MaPC is a native Mac public-beta app that installs Windows games from Steam, Epic Games and GOG on Apple Silicon Macs. To use it, you need an M1-or-newer Mac on macOS 15 or later, roughly 30 GB of free storage, an internet connection and Rosetta 2. Download MaPC 1.0.6 Beta, place it in Applications, let it download its game engine, connect a store account, install a title and press Play. DirectX 9, 10 and 11 games are handled automatically through DXVK; DirectX 12 remains experimental and needs a separate Apple Game Porting Toolkit installation.
What MaPC does—and what it does not guarantee
MaPC translates the Windows game environment for macOS rather than turning a Windows installer into a native Mac application. Its library view can combine games from Steam, Epic Games and GOG, then download and launch their Windows builds. MaPC describes itself as “A native Mac app, now in public beta, that installs and runs Windows games from Steam, Epic Games and GOG on Apple Silicon Macs.”

Compatibility is title-specific. The software automatically selects initial graphics settings, but launchers, middleware, graphics APIs and anti-cheat systems can behave differently from one game to another. MaPC’s terms state: “We don’t promise that any particular game will run, or run well.” No independent performance or compatibility percentage has been published in the authoritative material available for this guide.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Best fit: Windows games using DirectX 9, 10 or 11 without kernel-level anti-cheat.
- More work: DirectX 12 titles, games that need unusual launch options, and games using separate launchers.
- Not supported on macOS: games whose anti-cheat operates at the Windows kernel level.
Requirements before you download
Mac and operating-system requirements
- An Apple Silicon Mac with an M1, M2, M3 or M4 chip (or a later Apple Silicon generation).
- macOS 15 or later.
- Approximately 30 GB of free space for MaPC’s engine and game installation data. Individual games need additional space shown by their store.
- Internet access for the app download, engine download, store sign-in, game files and updates.
Intel Macs are outside MaPC’s stated baseline. Do not assume that a game that runs through MaPC on one Apple Silicon model will perform identically on another; memory capacity, thermal limits and the game’s own settings affect results.

Rosetta 2
MaPC can offer to install Rosetta 2 during setup. Rosetta is Apple’s translation layer for Intel-based Mac software. If macOS displays the installation prompt, connect to the internet and choose Install. You can also install it in Terminal with:
softwareupdate --install-rosetta
Install Rosetta before troubleshooting a failed setup. The command is supplied by Apple; macOS may ask you to accept its license terms.
Accounts and game ownership
You must own or otherwise have access to the Windows game in the store account you connect. MaPC does not replace a store account, entitlement or publisher login. Keep your Steam, Epic Games or GOG credentials available, and expect a publisher launcher to request another sign-in when a particular title requires it.
Install MaPC 1.0.6 Beta
- Check the prerequisites. Confirm the Apple Silicon chip, macOS 15-or-later version, Rosetta availability and approximately 30 GB of free storage. Remove or move large files if the available space is marginal; the game itself can require considerably more.
- Download the MaPC 1.0.6 Beta disk image. Open the downloaded disk-image file when it finishes.
- Copy the app. Drag MaPC into the Applications folder in the disk-image window. Eject the disk image after copying if macOS leaves it mounted.
- Launch MaPC from Applications. On first launch, allow the approximately 210 MB game-engine download. MaPC performs an integrity check, so leave the app open and keep the Mac connected to the internet until that check completes.
- Install Rosetta if requested. Use the macOS prompt, or run the Apple command shown above and then reopen MaPC.
The 210 MB figure is the approximate first-launch engine download reported for MaPC 1.0.6 Beta; later game files and updates are separate.

Connect Steam, Epic Games or GOG
- When setup asks which store to use, choose Steam, Epic Games or GOG.
- Complete authentication in the store’s own sign-in page. MaPC says it does not see your password.
- Approve any normal store authorization request and return to MaPC.
- Wait for the combined library to populate. Select a game to view its install action and available metadata.
MaPC says store login tokens remain on the Mac in a folder readable only by your user account. It also says it has no telemetry or analytics. The app nevertheless connects to GitHub for engines and tools, the stores for cover art and store data, Cloudflare for domain and email forwarding, its email provider, and Gumroad for supporter-license checks.
Install and launch a Windows game
Install from the combined library
- Select the game in MaPC’s library.
- Click Install and choose the requested destination if MaPC offers more than one location.
- Monitor the Downloads view for progress, errors and completion. Keep enough free space for the download, unpacking process and the installed game; temporary files can require extra headroom.
- When installation finishes, select the title and click Play.
MaPC chooses initial graphics settings at first launch. Start with those settings, confirm that the game reaches its menu, then change one setting at a time so you can identify which option affects stability or frame rate. Save changes in the game’s own video menu where possible.
What happens on later launches
After the first successful run, launch the game from MaPC rather than opening its Windows executable in Finder. MaPC can apply per-game backend choices, launch options and graphics settings from its game configuration. Store updates, game patches and publisher-launcher updates may change behavior, so a previously working title can require a new setting after an update.

Graphics API support: DX9–11 versus DX12
| Windows graphics API | MaPC path | What you need to do | Practical expectation |
|---|---|---|---|
| DirectX 9 | DXVK over Vulkan and Metal | No separate graphics toolkit is required. | Automatic support path; still dependent on the individual game. |
| DirectX 10 | DXVK over Vulkan and Metal | No separate graphics toolkit is required. | Automatic support path; adjust per-game settings if needed. |
| DirectX 11 | DXVK over Vulkan and Metal | No separate graphics toolkit is required. | Automatic support path; title-specific compatibility applies. |
| DirectX 12 | Experimental D3DMetal option | Install Apple’s Game Porting Toolkit independently and follow Apple’s license restrictions. | Experimental; MaPC does not include, sell or license the toolkit. |
MaPC exposes per-game graphics-backend choices, ray-tracing controls, MetalFX upscaling and launch options. These controls do not turn an unsupported game into a supported one. If a DX9–11 game shows a blank window or crashes, test the available backend and launch options individually, then return to the game’s default settings if the change makes no difference.

Installing the Game Porting Toolkit for DX12
DX12 support is an advanced, experimental route rather than a standard MaPC feature. Obtain Apple’s Game Porting Toolkit from Apple, install it yourself and comply with the toolkit’s license. Because MaPC does not distribute or license D3DMetal, its normal engine download does not provide this dependency. If you do not want to manage that separate installation, choose a DX9, DX10 or DX11 rendering mode when the game offers one, or use another compatibility solution.
Anti-cheat and launcher limits
Kernel-level anti-cheat
Games that require kernel-level anti-cheat cannot run on macOS. This is an operating-system boundary, not a missing MaPC toggle: macOS cannot load a Windows kernel driver. A game may install correctly and still refuse to enter matchmaking or close at launch when its anti-cheat service starts.
Ubisoft Connect and EA app
MaPC identifies Ubisoft Connect and the EA app as not reliably supported yet. A game that depends on either launcher may fail during sign-in, patching or startup even when its store entry appears in the library. Treat a successful download as proof only that the files arrived—not that the launcher or game will run.

- Look for a kernel-level anti-cheat requirement in the game’s support documentation or launcher message.
- Identify whether the game requires Ubisoft Connect, the EA app or another separate Windows launcher.
- Check whether the game offers DX9, DX10 or DX11 as an alternative to DX12.
- Expect online competitive features to be more fragile than an offline campaign, even when the game itself opens.
Controller support in MaPC 1.0.5 Beta
MaPC 1.0.5 Beta added support for DualShock 4, DualSense and Backbone One PlayStation Edition controllers. It also added a setting that maps those devices as Xbox controllers for games that only recognize XInput-style input. Connect a compatible USB-C or Bluetooth controller, then enable the mapping option only if the game does not detect the controller’s native layout.

Controller support at the app level does not guarantee that every game accepts every button, gyro feature, headset jack or vibration mode. Check the game’s input settings after launch. If prompts show the wrong symbols, switch the mapping setting, restart the game and test again. A wired USB-C connection can help distinguish a Bluetooth pairing problem from a game-compatibility problem.
Troubleshooting by symptom
MaPC will not install or the engine check fails
- Confirm that the Mac is Apple Silicon and running macOS 15 or newer.
- Free additional storage beyond the nominal 30 GB, then restart the download.
- Install Rosetta 2 and relaunch MaPC.
- Redownload the 1.0.6 Beta disk image if the app was copied incompletely, and launch the copy in Applications rather than from the mounted image.
The store connects but the library is empty
- Verify that the browser sign-in completed in the store’s own page.
- Check that the selected account owns the Windows version of the game.
- Sign out and reconnect the store account if the authorization window was closed early.
- Allow time for cover art and store data to load; MaPC obtains that information from the connected store.
The game downloads but will not start
- Identify the game’s graphics API. Try a DX9–11 mode if the title provides one before attempting the experimental DX12 path.
- Remove custom launch options and retest with MaPC’s initial settings.
- Check for kernel-level anti-cheat or a required Ubisoft Connect or EA app component.
- Install pending game and launcher updates, then restart MaPC.
The game starts but performs poorly
- Lower resolution, ray tracing and other expensive effects in the game’s own settings.
- Test MetalFX upscaling where the title and MaPC configuration expose it.
- Close other demanding applications and keep the Mac connected to power during long sessions.
- Change one setting at a time; there is no published independent benchmark establishing a universal MaPC performance level.
Online play fails after a successful launch
Separate the game engine from its online services. A campaign may run while anti-cheat, a publisher account or a matchmaking service blocks multiplayer. If the service uses kernel-level anti-cheat, MaPC cannot make it compatible with macOS.

The core app, supported stores, engine updates and game fixes are free according to MaPC’s 2026 product information. Optional one-time supporter packages are listed from $4.99; pricing can change, so verify the current amount before purchasing. These packages add extras rather than basic game installation, including save backup, playtime statistics, a keep-Mac-awake option, shortcuts, menu-bar launching, Siri/Shortcuts integration, Retina resolution and a performance HUD.
You do not need a supporter package to download the app, connect a store, install a supported game or use the standard engine. The game’s own purchase price and any required subscription remain separate from MaPC.

When another compatibility layer is the better fallback
If a title fails in MaPC, compare it with CrossOver for Mac rather than repeatedly changing random settings. CodeWeavers documents CrossOver on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 10.13 or later. The useful comparison questions are:
| Decision factor | Questions to ask | What is established here |
|---|---|---|
| Launcher coverage | Does the game require a publisher launcher that MaPC identifies as unreliable? | Ubisoft Connect and the EA app are not reliably supported in MaPC. |
| Anti-cheat | Does the title load a kernel-level driver? | Kernel-level anti-cheat games cannot run on macOS through MaPC. |
| Setup effort | Do you prefer MaPC’s store library flow or manual per-game configuration? | MaPC’s documented flow is download, connect a store, install and Play; other layers have their own setup. |
| Graphics API | Is the game DX9–11 or DX12? | MaPC handles DX9–11 through DXVK; DX12 is experimental and needs Apple’s toolkit. |
| Performance | Which option is faster on your exact Mac and game? | No independent MaPC benchmark or universal compatibility percentage is published. |
| Price and licensing | What does the alternative charge and what license applies? | Check the provider’s current terms; MaPC’s core app is free with optional supporter tiers. |
Do not assume a fallback bypasses anti-cheat restrictions. A different compatibility layer can change API or launcher behavior, but it cannot make a Windows kernel driver load in macOS.
Privacy, account storage and beta expectations
MaPC says it has no telemetry or analytics and stores store login tokens locally in a folder readable only by your macOS user account. It still communicates with external services needed for engines, tools, store metadata, domain and email forwarding, email delivery and supporter-license verification. Review those connections against your own privacy requirements, especially on a shared Mac.

Quick Recap
A practical go/no-go checklist
- Apple Silicon Mac, macOS 15 or later.
- At least approximately 30 GB free, plus the game’s download and temporary extraction space.
- Rosetta 2 installed or ready to install.
- Store account and game entitlement available.
- No kernel-level anti-cheat requirement.
- DX9–11 preferred; DX12 accepted only if you are prepared to install Apple’s Game Porting Toolkit independently.
- Controller requirements checked in the game’s input documentation.
- Expectation set correctly: MaPC is a public beta and does not promise that a particular game will run or run well.
