Install a 15-litre storage geyser only after confirming the exact model’s mounting orientation, dimensions, pressure rating, connection positions and electrical requirements. The safe sequence is: anchor the heater to a wall that can carry its full water-filled weight, fit the supplied pressure-relief valve to the cold inlet, connect the hot and cold lines without obstructing discharge, provide code-compliant earthed electrical protection, fill and purge the tank completely, check for leaks, and only then switch on power. A qualified plumber or electrician should do the work whenever structural anchoring, pressurised plumbing or mains wiring is outside your competence.
Why “15 litres” is not enough information
Capacity identifies the approximate tank volume, not the installation method. Two 15-litre heaters can differ in whether they mount vertically or horizontally, their dimensions and service clearances, allowable water pressure, inlet and outlet thread size, heating load, safety devices and warranty conditions. Read the manual and nameplate for the exact model before drilling or buying cable, breakers or fittings.

Use the figures in this table as model-specific examples, not universal specifications. Orient Electric’s 15-litre range also distinguishes mounting type, dimensions, water connections, pressure rating, electrical load, safety features, tank and element construction, warranty and installation instructions. Those are the fields you must verify for your own unit.

A storage geyser combines a heavy, pressurised vessel with mains electricity. Stop and call a qualified installer if you cannot positively identify a load-bearing wall, calculate and install a compliant circuit, test protective devices, or make leak-free threaded joints. Do not improvise with household extension boards, undersized cable, ungrounded outlets, unsupported brackets or a capped relief pipe.

Where local regulations require licensed work, follow them even if the physical installation appears simple.
Prepare the site, model and materials
Confirm orientation, dimensions and access
Check whether the heater is designed for vertical, horizontal or either orientation. Measure the appliance and leave the service clearance specified by its manual. Midea’s installation instructions require at least 0.2 m of clearance on the right side for maintenance; another model may require a different space. Keep the thermostat, electrical cover, inlet valve and relief-valve discharge reachable for inspection. Do not place the unit where a small leak can reach an unprotected socket, switchboard or electronics.
Check water pressure and connection positions
Read the rated or working pressure and compare it with the building’s supply. The pressure rating is a limit, not a target. If the supply can exceed the rating, use the pressure-control equipment required by local plumbing practice and the manual. Identify the blue-marked cold inlet and the hot outlet on the actual heater; never rely on a generic diagram because their positions vary. Confirm whether the unit uses 1/2-inch threads or another size before purchasing adapters.
Gather specified components
- The supplied wall bracket, anchors and fasteners, or fasteners approved for the wall material and load.
- The supplied multifunction or pressure-relief valve for the cold-water inlet.
- Approved sealing gaskets or thread-sealing material recommended by the manual.
- Correctly sized isolation valves and pipework for the inlet and outlet.
- A dedicated, earthed electrical supply with the protective devices required by the model and local code.
- Basic tools for drilling, levelling, tightening and leak inspection, plus a container or drain route for relief discharge.
Do not substitute a standard shut-off valve for the supplied multifunction valve. Do not apply sealant in a way that can enter and jam the relief mechanism.
Step-by-step installation
1. Mark the mounting position
Hold the bracket against a structurally sound wall at the height shown in the manual. Check that the heater will be level, that pipe runs will not be kinked, and that the service side remains accessible. Mark every fixing hole and verify that drilling will not hit concealed electrical cables or water pipes.
2. Install a load-bearing bracket
Use the supplied bracket where required and choose anchors for the actual wall—masonry, concrete, timber framing and hollow partitions need different fixing methods. One CG manual requires the wall to support more than twice the heater’s filled weight. Midea warns not to hang the heater until the support is firm and reliable. Treat those instructions as a minimum: if the wall is cracked, damp, friable or uncertain, reinforce it or relocate the heater.

After fixing, pull and load-test the bracket by hand before lifting the appliance. The bracket must not flex, rotate or pull away. Get assistance to lift the tank; do not hold it by pipe stubs, the electrical cover or the pressure valve.
3. Hang and level the heater
Seat the tank fully on the bracket and verify that every retaining feature engages. Check level in the orientation specified by the manufacturer. A heater designed for vertical installation must not be laid on its side, and a horizontal model must not be rotated to make the pipes fit. Incorrect orientation can leave the element or thermostat improperly immersed and may defeat safety controls.
4. Fit the cold-water safety valve
Locate the cold inlet, normally marked blue. Screw the supplied multifunction or pressure-release valve directly onto that inlet in the direction shown by the arrow. Use the supplied gasket or an approved seal on the correct threaded joint. Keep the valve accessible for inspection.
Route the valve’s discharge outlet downward to a safe, visible drain point. The discharge pipe must not be capped, plugged, reduced in a way that restricts flow, routed uphill into a trap that can hold pressure, or terminated where escaping hot water can burn someone. A relief valve may drip while heating; that can be normal, but continuous heavy discharge requires investigation rather than obstruction.
5. Connect the cold and hot pipes
Connect the incoming cold line to the safety valve and the hot-water line to the outlet marked red. Install isolation valves where the manual or local code calls for them, while ensuring the relief valve remains connected directly to the vessel’s cold inlet. Support pipework independently so its weight and movement do not load the tank connections.

6. Install the electrical supply
Read the nameplate voltage and rated power. The published 2,000 W, 230 V examples draw about 8.7 A at their rated conditions (2,000 ÷ 230), but that calculation does not select a breaker or cable by itself. Cable size, breaker rating, switch type, installation method, ambient temperature, circuit length and local code all affect the correct design. Have a licensed electrician select and test the circuit.
The Electrolux wiring diagram supplied for a storage heater shows the protective arrangement typically expected by such equipment: an ELCB/RCD, fuse or MCB, a double-pole ON/OFF switch and an earth conductor. Use the devices specified by your model and jurisdiction. An ELCB/RCD provides residual-current protection; it does not replace overcurrent protection, a proper earth or the manufacturer’s thermal cut-off.
- Use a dedicated, permanently wired supply where the manual requires it.
- Connect the protective earth to the heater’s earth terminal and verify continuity.
- Keep the switch and protective devices outside areas where they can be splashed.
- Never power the heater through an extension lead, multi-plug adaptor or extension board; the CG manual expressly prohibits extension boards.
- Do not energise until the tank is full and all covers, glands and terminals are secure.
7. Fill and purge the tank before applying power
- Leave the electrical isolator switched off.
- Open a hot-water outlet or tap connected to the heater.
- Open the cold-water isolation valve slowly and allow the tank to fill.
- Watch the open hot outlet. Air will escape first; wait for a steady, air-free stream of water.
- Midea’s instruction is explicit: when water flows from the outlet pipe, the heater is full and the outlet valve can be closed.
- Inspect the tank, valve, unions and every threaded joint for seepage. Dry the joints, wait, and inspect again so a slow leak is not mistaken for condensation.
Never switch on an empty or partly filled tank. An exposed heating element can overheat rapidly, trip the thermal cut-off or fail permanently.
8. Commission and document the installation
Only after filling and leak inspection should the electrician close the circuit and switch on the heater. Confirm that the power indicator and thermostat behave as described in the manual. Test the RCD/ELCB using its test button if the installed device and local procedure permit it. Verify that the relief discharge route is open and terminates safely. Record the model, installation date, installer details and any pressure-control settings, then leave the manual and warranty documents with the owner.
Understanding breakers, cable and RCD protection
Readers often ask for one universal breaker and wire size for a 15-litre heater. There is no safe universal answer. “15 litres” describes storage capacity, while electrical demand is set mainly by the element’s wattage and supply voltage. The examples above are 2 kW at 230 V, but another 15-litre product may use a different element or regional supply.
Provide the electrician with the nameplate and manual. The electrician should calculate design current, select a cable with adequate current capacity and voltage-drop performance, choose compatible overcurrent protection, and install a double-pole isolator where required. The circuit must include reliable earthing and any RCD/ELCB protection mandated by the product or local code. If the heater has an integrated ELCB facility, that feature still needs correct upstream wiring and testing.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
An RCD/ELCB is particularly important around bathrooms and other wet locations, but its presence does not make unsafe plumbing acceptable. It will not prevent a pressure vessel from discharging hot water, and it cannot compensate for a missing earth conductor or damaged insulation.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsVertical versus horizontal installation
Choose the model that fits the room rather than trying to force an orientation. Compare the following before purchase or installation:
| Decision point | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Mounting direction | Vertical, horizontal or approved alternatives in the manual | Incorrect orientation can impair immersion, controls and safety operation. |
| Dimensions and clearance | Overall height, width, depth and service-side gap | The tank must fit without blocking inspection or valve maintenance. |
| Pressure | Rated or working pressure and building-supply pressure | Overpressure can trigger discharge or damage components. |
| Pipe connections | Inlet/outlet location and thread size, such as 1/2 inch on the Jaquar Meta vertical example | Correct parts prevent stressed adapters and leaks. |
| Electrical load | Nameplate watts, voltage, frequency and required protective devices | The circuit must be designed for the actual appliance, not capacity alone. |
| Water quality and warranty | Tank and element materials, corrosion provisions, warranty terms and whether installation is included | Hard or aggressive water can affect service life and warranty obligations. |
First-use checks and normal observations
After the first heating cycle, inspect the joints again. Thermal expansion can reveal a marginal connection that remained dry during cold filling. A small amount of water from the relief outlet while heating may occur as pressure rises; follow the manual’s guidance. Persistent discharge, a pressure valve that will not reset, unusual noise, a burning smell, repeated breaker or RCD trips, or water near electrical parts requires immediate isolation of power and a qualified inspection.
The Midea D15-20FY1 specification lists a maximum water temperature of 75 °C. Actual outlet temperature depends on thermostat setting, incoming-water temperature and operating conditions. Do not assume that every 15-litre heater reaches the same temperature or heats in the same time; no universal heating-time figure applies.

No water flows from the hot tap
- Confirm the cold isolation valve is open and the tank was filled through a hot outlet.
- Check that the hot outlet is not blocked by a closed valve or kinked pipe.
- If the tank was never filled, keep power off and repeat the filling procedure.
Water leaks at a threaded joint
- Switch off power if water could reach electrical components.
- Close the relevant isolation valves and depressurise safely.
- Check the gasket, thread type and alignment; replace damaged seals rather than simply adding more tape.
- Do not tighten the relief valve by force or block its discharge.
The breaker or RCD trips
- Leave the heater isolated; do not repeatedly reset the device.
- Have an electrician test insulation, earth continuity, polarity, protective-device compatibility and moisture ingress.
- Do not substitute a larger breaker to stop nuisance trips. That can remove protection from the cable.
The relief valve discharges continuously
- Check incoming pressure against the heater’s rating and confirm any pressure-control device is correctly adjusted.
- Ensure the discharge pipe is open and not submerged or capped.
- Have the valve and thermostat checked if discharge continues after pressure conditions are corrected.
The tank or bracket moves
Turn off the water supply and keep people clear. Do not attempt to re-anchor a full tank. Drain it using a safe, controlled procedure and have the wall, anchors and bracket assessed before reuse.

Maintenance that preserves safety
- Inspect the relief valve, discharge route, visible joints and bracket periodically at the interval specified by the manual.
- Operate the relief-valve test mechanism only as the manufacturer instructs; discharge water can be very hot.
- Keep the service clearance free so technicians can reach the thermostat, element and electrical cover.
- Arrange inspection or descaling when local water quality, sediment or manufacturer guidance warrants it.
- After any plumbing or electrical alteration, refill and purge the tank before restoring power.
Do not open the electrical cover, remove the thermostat or replace the heating element while the circuit is live. Isolate power, verify it is dead and use a qualified technician for internal work.

When professional installation is the safest choice
Use a licensed plumber and electrician when the wall needs reinforcement, the supply is high-pressure, the installation is in a bathroom or other regulated wet area, the circuit needs new wiring, or the model’s instructions conflict with existing plumbing. Professional installation is also appropriate if the manual is missing, the nameplate is unreadable, the bracket or relief valve is not supplied, or you are unsure how to test earthing and residual-current protection. The correct outcome is not merely a heater that produces hot water; it is a securely supported, leak-free and electrically protected pressure appliance that can be serviced safely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install a 15-litre storage geyser myself?
Only if you are competent and legally permitted to perform the structural, plumbing and electrical work. Because the job combines a heavy pressurised tank with mains electricity, use qualified tradespeople whenever any part of the installation or testing is uncertain.
What breaker and wire size does a 15-litre geyser need?
There is no universal size. Use the exact nameplate load, supply voltage, cable route, circuit length, installation method and local electrical code. A 2,000 W, 230 V example draws about 8.7 A, but an electrician must select the cable and protective devices.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Why must the tank be full before switching it on?
Water covers and cools the heating element. Energising an empty or partly filled tank can overheat the element, trip its thermal protection or cause permanent damage.
Is an RCD or ELCB required?
Use the residual-current protection specified by the model and required by local code. Some manuals show an ELCB/RCD with an MCB or fuse, double-pole switch and earth conductor. An RCD does not replace correct earthing or overcurrent protection.
Can I cap the pressure-relief discharge pipe?
No. The discharge route must remain unobstructed and end at a safe drain point. Capping or restricting it can prevent pressure from being relieved safely.
