To install AVG, download the installer for your operating system from AVG’s official instructions, check that your device meets the current requirements, and follow the setup prompts. On a Mac, open the downloaded DMG and complete any requested permissions. Installing AVG is separate from activating paid Internet Security features.
Before you install AVG
Compatibility depends on the AVG product and your operating-system version. Check AVG’s current system requirements for the exact product and platform before downloading; do not assume an older Windows or macOS version is supported.

For Windows AVG AntiVirus, AVG’s preparation guidance lists a supported processor, at least 1 GB of RAM, 2 GB of free disk space, and an internet connection. These are requirements for that product, not a guarantee that every AVG product or Windows edition has the same requirements. Install AVG on a Windows PC

Check the PC’s compatibility and install available Windows updates. If another antivirus program is installed, AVG recommends removing it before retrying an AVG installation that fails.

Use AVG’s official AVG AntiVirus installation instructions to get the appropriate Windows installer, then open the downloaded setup file.

Follow the installer’s on-screen prompts to complete setup. The exact interface may change, so follow the current prompts rather than relying on older screenshots or labels.

Restart the PC if needed. AVG says some components may not fully function until the computer is restarted; this does not mean a restart is required in every case.

If Windows installation fails
AVG’s guidance is to recheck system requirements and the installer file, remove previous antivirus software, restart the computer, and try again. If the issue continues, follow AVG’s current support troubleshooting rather than assuming one of these steps will resolve every failure.
Install AVG on a Mac

Check your Mac against AVG’s current requirements for the specific product and macOS version.

Download the Mac installer from AVG’s official installation instructions and save it somewhere easy to find, such as Downloads.

Open the downloaded DMG and launch the AVG installer. Follow its prompts, including reviewing and accepting the privacy policy and licence terms.

Complete any permissions the installer requests. If prompted, authorize the installation or certificate-trust update with Touch ID or your Mac login password.

If Mac installation fails
Recheck compatibility, remove other antivirus software if present, restart the Mac, and retry with a fresh installer downloaded from AVG. If the problem persists, use AVG’s current support guidance.
