compare the byte count with the release post. A difference can indicate a different build, an incomplete download, or a modified package.
- Record the source channel and message. Note the Discord server, channel, message date, and attachment name so you can find the announcement again.
- Extract the package name without installing. On a computer, Android SDK tools or an APK inspection utility can display the manifest package identifier. The public ReTour information reviewed here does not publish a project-specific signing fingerprint. That means you cannot complete a definitive ReTour certificate match from the available public material. Do not copy a fingerprint from a random download page, and do not treat a valid signature as proof that Nintendo made or approved the application. Why a signature mismatch matters
- An unrelated certificate can indicate a repackaged or substituted APK.
- An update signed with a different key may not install over an earlier version and may represent a different publisher.

Keep Android’s security controls enabled

Step-by-step safer installation workflow
- Back up important data. Keep Android updated and make sure you can recover your photos, contacts, authenticator codes, and other essential information. Isolation reduces exposure but does not make an APK safe.
