If the device will not charge at all, follow the separate charging checks below. Settings and menu names vary by model, and Google’s published runtimes are estimates rather than guarantees.
Which Fitbit settings can improve battery life?
Google recommends reducing use of power-hungry features. Depending on your model, try these display changes:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Turn off Always-on display.
- Lower screen brightness, or enable auto brightness if your device offers it.
- Choose a shorter screen timeout.
- Switch from an animated clock face to a simpler one; animated faces may mean charging more often.
These options are not available on every Fitbit, and menu paths differ across models. Check your device’s settings for the equivalent controls rather than assuming every Fitbit has the same menus. Google’s guidance is available in Extend your Fitbit device’s battery life.
How much battery do Fitbit features use?
Google’s figures below are model-specific estimates. They are not a controlled comparison of every person’s use, and actual runtime varies with settings and usage. Google’s guidance puts it plainly: “Because battery life is affected by use and other settings, actual results may vary.”

| Luxe, Sense, and Versa 3 | Up to 5 days. | Up to 2 days. | Up to 12 hours. |
Google’s current support guidance does not state a publication year for the Charge, Sense, Versa, or Luxe estimates. The Fitbit Air maximum is based on 2025 testing, not a guarantee for every owner. See Google’s battery-life estimates and guidance for the qualifications and available model details.
Choose the right GPS option for workouts
Built-in GPS can reduce battery life, especially during long workouts. On supported Fitbit models, phone GPS can help preserve the device’s battery, but the available GPS modes and controls vary. Check your model’s GPS settings and use phone GPS only if it is supported and practical for your workout. Google describes Phone GPS for the Charge 4 this way: “This option can help preserve battery life on your Fitbit device or Pixel Watch.” That is model-specific guidance, not a promise that every Fitbit has the option. See Google’s Fitbit and Pixel Watch GPS guidance.

Reduce screen activations during quiet periods
Sleep mode dims the screen, prevents wrist movement from waking it, and suppresses notifications from vibrating or turning on the screen. Do Not Disturb can also stop specified alerts from causing vibration or screen activation. These modes may reduce interruptions and screen activations, but Google’s navigation guidance does not quantify how much battery they save. Availability and controls depend on your device. Ace LTE: use its model-specific power controls
Fitbit Ace LTE has separate battery-saving guidance. Its available options include Battery Saver, turning off the always-on screen and tilt-to-wake, and choosing a shorter screen timeout. Runtime depends on usage, network coverage, and signal strength. Follow the Ace LTE power-saving instructions; do not assume these controls exist on other Fitbit models.

Is the battery draining fast, or will the Fitbit not charge?
These symptoms need different checks. If the tracker or watch charges normally but dies unusually quickly, begin with display and GPS settings. Google’s charging guidance lists a watch battery dying in less than a day and recommends turning off Always-on display. If the device does not take a charge, check the contacts, cable, power source, and model-specific restart procedure instead.
If the Fitbit will not charge
- Inspect the charging contacts on the device and the pins on the cable. Clean the device contacts gently and the charger pins carefully, following the precautions for your model. Do not insert metal objects or scrape the contacts.
- Check the cable and connection. If a cable pin is stuck and does not spring back, Google says the cable likely needs replacement; use a cable compatible with your exact model.
- Connect the device to an appropriate wall outlet and leave it charging for an hour if the battery may be fully depleted. A black screen can persist for several minutes after connecting a completely depleted device.
- If it still does not charge, restart it using the procedure for your exact model. Google’s guide describes a three-press charger-button method for listed trackers and a ten-second side-button hold while connected to the charger for Sense and Versa watches. Confirm which procedure applies before trying it; restarting does not delete fitness data.

Could the battery be aging?
Google says a Fitbit may need charging more often after several hundred charge cycles. Its guidance does not establish a universal battery lifespan, battery-health percentage, replacement threshold, or user-replaceable battery procedure. If severe drain continues after settings changes and charging checks, contact current Fitbit support for model-specific help rather than assuming a particular repair is appropriate.
