Before installing an RTX 5070 Ti, confirm that your exact card fits the case, that your power supply can support the whole system, and that you have the correct GPU power cable. NVIDIA lists 750 W as the required system power for its reference design, but that is a starting point—not a universal rule. The card, PSU, CPU, and case models determine the right setup.
What power supply does an RTX 5070 Ti need?
NVIDIA’s current RTX 5070 family specifications give the RTX 5070 Ti a 300 W total graphics power rating and list 750 W required system power. NVIDIA bases that 750 W figure on a system with a Ryzen 9 9950X and notes that requirements vary with the system configuration. Its specifications describe the reference design; board-partner cards can differ. Check the recommendation for your exact card and consider the complete PC, not just the GPU’s power draw. ASUS’s recommended PSU table illustrates why one wattage cannot cover every build: its RTX 5070 Ti guidance ranges from 650 W to 850 W across CPU classes. These are ASUS recommendations for the systems in its table, not a universal rule for all RTX 5070 Ti cards or PCs. ASUS recommended PSU table
| CPU class in ASUS table | Recommended PSU for RTX 5070 Ti |
|---|---|
| Intel i5 / AMD Ryzen 5 | 650 W |
| Intel Core Ultra 5 / i7 / AMD Ryzen 7 | 750 W |
| Intel Core Ultra 7 / i9 / AMD Ryzen 9 | 850 W |
| Intel Core Ultra 9 / HEDT / AMD Threadripper | 850 W |
Before buying a PSU, check the GPU maker’s guidance for your exact board, the PSU maker’s capacity advice for your build, and whether the PSU supports the required GPU connector. NVIDIA recommends a PCIe CEM 5.1-compliant PSU for its reference specifications.

Which power connector and cable should you use?
For its RTX 5070 Ti reference design, NVIDIA lists either two PCIe 8-pin cables used with the included adapter or one PCIe Gen 5 cable rated for 300 W or greater. The connector arrangement can vary on partner cards, so do not assume every RTX 5070 Ti uses the reference layout. Follow the manual for your exact card and verify that the PSU provides the specified native cable or that the included adapter is appropriate.
If you are replacing a modular PSU, use the cables supplied with the new PSU or cables its maker explicitly confirms are compatible with that exact model. Do not casually reuse modular leads from the old unit: pinouts can differ between brands and even between PSU models. Keep the new PSU’s cables with its manual. ASUS guide to modular PSU cables
Check card and PSU fit before opening the PC
RTX 5070 Ti dimensions and connector layouts vary by manufacturer, so there is no single card length or thickness that applies to every model. Look up the exact card’s dimensions, slot thickness, power connector, and PSU recommendation, then compare them with your case and the case manual. Allow for the space needed around the power plug and cable as specified by the card and case makers; do not rely on a generic clearance measurement.

Check the replacement PSU’s form factor and mounting requirements against the case manual as well as its wattage and GPU cable support. You will also need the exact motherboard and PSU instructions for the power connections in your build. This guide gives a general workflow, not a compatibility check for a particular set of components.

1. Gather the manuals and confirm compatibility
- Identify the exact GPU, PSU, motherboard, CPU, and case models.
- Confirm the card’s dimensions, slot thickness, connector type, and required clearance against the case and component manuals.
- Compare the PSU recommendation for your exact GPU and full system with the new PSU’s capacity. Confirm the required native cable or adapter arrangement.
- Have a Phillips screwdriver available if your case or PSU mounting instructions call for one.
2. Shut down and disconnect power
Shut down the PC, switch off the PSU, unplug the AC power cord, and disconnect it from the computer before working. Follow the PSU and GPU manuals for their shutdown and disconnection instructions. Never open the PSU enclosure. NVIDIA’s installation guide also directs users to turn off the computer, disconnect the power cord, and remove the existing graphics card. 3. Replace the power supply, if needed
- Remove the case panel as directed by the case manual.
- Disconnect the old PSU’s component cables, then remove its mounting screws and take it out according to the case and PSU instructions.
- Fit and secure the replacement PSU as its manual directs. Case-specific mounting details vary; the PSU manual may call for a Phillips screwdriver.
- Connect the motherboard, CPU, storage, and GPU power leads required by your build. Use only cables supplied with or explicitly approved for the replacement PSU, and follow the PSU and motherboard manuals.

- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
4. Install the graphics card
- Remove the existing graphics card using the GPU guide and case instructions.
- Install and secure the RTX 5070 Ti as directed by its manual and the motherboard manual.
- Connect the exact power arrangement specified for that card. If using an included adapter, connect all required inputs; NVIDIA’s reference adapter option lists two PCIe 8-pin cables, but partner-card arrangements can differ.
5. Check connections and cable routing
Before closing the case, verify that the connectors and retainers are seated as their manuals specify, that no cable obstructs a fan, and that cables do not appear strained or interfere with the case. Connector seating and cable clearance instructions are model-specific; use the exact GPU and PSU guidance rather than a universal bend-distance rule.
6. Start the PC
Close the case as instructed, connect the display to the graphics card, reconnect AC power, and start the computer. If it does not boot or displays a power-connector warning, shut it down and consult the specific card and PSU troubleshooting instructions. Do not repeatedly reseat connectors while the system is powered.
Quick Recap
If the new PC does not start
- No boot or power: Shut down and unplug the system before checking connections. Consult the motherboard and PSU manuals for the relevant power leads.
- GPU power warning: Power down, then verify the connector type and cable arrangement against the exact card and PSU manuals. Do not substitute an old modular cable unless the PSU maker confirms compatibility with the new unit.
- Card does not fit: Do not force it into place. Recheck the exact card dimensions, slot thickness, case clearance, and mounting instructions.
