Start with the installation manual for the exact mirror TV. If it prohibits bathroom use or the spot you have in mind, do not install it there: the Electric Mirror Loft instructions, for example, prohibit wet locations such as shower or tub areas and places where water can easily spray onto the unit. A GFCI, an IP rating on another product, or a bathroom mirror’s appearance does not override a model’s restrictions.
1. Check whether your exact mirror TV is allowed in the intended location
Find the current manual for the model you plan to install before buying, choosing a position, or drilling. Check its bathroom-use limits, power arrangement, mounting requirements, and any stated ingress-protection (IP) rating. Confirm what any rating covers, including whether it applies to the display, a separate power supply, or both.

The Electric Mirror Mirror-TV Loft Installation Instructions state: “DO NOT install in a wet location such as a shower, tub area or where water can easily spray on the unit.” That is guidance for the model covered by those instructions—not a universal ruling for every mirror TV. If your manual does not clearly permit your intended bathroom location, ask the manufacturer or a qualified local electrician before proceeding.

2. Have the location checked under your local electrical rules
Bathroom electrical requirements depend on jurisdiction and the particular product and location. There is no single bathroom-zone diagram or rule that applies everywhere. Ask a qualified electrician to assess the model, its intended position, the supply and circuit, and applicable local requirements—especially if the installation involves fixed wiring.
- In the UK, Crosswater’s bathroom electrical zones guidance discusses zones and IP ratings and points readers to current IET Wiring Regulations or a qualified electrician.
- For Germany, ad notam’s guidance refers to German DIN VDE requirements and notes that wet-room rules differ by region.
These are examples for their respective contexts, not substitute rules for other countries. In the US, UK, and elsewhere, follow the applicable local requirements rather than borrowing another jurisdiction’s zone, RCD, or GFCI guidance.

3. Plan the mounting before you drill
Follow the exact model’s mounting instructions. The Electric Mirror manual says, “Use only the wall attachments provided by the manufacturer.” Check the product’s weight, the wall construction, and the specified mounting method in your model’s current instructions. The available manual does not establish a universal anchor type, stud spacing, or mounting height, so do not guess or substitute generic fixings without confirming they are suitable for both the product and the wall.
4. Follow the product’s electrical instructions
For the Electric Mirror model covered by the cited manual, bathroom receptacles or receptacles near water must have GFCI protection. Its instructions state: “Electrical receptacles in a bathroom or near water must be on a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter).” This requirement does not make an installation safe if the manual prohibits the location, and it should not be treated as universal guidance for products or jurisdictions with different rules.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission advises testing GFCIs after installation, at least monthly, after a power failure, and according to the GFCI manufacturer’s instructions. See the CPSC GFCI Fact Sheet for its testing guidance. Keep this distinct from UK RCD requirements and rules elsewhere; ask a local electrician if you are unsure what protection applies to your installation.

Do not improvise with an extension, a generic television, unapproved fixings, or another product’s rating to make an uncertain installation work. Pause and contact the mirror TV manufacturer or a qualified local electrician if the manual is missing, the intended location is not clearly permitted, the wall or fixings are uncertain, or the electrical connection is unclear. The safe answer depends on the exact unit and the rules where it will be installed.
