You can often get more time between charges without turning off the features you rely on. Start at Settings > Battery to find what is using power, then make targeted changes such as lowering screen brightness or using Auto-Lock. Keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on for normal use; Apple says they draw minimal power when not connected. If the battery itself has degraded, settings cannot restore its lost capacity.
Find what is using your battery first
Open Settings > Battery and review the daily battery-usage chart and app activity. This helps distinguish an app that is unusually active from ordinary use. Check any Battery Insights as well: Apple says they can flag temporary activity, such as an iOS update or device setup, that may affect battery life for a while. If a particular app stands out, consider whether its activity is expected before changing its background behavior or permissions.

Make low-disruption display adjustments
Lower brightness when practical
A brighter display uses more energy. Reduce brightness to a comfortable level when conditions allow; there is no universal setting that suits every room or outdoor situation.

Use Auto-Lock
Set Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock to a suitable interval so the screen turns off when you are not using it. The precise available options can vary by device and software.

Keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on when you use them
Turning off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is not a useful default battery-saving rule. Apple says both are designed to use minimal power when they are not connected to a network or accessory, and recommends keeping them on for the best experience. Leave them available for the connections you rely on rather than routinely disabling them.
Choose between Adaptive Power and Low Power Mode
These modes serve different needs: Adaptive Power can make limited adjustments automatically on supported iPhones, while Low Power Mode is a user-selected option with more clearly documented feature changes.

What Low Power Mode changes
Low Power Mode can reduce brightness, set Auto-Lock to 30 seconds, turn off some visual effects, temporarily pause iCloud Photos, disable automatic downloads and email fetch, and turn off Background App Refresh. On ProMotion iPhones, it limits the refresh rate to 60 frames per second. Use it when you want extra runtime and accept those changes; it is an option, not a requirement to disable every important feature. It turns off automatically after the iPhone charges to 80 percent or higher.

Check whether battery health is the limiting factor
Battery life means how long the iPhone runs before it needs recharging; battery lifespan means how long the battery lasts before it needs replacement. Lithium-ion batteries lose capacity as they chemically age, so a setting change cannot recover capacity already lost.

Check Settings > Battery > Battery Health. On some older iPhones, the section is called Battery Health & Charging. If the screen reports Service, consider battery replacement and follow the guidance shown on the device.

Optimized Battery Charging is intended to reduce battery wear over time, not increase the charge available today. It learns your routine, may pause charging near 80 percent, and finishes closer to when it expects you will unplug the iPhone. It may not activate if your routine is inconsistent or you are in a new location. If you need a full charge sooner, you can temporarily choose Resume Charging.

Heat can permanently reduce battery lifespan. Apple identifies 62° to 72° F (16° to 22° C) as the ideal ambient range and cautions against temperatures above 95° F (35° C). Avoid prolonged charging or use in hot conditions, including direct sunlight. Cold can temporarily reduce runtime; performance can recover when the battery returns to its normal temperature range.
Set realistic expectations
Apple’s guidance does not quantify how many minutes or hours these adjustments will add. The result depends on what is draining your particular iPhone, how you use it, its software, and the battery’s condition. Use the Battery screen to assess changes rather than relying on a promised percentage gain.
