How to Install and Configure the AuraV Mod for GTA V (Enhanced, Legacy, and FiveM)

Install the AuraV package that matches your GTA V edition, extract its files directly beside the game executable, then launch Story Mode and press F10 to configure the mod live. AuraV Enhanced requires Windows 10 or 11 and an NVIDIA RTX graphics card for path tracing; AuraV is not intended for GTA Online.

What AuraV changes in GTA V

AuraV is Kypos’s graphics overhaul for Grand Theft Auto V. Its core rendering work path-traces lighting, rebuilds the sky and atmosphere, and changes weather, smoke, reflections, rain, lightning, heat haze and skin lighting. The Full edition adds wider environmental and vehicle effects, including water behavior, ocean waves, water reflections, road spray, exhaust and tyre smoke, plus a weighted chase camera.

The installation is a file-placement mod rather than a separate launcher. AuraV loads from the GTA V directory, opens its own in-game menu, and applies changes while Story Mode is running. The most important installation decision is choosing the package for the exact GTA V build installed on your PC.

Choose the correct AuraV edition first

Enhanced and Legacy files are not interchangeable. If you have both game versions installed, identify the directory containing the executable you actually plan to launch before extracting anything. The detailed numbered installation below is for GTA V Enhanced; the Legacy/FiveM download includes edition-specific directions that should be followed instead.

AuraV Lite versus AuraV Full

Kypos distributes two feature levels. AuraV Lite is free and does not require an account. AuraV Full is an Early Access edition available to Patreon patrons. Both editions use the same general in-game configuration approach, but Full expands the effects beyond the core lighting and atmosphere work.

Choose Lite if you want to test AuraV’s main lighting, sky, weather and path-tracing changes without a paid-access requirement. Choose Full only if you specifically want its additional water and vehicle effects and have access to the Early Access download.

Requirements and preparation

Required for AuraV Enhanced

• Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced for PC.
• Windows 10 or Windows 11.
• An NVIDIA RTX graphics card for AuraV’s path-tracing features.
• Story Mode. AuraV is not for GTA Online.

The official AuraV pages do not state a minimum RTX model, a VRAM target or an expected frame rate. That means there is no supported universal hardware promise to apply to every PC. Plan to use the F10 menu as a live tuning tool and reduce effects if your frame rate or image smoothness is not acceptable.

Do you need an ASI loader?

AuraV’s normal Enhanced setup loads itself and does not require a separate ASI loader. If ScriptHookV is already installed, however, Kypos says ScriptHookV’s ASI loader must also remain in the GTA V directory because AuraV can delegate loading to it when ScriptHookV is present. Do not install unrelated loaders solely for AuraV unless another mod requires them.

Before extracting

• Close GTA V and any launcher window that is still using the game files.
• Confirm which edition you are installing: Enhanced, Legacy or FiveM.
• Download the matching AuraV archive from the official AuraV page. Lite is available without an account; Full downloads require the stated patron access.
• Have an archive utility available so you can view the files before copying them.

Install AuraV Enhanced step by step

1. Download the Enhanced archive. Obtain AuraV Lite or AuraV Full from the AuraV Enhanced download page. Do not use the Legacy archive for an Enhanced installation.
2. Open the GTA V Enhanced folder. In Steam, go to Library, right-click Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, choose Manage, then select Browse local files. The Rockstar Games Launcher and Epic Games Launcher provide equivalent commands for opening the installed game folder.
3. Open the downloaded AuraV archive. Select all of its contents. The archive may show several files and an AuraV folder; you need the contents, not an additional container directory.
4. Copy everything directly into the game directory. Put the files beside GTA5_Enhanced.exe. Do not create a new folder named AuraV around the extracted contents. Kypos’s installation direction is to put everything in the zip straight into the game folder next to the executable.
5. Check the layout before launching. Confirm that the files and folder appear at the expected levels, as shown below.
6. Start GTA V in Story Mode. Do not test AuraV by entering GTA Online.
7. Open the settings menu. Once Story Mode has loaded, press F10. AuraV’s settings should appear, and changes can be applied while you are playing.

Expected Enhanced file layout

A common mistake is ending up with a nested path such as GTA VAuraVAuraVAuraV.bank or placing AuraV.asi in a newly created parent folder. The loader and msdmo.dll must be at the same level as the Enhanced executable, while AuraV.bank belongs inside the single AuraV folder.

Install AuraV Legacy for GTA V Legacy or FiveM

AuraV Legacy is the edition intended for GTA V Legacy and FiveM. Download that package and use the instructions included with the Legacy download. Do not adapt the Enhanced file list by guesswork and do not merge Enhanced and Legacy files in one directory. The two editions target different game builds, so a package that is correct for Enhanced can fail to load in Legacy or FiveM even when the files appear to be in a plausible location.

If you maintain separate Enhanced and Legacy installations, keep each AuraV package with the game version it belongs to. Start the corresponding edition in its supported mode and use the package’s stated path rather than copying files between the installations.

Configure AuraV with the F10 menu

AuraV’s configuration is designed for live adjustment. After loading Story Mode, press F10 to open the settings. Change one visual option, look at the result in the same scene, and then keep or reduce it according to the balance between image quality and frame rate. Because the menu applies changes immediately, you do not need to quit and relaunch after every adjustment.

1. Load a representative Story Mode location with the weather and lighting conditions you normally play in.
2. Press F10 and change one setting at a time.
3. Watch both the visual result and the game’s responsiveness after each change.
4. Keep the setting if the improvement is worth its cost on your hardware; otherwise reduce it and test again.
5. Close the menu and move through several scenes, since a setting that looks acceptable in one location may be heavier in another.

AuraV saves its settings for the next session. There is no official “best” preset that fits every RTX card, display resolution or other installed visual mod, so a short live test is more reliable than copying a universal configuration.

What to tune first

• Lighting and path tracing: prioritize these when you want AuraV’s defining illumination changes, then reduce them if the frame-time cost is too high.
• Weather, rain, lightning and heat haze: test them during the conditions where you notice their effects most.
• Water and reflections: these are available in Full and can be evaluated near the coast, rivers and wet roads.
• Smoke and vehicle effects: Full users can check exhaust, tyre smoke and road spray during driving scenes.
• Chase camera: Full users should test the weighted camera while driving before deciding whether its motion feels comfortable.

Those categories describe AuraV’s documented effect areas; the official pages do not publish a fixed performance cost for each one. Use the live menu and your own hardware response rather than expecting a stated frame-rate target.

Updating AuraV without losing settings

AuraV checks for an update when the game starts and reports an available update in its menu. To update, download the newer archive and unzip it over the existing AuraV files in the same game directory. Kypos says existing settings are retained during this process.

1. Start the supported GTA V edition and check the AuraV menu for an update notice.
2. Exit the game completely.
3. Download the new archive for the same edition and access level.
4. Extract it over the old files in the game directory, keeping the same direct-beside-the-executable layout.
5. Launch Story Mode and press F10 to confirm that AuraV loads and your previous choices remain.

Do not use an Enhanced update archive on a Legacy/FiveM installation or vice versa. If an update appears to remove a file, compare the directory with the expected layout and check the new archive’s edition instructions.

Remove AuraV completely

To uninstall AuraV, delete AuraV.asi, msdmo.dll and the AuraV folder from the relevant GTA V directory. The folder also stores AuraV’s settings, so deleting it removes the saved configuration and resets AuraV’s choices if you reinstall later.

1. Exit GTA V and its launcher.
2. Open the game directory for the edition from which you are removing AuraV.
3. Delete AuraV.asi.
4. Delete msdmo.dll.
5. Delete the AuraV folder, including AuraV.bank.
6. Launch the game without AuraV to verify that the original files are being used.

If another mod uses one of these files independently, identify that dependency before deleting it. AuraV’s own removal instructions concern the files listed above.

Troubleshoot loading and menu problems

Systematic F10 failure check

1. Confirm the executable name. For Enhanced it must be GTA5_Enhanced.exe in the folder you edited.
2. Confirm the two root-level files: AuraV.asi and msdmo.dll.
3. Open the AuraV folder and confirm AuraV.bank is inside it.
4. Check that you launched Story Mode rather than GTA Online.
5. Read AuraV.log and inspect antivirus quarantine if the loader is reported missing.
6. If ScriptHookV is present, verify its ASI loader is still installed.

How AuraV relates to other GTA V mod frameworks

AuraV should not be confused with general-purpose scripting frameworks. RAGE Plugin Hook’s published requirements include a legal GTA V copy, supported Windows versions, .NET Framework 4.6.2 or higher and Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables. ScriptHookVDotNet lists GTA V, ScriptHookV and the ScriptHookVDotNet SDK as prerequisites, then places its .asi and .dll files in the GTA V directory with scripts in a scripts folder.

Those requirements apply when another installed mod needs the corresponding framework; they are not additional AuraV Enhanced prerequisites. AuraV’s own guide says its normal setup does not need a separate ASI loader. Install only the dependency required by the other mod you intend to run, and preserve ScriptHookV’s loader if ScriptHookV is already part of your setup.

Using AuraV with ReShade or RenoDX

Kypos states that AuraV works alongside ReShade and RenoDX. Those tools are not supported by Kypos, so if a visual problem appears only after adding one of them, isolate the tools by testing AuraV alone before seeking support. Keep the test in Story Mode and use the F10 menu to confirm AuraV itself is loading.

Important Story Mode and online-use boundary

AuraV is intended for Story Mode only, not GTA Online. Treat that as a usage boundary rather than a setting to toggle: install and test it in the supported single-player environment, and do not attempt to use the mod in GTA Online.
