How do I install The Witcher 3 hotfix?
Use the update mechanism for the platform where you play. On PC, the route also depends on whether your copy is digital or physical. Console players should use the console’s built-in game update process rather than a PC patch file.

PC digital copies: update through the launcher
For digital copies bought through GOG, Steam, or Epic, CD PROJEKT RED directs players to the platform’s built-in update feature. Open the launcher you use, select The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and use its normal update option if an update is available. The publisher’s manual Patch 1.01 instructions concern a physical copy; CD PROJEKT RED cautions that the file may not work with digital editions from those stores. It is not a general installer for current hotfixes.

If you have a physical PC copy, follow the publisher’s instructions for the exact patch you need. The cited manual route is specifically for Patch 1.01, so do not assume it applies to a different hotfix.

Consoles: use the system’s update mechanism
On Nintendo Switch, Xbox, or PlayStation, let the console’s built-in game update process install the update. The available instructions here do not establish one universal console menu path, so consult the system’s update history and the publisher notice for your platform and hotfix.
For Xbox Series X|S, CD PROJEKT RED says Patch 4.0 is required for dedicated next-gen features and notes that automatic downloads can be enabled in the console settings. That feature-specific guidance does not establish the newest Xbox build today. A separate publisher notice says Patch 5.0 is live, but it likewise is not a cross-platform version statement: Xbox Patch 5.0 notice.

How do I check which version of The Witcher 3 is running?
Check the game’s displayed version and compare it with the official notice for the same platform, edition, and hotfix. Do not assume a version number mentioned in one platform’s support page applies to another platform. In particular, the cited Xbox Patch 4.0 and Patch 5.0 notices describe different support topics and do not establish one current version for every copy.

These checks address file integrity, not which version is running. CD PROJEKT RED’s PC file verification instructions list the launcher-specific options.

For the particular Nintendo Switch hotfix described in CD PROJEKT RED’s Switch hotfix notice, the displayed game version does not change. The publisher says to check the date of the last update if you are unsure whether that hotfix applied. This date check is specific to that notice, not a universal rule for every Switch update.
That notice covers a hotfix for missing ambient audio for some players and an incorrectly applied regional restriction on the Korean version. If those are not the issues or notice you mean, use the verification details in the exact hotfix announcement instead.

- Confirm the target. Note whether you play on PC, Switch, Xbox, or PlayStation, and whether your PC copy is digital or physical.
