Before you install
Remove conflicting security software
Comodo’s version 12.2 installation guidance says to remove other antivirus and firewall products before installing Internet Security because security products of the same type may conflict. Follow the other vendor’s own uninstall instructions; Comodo advises consulting that vendor’s documentation for product-specific removal steps. If you intend to install only the antivirus component, consider whether you need to keep a firewall already installed on your PC before removing it.

Check Windows compatibility
Comodo’s official pages do not agree about supported Windows versions. The version 12.2 help page lists Windows 10 and says CIS versions 12.0.0.6882 and later do not support Windows XP or Vista. A separate Comodo download page lists Windows 10, 8, 7, and Vista. Because those claims conflict, check the requirements for the exact installer on Comodo’s official download or support page before proceeding. The reviewed Comodo pages do not establish Windows 11 support.

- Open Comodo’s official Internet Security download route and download the installer. Avoid third-party download mirrors.
- Open the saved setup file and choose the installer’s language.
- Review the Options screen. Comodo’s version 12.2 guide describes controls for changing the installation path and selecting components.
The documented setup is for Comodo Internet Security (CIS) Premium, which includes an antivirus component choice. It is not evidence that every feature shown in the installer is required for antivirus protection or available on every Windows release.

Choose the components you want
Comodo’s 12.2 guide lists these selectable components. Review the installer’s current choices rather than assuming the broader bundle is necessary:

If you want antivirus rather than the full suite, select Comodo Antivirus and decide separately whether you want the other components. Keep in mind that a firewall choice may overlap with firewall software you already use.

Review DNS and browser options
The version 12.2 guide describes installer options to change the computer’s DNS provider to Comodo Secure DNS and to make Comodo Dragon the default browser. It also mentions Yahoo search-related behavior. These are setup choices, not prerequisites for installing the antivirus scanner; read the wording on the installer screen and leave options unselected if you do not want those changes.
Finish installation, scan, and restart
- Accept the installation settings you want and let setup complete.
- Allow Comodo’s initial scan to run. The guide says it checks critical areas, memory, autorun entries, hidden services, and boot sectors.
- Review any findings and apply only the cleanup actions you choose.
- Select a network location when prompted. Comodo says this choice determines firewall settings.
- Save open work, then restart Windows to finalize the installation.
Do you need to activate a paid tier?
Comodo’s version 12.2 help material says Premium, Pro, and Complete share core security features, while Pro and Complete add services. If you have a Pro or Complete license, the guide says to activate it after installation. Optional service activation is not required simply to install the free/Premium software. The guide also says a full antivirus scan must pass to activate Comodo’s guarantee.

What to do if setup cannot continue
- Installer reports a conflict: Remove the identified antivirus or firewall using its vendor’s removal directions, restart if requested, then run the Comodo installer again.
- Your Windows version is unclear: Do not rely on the conflicting general download-page list alone. Verify compatibility for the specific installer with Comodo before installing.
- You do not want bundled changes: Return to the component and options screens and deselect components or DNS/browser changes you do not want before accepting installation.
